Chapter 117: Chapter 117: Second Uncle, You Know?
Selena Sheridan said nothing. Elliot Sheridan stubbed out his cigarette in the ashtray. "Because Justin Sullivan likes Georgia Thorne?"
"Uncle, you know?" Selena Sheridan raised her delicate eyebrows in surprise.
"So, for Justin Sullivan’s sake, you’re going to destroy a friendship you’ve had for years? You want to fight to the bitter end and make him choose between the two of you? Selena Sheridan, have you lost your mind!"
"..."
Selena Sheridan pouted, feeling her uncle was being a bit too harsh. She had never once thought of it that way.
It was just that, in that moment, she felt betrayed by the two people she trusted most. She instantly felt like there was no one left in the world she could trust or rely on.
Elliot Sheridan lit another cigarette, and the hospital room grew thick with smoke.
After a long moment, it finally dawned on Selena, who was still smarting from the scolding: ’Why is Uncle defending Georgia Thorne?’
Selena Sheridan didn’t dwell on it. She sat on the bed, and before long, a doctor came in for an examination.
"Your friend, or the man—it’s your call. But let me give you a piece of advice: Justin Sullivan is never going to come around and fall for you, but Georgia Thorne has always considered you her best friend!"
Selena Sheridan said nothing, but she took Elliot Sheridan’s words to heart.
Elliot Sheridan had business to attend to in the afternoon, so he left.
The doctor examined Selena and asked in a gentle voice, "Is your head still ringing?"
’Justin Sullivan was abroad for six years... When did he meet Georgia Thorne?’
’How long has he liked her?’
’And why did Georgia never once mention Justin Sullivan to me?’
"My head hurts!" Selena Sheridan said irritably. The doctor explained, "That’s normal. You have a mild concussion. You’ll be fine after a few days of rest."
’It wasn’t a headache from the accident’s aftereffects. It was a headache caused by Georgia and Justin.’
In the afternoon, right on cue, Georgia Thorne grabbed her bag and quickly left the office.
Her female colleagues just assumed she was in a hurry to see her boyfriend.
The news about her and Justin Sullivan standing together at the company entrance yesterday had already spread like wildfire.
The man this time wasn’t Zane Lennox, but someone else.
He was the hot new tycoon, Justin Sullivan, the future heir to the Sullivan Family.
His status was comparable to Zane Lennox’s!
No one could figure it out. Had both of these great men been cursed? Why had they both fallen for the same woman?
Georgia Thorne hailed a cab straight for the hospital. She had asked Elliot Sheridan for the room number when she’d called him during the day.
She had the driver stop at a flower shop near the hospital, where she bought a bouquet of lilies before hurrying on her way.
Selena Sheridan was alone in the hospital room. Her phone had been destroyed in the accident, so with no electronics, she could only watch TV out of boredom.
She flipped through channel after channel but couldn’t get into anything. Her mood grew increasingly irritable as she kept checking the time.
’By now, Georgia should be off work!’
And speak of the devil...
After asking a nurse for directions, Georgia Thorne found Selena Sheridan’s room.
Selena was staying in a private VIP room that had everything.
Georgia knocked on the door apprehensively and heard a hoarse voice from inside. "Come in!"
The door was pushed open gently. Georgia stood at the entrance, holding the bouquet. "Selena, it’s me."
Selena’s gaze was fixed on the TV, her hand tightening its grip on the remote. "Come in," she said coolly.
Selena had spent the afternoon reasoning with herself. It wasn’t Georgia’s fault that Justin Sullivan liked her.
’If anyone was to blame, it was me, for not meeting Justin Sullivan before Georgia did.’
’If I had met him earlier, I’m confident I could have made him fall head over heels for me.’
"Selena, are you feeling any better?" Georgia placed the flowers on the nightstand and pulled a chair over to sit by the bed.
"I’ll live."
Selena Sheridan’s tone was frigid, and Georgia didn’t know what to say next.
