Chapter 116: Chapter 116: Her Second Uncle Definitely Has a Woman

Elliot Sheridan was never a picky eater. Georgia Thorne knew this from personal experience.

When Elliot woke up, Georgia wasn’t there. He felt a pang of disappointment, as if something was missing.

He found himself missing the recent holiday, when the first person he saw upon waking was always her.

After he washed up and came out, the hourly cleaning lady told him that Georgia had already left for work at seven.

He glanced at the wall clock. It was already nine. She had been gone for two full hours.

Elliot sat down at the table and started on his breakfast.

About fifteen minutes later, Owen Sawyer arrived.

"President Sheridan, we’ve found Miss Sheridan!"

"Where is she?"

"The hospital."

Elliot frowned, dropped his chopsticks, and grabbed his suit jacket from the sofa before heading out.

As Owen drove, he recounted the full story to Elliot.

After leaving Justin Sullivan’s apartment yesterday, Selena Sheridan had gone to a bar to drown her sorrows.

She had driven drunk, crashing straight into a guardrail on the highway.

Half the car was left dangling over the edge. The airbags deployed, and Selena had been knocked unconscious by the violent impact.

She was subsequently rushed to the hospital by ambulance and had only woken up this morning.

Selena knew she had done something wrong. She didn’t dare call her parents, nor did she dare call James Sheridan or Sharon Ennis. The only person she could think of was Elliot.

She didn’t even dare to call Elliot’s personal phone directly, resorting to calling his secretary, Owen Sawyer, instead.

Elliot kept his eyes closed the entire time, his expression unreadable.

When Elliot arrived at the door of the hospital room, the police were taking Selena’s statement.

Selena was timid by nature. It was the first time in her life she’d been questioned by the police, and she confessed everything.

She’d been heartbroken, so she went drinking, got behind the wheel, became overwrought, lost control, and hit the guardrail.

The police revoked Selena’s driver’s license and ordered her to pay for the damages to the guardrail.

Only after Selena signed the paperwork did the police leave.

Elliot stood at the doorway. The officers recognized him and greeted him respectfully.

Elliot said nothing, his icy gaze fixed on Selena.

"Second Uncle!"

Selena was, at the end of the day, terrified. She had just woken up after a car crash, a bandage was taped to her forehead, and her body was covered in bruises.

Elliot moved a chair to the bedside and sat down, his aura severe. "What are you planning to do next!"

"Huh?"

"Are you going to try slitting your wrists next? You’ve got some nerve. For a man, you attempt to jump off buildings, you go to bars to get wasted... Do you think you’re some kind of hero right now? If I hadn’t suppressed this, you’d already be a Sheridan Family scandal plastered across the front page of every newspaper in Portmire!"

Elliot was her elder, and his admonishing tone was even fiercer than her own father’s. Selena shrank back, a little scared.

Just minutes before he’d arrived at the hospital, the editor-in-chief of a newspaper had called, holding photos of Selena getting drunk at the bar.

Given Elliot’s status in Portmire, the editor hadn’t dared to release them, fearing disastrous repercussions. So, he had called Elliot.

He’d hoped to both get acquainted with Elliot and squeeze some benefits out of him.

Elliot paid a hefty sum for his silence. Naturally, the editor would now keep his mouth shut tight, burn the photos, and pretend they had never existed.

Selena’s face remained crestfallen. She didn’t dare look up at Elliot.

In truth, at the moment of the crash, Selena had thought she was going to die. It was only then that she discovered just how terrified she was of death.

Selena said timidly, "Second Uncle, I’ll never do it again!"

"If there is a next time, don’t you dare call me Second Uncle again!"

Having escaped death once, Selena wouldn’t be so quick to do something foolish again.

It just went to show: a miserable life was still better than no life at all.

Elliot’s phone rang. Selena watched her uncle, saw his handsome, cold face soften the moment he saw the screen, the corners of his lips slowly turning up.

Then, Elliot shot her a cold glare. "You’d better do some serious reflecting on how you’re going to explain this at home!"

"..." Selena pouted and grunted in displeasure.

’Compared to the scolding, she was far more curious about who could be calling her second uncle. Who could actually make him smile!’

The call lasted about ten minutes. Selena watched the man standing on the balcony as he talked.

When he turned, she saw his profile, and the smile on his face was even more gentle. Selena’s eyes widened in astonishment, wondering if she was hallucinating.

In all her life, the expressions she had seen most often on Elliot were cold and serious. She had never seen him smile with such tenderness.

’She was one hundred percent certain: her second uncle definitely had a woman on the side. Otherwise, he wouldn’t be smiling in such a smoldering, wild way!’

’Who is it?’

’Joanne Donovan? Or Amanda Thorne?’

The call was from Georgia Thorne, asking about Selena’s whereabouts.

Elliot held the phone, his rich voice clear as he spoke. "Georgia, who holds the number one spot in your heart right now?"

The name "Georgia" rolled off his tongue, tinged with a hint of intimacy. The tips of Georgia’s ears flushed red, and she didn’t answer.

Still, she could hear the thick, sour tang of jealousy in his voice.

She whispered, "Elliot, Selena is my best friend!"

Elliot hummed in response. "Your best friend or your man—which one is more important?"

Elliot was clearly backing her into a corner, the kind of man who wouldn’t let up until he got an answer.

’If she said Selena was more important, he would definitely get angry.’ Georgia hesitated. "You’re more important."

"Then who am I?" Hearing Georgia’s shy voice on the other end of the line, like a soft caress to his heart, made Elliot’s mood lift even more.

"The great President of the Sheridan Group, Elliot Sheridan!" Georgia teased him deliberately. "Looking for more trouble, are you? It seems last night’s punishment wasn’t enough."

A blush immediately bloomed on her fair cheeks. Thinking of last night’s passionate entanglement, she couldn’t stop her face from flushing and her heart from racing.

Pushed by his words, Georgia finally ran out of options and softly admitted that he was her boyfriend.

Satisfied by her answer, Elliot shifted his position. The flirting was over; it was time to get serious.

"Come to the hospital after work." ƒreewebɳovel.com

"The hospital?"

Georgia was stunned for a few seconds. Elliot then explained that Selena had been in a car accident.

He then hung up and went back into the hospital room.

Selena, feeling a bit bolder, asked curiously, "Second Uncle, who were you on the phone with?"

’She guessed it had to be a woman. She had never seen her second uncle smile so gently.’

Elliot’s face hardened. "Don’t change the subject. How’s that self-reflection coming along?"

"..."

Selena immediately became as silent as a lamb, puffing her cheeks without a word.

Her injuries weren’t that serious. A few days of rest would be enough. She didn’t want the family to worry.

"Georgia will be here after she gets off work. You figure out what to do," Elliot said, sitting down and crossing his legs.

’His mood was still good because of Georgia’s admission. It was just a pity that he, her boyfriend, couldn’t be revealed to the public yet. He had to remain hidden.’

Elliot’s words immediately diverted Selena’s attention. Her thoughts instantly shifted from the phone call to Georgia Thorne.

’Georgia and Justin Sullivan... That was a possibility she had never imagined.’

’When she had dialed "My Love" and heard Georgia’s voice, she had truly felt like she was about to collapse.’

’There were so many beautiful women in the world. Why did Justin Sullivan have to fall for Georgia?’

’The world was too small. They were all trapped in the same circle.’

’Her thoughts were a mess. For now, she didn’t want to face either Georgia or Justin.’ "I don’t want to see her!"

Elliot lit a cigarette and exhaled a puff of blue-gray smoke. "Why not?"

’How could a girl talk about matters of the heart with an outsider—especially when that outsider was her own elder?’
