Chapter 108: Chapter 108: We Probably Won’t Get Married, Right?
"Go on!"
Georgia Thorne’s eyes welled up, a watery sheen covering her dark pupils.
Needless to say, her lips were surely red and swollen. Anyone could see she looked as if she had just been ravished.
’That scoundrel. He clearly did it on purpose.’
Georgia Thorne hurried to open the door. Hayley Sullivan, dressed in beautiful, expensive clothes, was standing at the entrance, about to leave.
"I thought you weren’t home!" Hayley Sullivan turned and sized Georgia Thorne up. freewёbnoνel.com
"I was cooking, so I didn’t hear the door. I thought I was just hearing things!" Georgia Thorne lowered her head guiltily, not daring to look at Hayley Sullivan.
The kitchen door was half-open, and the aroma of food wafted out. Hayley Sullivan glanced inside and saw a soup still simmering.
"Hayley, is there something you need?" Georgia asked in a low voice.
Hayley Sullivan had no interest in Georgia Thorne’s home. She had only come for her own purposes.
"How have things been with you and Mason Morgan lately?" Hayley Sullivan sat on the sofa, but when she saw a cat sleeping there, she stood up again in disgust.
Her outfit was very expensive. It was brand new, and if it got cat hair on it, it would be ruined.
Hayley Sullivan didn’t like cats. "Where did this little beast come from? It has no manners!"
The sharp voice woke the sleeping cat. Blue let out a MEOW at Hayley Sullivan and arched its back, treating her as an enemy and entering a battle-ready state.
Georgia Thorne quickly went forward and picked up Blue. "It’s my pet."
"No wonder. Like owner, like beast!" Hayley Sullivan shot her a contemptuous look, her words exceedingly harsh.
Finding the place too dreary, she said, "I came here to give you a piece of advice. Don’t think that just because Justin and Selena Sheridan broke up, he’s going to get together with you."
"The Sullivan Family would never let a nameless, illegitimate daughter like you marry into our family. Stay far away from Justin, and don’t let me see you two together!"
’She was probably the one who caused the breakup between Justin Sullivan and Selena Sheridan.’
Hayley Sullivan and Jane Jennings had been extremely optimistic about the marriage between Justin Sullivan and Selena Sheridan. If it had gone through, they would have been able to get a larger share of the Sheridan Family’s assets when the time came to divide the inheritance.
But now that dream was ruined. They were about to get engaged, and yet they had broken up.
The strange thing was, Silas Sullivan hadn’t flown into a rage. Instead, he had specifically asked to see Georgia Thorne.
He insisted that Georgia Thorne must attend his sixtieth birthday party to meet him in person.
Justin Sullivan was Silas Sullivan’s only son, and he had doted on him since childhood, granting his every wish.
As for wanting to see Georgia, Justin had probably already made things clear to Silas.
And since Georgia happened to be her stepsister, Silas had Hayley notify her personally.
’He had me come personally. He’s really showing her some respect.’
Hayley Sullivan clenched her fists in anger, yet she couldn’t say a single word in protest.
Hayley Sullivan taunted and mocked Georgia Thorne until, just before leaving, she finally said, "Next week is my dad’s sixtieth birthday. Here’s the invitation!"
A red, gold-foil invitation was thrust into Georgia Thorne’s arms. Before she could react, Hayley Sullivan was gone.
It was safe to say that Georgia Thorne had no dealings with the Sullivan Family.
She had only heard what kind of person Silas Sullivan was but had never met him.
She had, however, met Hayley Sullivan’s mother, Jane Jennings, who would occasionally visit the Thorne Family home to have a heart-to-heart with Hayley.
Jane Jennings was clearly a well-bred lady from a scholarly family. freewёbnoνel.com
Georgia Thorne couldn’t figure it out. Why was she being asked to attend Silas Sullivan’s sixtieth birthday party?
She closed the door, placed the invitation on the table, and upon hearing the soup boiling over in the kitchen, she rushed in to turn off the stove.
When she came out carrying the soup, Elliot Sheridan was sitting in a chair, looking at the red invitation.
Silas Sullivan was not only a good painter but also had excellent handwriting.
He had heard everything Hayley Sullivan had said to Georgia Thorne in the living room just now.