They had been the closest of friends, able to share anything and everything. Now, because of a man, their relationship was instantly strained.
Georgia’s voice was hoarse as she tried to explain.
"Selena, the thing with me and Justin Sullivan is..."
"I’m thirsty. Can you get me a glass of water?"
Selena Sheridan cut her off sharply just as she was about to speak. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
The words caught in Georgia’s throat, and she had no choice but to swallow them back down. "Okay."
There was no hot water in the room, so Georgia took the thermos and went out to the dispenser.
The phone in her pocket rang. It was a call from Elliot Sheridan.
His rich, magnetic voice came through the line. "Still at the hospital?"
Georgia hummed in agreement. She was holding the thermos and waiting in line. It was noisy around her.
"What are you doing?"
"Getting water," Georgia replied. She picked up the filled thermos and turned to walk back.
Georgia heard a woman’s voice on his end. "What about you? I can hear a woman’s voice over there!"
It wasn’t that Georgia had sharp ears; the voice of the woman calling for Elliot was just too loud to miss.
"What, jealous?" he chuckled. Georgia puffed out her cheeks. "Of course not!"
"No? Wait till I get back. I’ll feel your heart and see if you’re telling the truth!" His suggestive tone and wicked voice immediately made Georgia blush.
She muttered softly, ’You old pervert!’
Elliot Sheridan heard her clearly. "If I’m an old pervert, what does that make you? A little tyrant?"
"You’re the worst! I don’t want to talk to you anymore!" Georgia clutched her phone, her cheeks adorably red.
Hearing the woman’s voice on his end grow louder, Elliot’s voice became guarded. "Be good. Don’t leave. Wait for me at the hospital."
"We’ll go to dinner together."
Georgia hummed affirmatively and asked, "What time will you get here?" freewёbnoνel.com
Elliot watched Joanne Donovan walk steadily toward him and glanced indifferently at his watch. "Give me half an hour."
"Okay!"
Georgia told him to be careful and then hung up.
She put the phone in her pocket and looked up, her eyes meeting those of Selena Sheridan, who was standing in the doorway.
Her heart skipped a beat, and she couldn’t help but feel a pang of guilt. ’Did Selena hear my call with Elliot?’
"I was starting to think you went to get water and disappeared," Selena said, her tone sharp. She gave Georgia a strange look, then turned and went back into the room.
The bashful blush that had appeared on Georgia’s fair face while she was on the phone was like a thorn in Selena’s heart.
’Is she already dating Justin Sullivan?’
"Selena, here’s your water."
In a brightly lit hotel corridor, a tall man stood before a window. His expensive, black, handmade suit accentuated his height and powerful aura.
Smoke curled from his fingertips. A breeze blew past, scattering the ash. His lips pursed as he watched Joanne Donovan with an impassive gaze.
Joanne Donovan, dressed in an extremely elegant aqua-blue gown, swayed her hips as she walked toward him.
"I’ve been looking for you for ages. So this is where you were." Joanne’s voice was soft and seductive. She toyed with her curls. Her dress was backless.
’She had loved the man before her for nearly fifteen years, ever since she was young and naive. If not for a certain incident, they would have been married long ago.’
’Knowing him, they might have even had two children by now.’
Elliot Sheridan exhaled a puff of smoke, his handsome face tense. "Joanne, don’t think you can force me to marry you just because you’re holding on to what happened back then. Remember this: pushing me too far will do you no good!"
"Elliot, don’t be like this. I really do love you!" Joanne Donovan took a step forward, her fair, slender arm reaching for his.
Elliot subtly sidestepped her. He had always disliked physical contact with women; he hated getting their nauseating perfume on him.
’In contrast, Georgia’s scent was far more pleasant—a light, faint feminine fragrance that always left him helplessly captivated.’
Joanne Donovan bit her lip, reluctantly pulling her hands back to hug her arms. "Elliot, Grandma really wants us to be together."
