Chapter 90: Chapter 90: Black and Blue, Beaten Half to Death
On her second day on the island, Faye Yardley found herself wandering alone again.
Some people, it seems, are just destined to have ill-fated encounters. And just like that, she ran into the red-haired fatty and his two cronies again.
Leading them was a man dressed head-to-toe in black, a little over five-foot-seven, with hair so long it covered his eyes.
The three of them formed a circle, cornering her at an intersection.
Faye Yardley smiled at them. "Good dogs don’t block the path. Move."
"You’ve got guts. But I’m afraid you won’t be leaving here today."
The moment Faye Yardley raised her hand, a silver pistol appeared in it, its dark muzzle pointed at the man in black. "Are you sure?"
"A common pistol like that won’t get you out of here alive."
The man was clearly confident in his abilities.
The most unremarkable of the three waved his hand, and Faye Yardley felt the space around her change.
"Thirty seconds."
Hearing this, Faye Yardley’s brow furrowed slightly. ’I can’t say I’m not nervous.’ They had clearly come prepared, and their powers were stronger than they had initially let on.
The man in black let out a sinister chuckle. "More than enough..."
BANG!
The special, isolating Energy Shield was shattered with a single punch.
PTUI!
The man who had cast the Energy Shield instantly spewed a mouthful of blood. Faye Yardley took two steps back, dodging the spray.
"It’s not right for three grown men to be bullying a little girl."
Watching the man calmly striding toward them, Faye Yardley was shocked. ’It’s him!’
’But we’ve never even crossed paths. Why would he help me?’
These thoughts flashed through her mind in an instant, but Faye was already scanning her surroundings for a suitable escape route.
"This has nothing to do with you. You don’t want to make an enemy of us Vultures, do you?"
"So Vulture only knows how to pick on little girls. If you’ve got the guts, why don’t you go to Island 98 and take out Island Master Nash?"
He seemed to walk slowly, step by step, but by the time he finished speaking, he was already standing beside Faye Yardley.
He turned to Faye Yardley with a gentle smile. "My lady, you must have been frightened."
Hearing Zane address Faye in such a way, the man from Vulture’s entire demeanor changed. He gave a nervous laugh and said, "Mr. Zane is right. Harassing a young lady isn’t the Vulture way."
With that, he prepared to leave.
Zane chuckled. "Mr. Blackwood, you frightened our young lady. Shouldn’t you leave something behind?"
The Vulture operative, unsure if he could defeat Zane, chose the pragmatic route. He pulled a small black ball from his pocket and tossed it over.
Then he helped his injured companion up, gave the red-haired fatty a kick, and left.
Zane inspected the small black ball carefully. After confirming it was safe, he said, "My lady, please take it."
"Thank you." Faye Yardley didn’t take it. Instead, she asked curiously, "I don’t believe I know you, sir."
"Sister, you should take it."
Yvonne Lynch walked out from around the corner, flashing Faye Yardley a brilliant smile.
But the more brilliant her smile, the more uneasy Faye felt.
"Thank you, my lady, for bringing our princess to Serenia. We’ve come to take her home, and we hope we have your blessing," Zane said with utmost sincerity.
He truly hadn’t expected to be so lucky as to run into their long-lost princess on a simple trip out.
As long as he brought the princess back, he would surely receive a potion that would help him advance further. He might even break through to King Level in one go.
Faye Yardley looked at Yvonne Lynch in surprise. "Yvonne... so you’re going back?"
"Yeah, my mom and dad are over there, so I have to go back with General Zane." Yvonne then asked expectantly, "Sister, can you keep my room for me on your raft?"
Faye Yardley nodded without hesitation. "Yes, I’ll always keep it for you."
Standing at the docks, Faye Yardley watched the fleet of ships recede into the distance. She watched the figure waving nonstop from the deck shrink into a tiny black dot, and a sudden emptiness bloomed in her heart.
’But I’d only spent a few days with Yvonne Lynch in total.’
’And with her gone, I wouldn’t have to spend all day guessing about her identity. I should be happy, really.’
She looked down at the new, coin-sized vine tattoo on her right arm. Yvonne had left it on her before she departed, saying that with this, members of the Zombie Clan wouldn’t harm her.
There was also a new bracelet on her wrist—the Twisted Gold Bracelet Zane had given her. It sealed a Powerful Attack Skill inside and was meant for her self-defense.
And she now had an Ocean Positioning Ball—the small black ball the Vulture operative had tossed her as an apology.
’If Yvonne Lynch is the princess of the Zombie Clan, does that mean she’s a zombie too? But she has a Healing Ability... It’s so strange.’
"Sister, are you going to stay in Serenia?"
Faye Yardley turned to see Willow Yardley, who had appeared by her side at some point, and smiled. "There doesn’t seem to be much reason to stay here anymore."
’I’ve gained enough on this island.’
’More importantly, this place isn’t truly safe, and I am indeed very weak.’
’I’m not as strong as I imagined.’
’Clearing Dungeon 1 by myself doesn’t prove I’m strong.’
’I guess people really do need a reality check to see themselves clearly.’
’But I wonder where my brother and Eamon have gone.’
’Maybe I can leave a message for them at the hotel, telling them to come back to the raft when they’re done having fun.’
"Yvonne left. Will Eamon leave too?"
Faye Yardley paused for a moment. "I don’t know. But if we run into him later, I can ask if he’s planning to go back home from here."
’If Eamon leaves, my planting room will really be missing a capable assistant.’
"Who’s leaving? I’m not leaving, anyway. Sister, we have a contract, remember?"
"Eamon, what are you doing here all of a sudden? Did my brother go back?"
Eamon hummed in affirmation. "Yes, his Invitation Card ran out of time, so he disappeared."
’Wandering the streets aimlessly by myself was pretty boring, so I decided to come back.’
Faye Yardley asked curiously, "You really don’t want to go home? It’ll be pretty boring once you’re back on the raft with me."
"Nope, not going back. It’s a huge pain to get home from here. I’d rather stick with you, Sister."
"Then let’s head back."
But Eamon suddenly said, "Sister, I found a cool place. Come with me."
Standing in front of a combat gym, Faye Yardley couldn’t see what was so special about it.
It wasn’t until Eamon pushed her inside that she discovered it had special training rooms.
It was like a video game where you had to defeat the monsters on one level to advance to the next.
Moreover, you could choose different settings to spawn different types of monsters.
Training defense and training offense would absolutely summon different monsters, and you could even set it so you’d have to repeat a level until you met your own predefined standards.
It was a very interesting place.
Needless to say, when Eamon offered to pay for her to go in and "play," Faye Yardley didn’t refuse. She immediately rented a special training room and went inside.
She thought she could casually take down the little monsters on the first level, but instead, she was beaten black and blue and to within an inch of her life.
This was literally paying for pain!
