Chapter 1231: Chapter 1231: Let’s Get Engaged

"Okay." Summer Sutton responded to him blandly.

Watt Bennet smiled softly, accompanied her through her routines, and drove her to the breakfast shop.

After sharing a simple breakfast with Summer, he drove her to the office before heading back to his villa to shower and freshen up.

Throughout the morning, they changed locations three times, almost covering half the city, yet he didn’t feel tired.

Upon arriving at the office, Summer’s daily work proceeded as usual, appearing no different than any other day.

Seeing her like this made Watt lower his guard, believing she had listened to his words from that night and would not leave again.

The matter concerning Lorraine Hughes, he never ceased investigating.

However, since the incident happened at the Hughes Family, only Lorraine knows the truth of that night. Now with Kelly Ann gone, Watt finds it nearly impossible to uncover anything.

Unless Lorraine herself is willing to speak about that night.

Clearly, that’s impossible.

When Watt returned the day after the incident, he had actually checked his clothes during his shower and found no traces of women’s perfume or other scents.

He suspected nothing had occurred that night, but lacking evidence, he couldn’t clearly explain to Summer...

...

Summer granted him ten days for the investigation.

Ten days, and if there’s a chance for a reversal, Summer thinks this duration should be ample.

However, after nine days, the situation remains as it was reported by the media, showing no signs of change.

For the past few days, Summer’s heart has felt as cold as if submerged in an ice cellar.

On the tenth day, Henry Hughes arranged to meet Watt.

Their meeting was set at a restaurant with a rather tranquil environment.

Upon meeting, Henry immediately asked, "Watt, how do you feel about my Lorraine? I know you haven’t known each other long, but nowadays, many young people marry first and fall in love later. Haven’t you and she already been through the ups and downs? Our Hughes family’s status is quite a match for you. I only have Lorraine as my daughter, her matrimonial matters have almost made my hair turn white with worry. If you believe Lorraine and our family are suitable, why not consider a business marriage?"

He spoke bluntly, without beating around the bush.

When arranging the meeting with Watt, he chose this restaurant for its fewer people, good privacy, and low chance of running into reporters.

Yet, what Henry didn’t expect was that as soon as he appeared at the restaurant, he was noticed by two bystanders sitting not far away.

The discussion about Watt marrying Lorraine was immediately posted online once mentioned.

Henry was unaware of what was happening and was still awaiting Watt’s reply.

Watt responded almost without thinking, with cold indifference, "Mr. Hughes, regarding that night’s incident, I have my responsibilities. However, your request, I cannot accept. Aside from marrying Miss Hughes, I can agree to anything you propose. I believe Mr. Hughes wouldn’t want to see his daughter marry a man who will never come to love her in his lifetime, right?"

Henry was stunned by his words.

He had not anticipated Watt’s resolute stance.

Nor had he expected that his daughter, whom he viewed as excellent, would be rejected so completely.

Watt didn’t linger in the restaurant; he merely told Henry to inform him of whatever conditions he desired over the phone, then left the restaurant.

During his time at the restaurant, Watt wasn’t aware of what was transpiring online.