He hadn’t particularly disliked Hayley Sullivan before, but now things were different.
No one else had the right to criticize the woman he loved.
He pulled Georgia Thorne into his arms, seating her on his lap.
Georgia Thorne cried out, "What are you doing? It’s time to eat!"
Georgia Thorne turned her face away, not wanting Elliot Sheridan to see her expression.
Her mood was a bit foul right now, ruined by Hayley Sullivan.
Elliot Sheridan forcefully turned her chin, making her look directly at him.
His deep eyes stared right at her, conveying a serious intensity. "Georgia, I’m your man. You can tell me whenever you’re unhappy."
Georgia Thorne was a woman of delicate emotions.
And right now, she needed this strong yet gentle man before her to soothe her and give her a sense of security.
Her eyes grew moist. He must have heard what Hayley Sullivan said from the other room. "Elliot, I don’t think we’ll ever get married, will we?"
"Why would you say that?"
Georgia Thorne shook her head without a word.
’The truth is, I have low self-esteem. I love this man, but I don’t dare to imagine a future with him.’
’My status is too humble; the Sheridan Family would never accept an illegitimate daughter like me.’
Georgia Thorne sniffled, then forced a bright smile and said cheerfully, "Let’s eat!"
She tried to get off Elliot Sheridan’s lap, but he held her down by the shoulders, keeping her from moving.
"Marriage is between two people, you know?"
Georgia Thorne looked up at him and, after a moment of silence, said, "If we don’t eat now, the food will get cold!"
Georgia Thorne was in a terrible mood. Because of Hayley Sullivan’s words, her hopes for a future with Elliot Sheridan seemed even more distant.
For Georgia Thorne, the National Day holiday passed by too quickly.
For seven whole days, she and Elliot Sheridan stayed at home together, just like an ordinary couple.
When he was working, she would curl up nearby and watch movies with her headphones on.
Sometimes, she would get so absorbed in her movie that the working man would grow dissatisfied, come over to tease her for a bit, and only then return to his work.
After dinner, they loved to cuddle together and watch TV.
On the last day of the holiday, Nancy Hughes would be back in the evening.
And as it happened, Elliot Sheridan also had something to attend to and needed to make a trip back to the Sheridan Family estate.
At the door, Georgia Thorne handed him his suit jacket and stood on her tiptoes to carefully adjust his tie.
Elliot Sheridan took the opportunity to wrap his hand around hers, pull her forcefully into his embrace, and, with his other hand supporting her waist, kiss her deeply.
"Don’t forget to miss me."
Georgia Thorne gave a shy "mm-hmm," her face flushed, and pushed at the man’s waist. "You should get going!"
’How embarrassing.’ The feeling was a bit like sending a husband off to work, filled with reluctance to see him go.
Elliot Sheridan grunted in acknowledgment and went downstairs.
Owen Sawyer was already waiting in the car downstairs. Watching the seconds tick by, he couldn’t help but click his tongue.
’Miss Thorne sure is charming. She’s the first one to make our President so head over heels that he postponed all his work during the holiday.’
’It’s unbelievable. When no one could find Elliot Sheridan, he was actually here in this small apartment, spending seven whole days with Georgia Thorne.’
Just as he was thinking this, the man’s tall, upright figure emerged from the building ahead. Owen Sawyer wiped the surprise from his face and said respectfully to the man getting into the car, "Sir."
Elliot Sheridan had his suit jacket draped over his arm, and the corners of his eyes crinkled with a smile. It was clear he was in a rather good mood.
Owen Sawyer started the car, destination: the Sheridan Family estate.
As he drove, his mind wandered, ’Just what kind of spell did Georgia Thorne cast to have Elliot Sheridan so captivated?’
During his vacation, Elliot Sheridan had turned off his personal phone, making himself unreachable to anyone. He had also turned off Georgia Thorne’s phone as well.
The two of them had spent a period of time with no one to disturb them.
’This kind of life isn’t bad at all,’ he suddenly thought. ’Falling asleep holding Georgia, and the first person I see upon waking is also Georgia. She cooks for me, does my laundry, cleans, and even nags me a little from time to time, like a diligent little wife.’
