Chapter 85: Chapter 85: So Much for Loving Peace?
Turning around, they saw a tall, curvaceous, mature woman in sky-high heels swaying gracefully toward them.
"Islander 78?"
As the woman drew closer, Faye Yardley noticed a long, fluffy, pure-white tail trailing behind her.
"Yes. You can call me Cicada."
"Hello, The Cicada Lord. Thank you for your gift," Faye Yardley said, giving her hand a little wave.
"It’s beautiful. It suits you very well."
Cicada drew closer, lifting the necklace from her neck. A nostalgic look filled her eyes. "It really does suit you."
She then let go and said with a smile, "Have fun here in Serenia. I’ll give you thirty percent off anything else you like."
She arrived as suddenly as she departed.
Faye Yardley looked down at her hand. ’And just like that, I got a ring for free.’
Ethan Yardley waited until The Cicada Lord was out of sight before saying, "Faye, your Luck is really something."
"Yeah, yeah, she’s so lucky," Eamon immediately chimed in. He then said, "Miss Yvonne, take a look and see what you like."
Yvonne Lynch smiled sweetly. "In that case, I’ll take this one."
It was a simple four-leaf clover Crystal necklace with no added Attributes, but it reminded her of a necklace her mother had once given her.
Eamon was a little surprised. "Are you sure? You don’t want to look at anything else?"
"No, this one is perfect."
The clerk maintained a perfect smile. "You have excellent taste. The four-leaf clover symbolizes luck, and wearing it is said to bring good fortune. Should I wrap it up for you? After the discount, you can take it for just one silver coin."
"We’ll take it," said Eamon. "Miss Yvonne, go ahead and put it on."
Eamon also generously bought Ethan Yardley a ring with Attack +1, which made Ethan think much more highly of him.
He also picked up a Snowflake Necklace with no Attributes for Willow Yardley, who had stayed behind on the raft.
After leaving the shop, they found the Treant Hotel and checked in.
Three silver coins a night. ’It doesn’t seem all that expensive,’ she thought.
Faye Yardley thought she must have been in shock earlier to now consider this price cheap. ƒгeeweɓn૦vel.com
"Valued guests, the hotel offers a variety of recreational activities. Please let us know if there’s anything you require." freeweɓnovel.cøm
Ethan Yardley ventured, "Are there any activities that can quickly raise one’s basic physical Attributes?"
The hotel butler’s smile remained unchanged. "We do. Guests can choose the more exciting multi-person sparring sessions or a private training chamber. The fees vary, with the minimum being one silver coin per hour."
The sky was the limit; as long as you were willing to pay, you could get anything you wanted. If the hotel didn’t offer a service, they would refer you to a place that did.
At the mention of spending money, Ethan Yardley fell silent. ’It’s miserable being a broke man. It makes sense that Eamon has money, but how is my sister so wealthy?’
’You can’t get Gold Coins from treasure chests, can you?’
After a moment’s thought, Faye Yardley said, "Okay, thank you. We’d like to walk around outside and explore for a bit first. Do you have any recommendations for interesting places to visit?"
"There are far too many to name. One moment, please." A short while later, the hotel butler returned with a map. "You can use this to choose your destinations."
"Thank you."
The group of four left the Treant Hotel and began to wander through Serenia.
They kept encountering all sorts of "people" on the streets.
A group of small, hopping zombies bounced toward them, but they froze the instant they saw Faye Yardley. They obediently shuffled to the side, clearing the main path, which made the onlookers stare at Faye’s group in a new light.
Ethan Yardley was dying to ask his sister what that was about, but he knew better than to press the issue in public.
"Anywhere you guys particularly want to go?" Faye Yardley asked, holding up the map and pretending not to have noticed a thing.
Eamon piped up excitedly, "Can we go to the mountaintop bar?"
Although Serenia was a port city, it also had a small mountain range dotted with buildings. Seen from a distance, the undulating architecture was quite distinctive.
"Sure," Faye Yardley said after studying the map. "We’ll turn at the next intersection and head for the mountain."
Luck was a fickle thing. Everyone had called this a peaceful, neutral city, yet the four of them turned a corner only to run straight into a three-way brawl.
And it seemed like everyone was opening with their ultimate attacks.
Flame Bursts, Thunder Strikes, and ice cones instantly devastated the surrounding buildings and pedestrians caught in the crossfire.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
The deafening booms from the colliding Skills were as powerful as a full-scale bombing run.
"Faye, take Yvonne and get out of here! Head straight for the docks!" Ethan Yardley yelled, grabbing Eamon by the collar and taking off at a dead sprint.
Amidst the CRASHES and the spray of shrapnel, Faye Yardley yelled back, "Got it!"
She grabbed Yvonne Lynch and ran, too.
They hadn’t taken more than a few steps before their group was scattered by the chaotic crowd, screaming in a mixture of fear and excitement.
Faye Yardley dragged Yvonne Lynch along, dodging left and right. Pushed and shoved by the crowd, with fragments of buildings raining down around them, they were a sorry sight.
Luckily, not a single piece of shrapnel hit her.
If they loosened their grip for even a second, the crowd would have torn them apart.
By now, they had no idea which way they were running.
They felt like they’d been running for an eternity, buffeted by the crowd. The sounds of explosions, fighting, and screams hadn’t faded; if anything, they seemed to be getting closer.
Faye Yardley trusted her Luck, so she just held on to Yvonne Lynch for dear life and forced her way forward.
She couldn’t spare a thought for what might lie ahead.
"Look, the City Guard is here! The GHA, too!"
"Hurry up and run! The GHA is here!"
"Fuck! I’ll deal with you two little bastards later!"
"Think you can just run away after starting a fight, old geezer? It’s not that easy!"
The sounds of fighting began to fade, but then a brilliant light flashed, and all noise ceased.
Faye Yardley was now crouched inside a residence, pulling Yvonne Lynch down with her.
"Sis... *sob*..."
Faye Yardley clamped a hand over Yvonne Lynch’s mouth. ’I wonder if Yvonne’s presence is canceling out my Luck,’ she thought.
Of all the random places to hide, who would have thought they’d stumble upon a melancholy young man covered in wounds and looking like he was on his last breath.
"Save me..."
His voice was extremely faint, but both Faye Yardley and Yvonne heard it clearly.
The frantic footsteps outside quickly ceased, as if the chaos had been forcibly quelled.
Faye Yardley didn’t hesitate for long; she decided to trust her instincts.
She took a Hemostatic Pill from her backpack and pushed it into the young man’s mouth. Then she used a Bandage on him. After a moment’s thought, she also took out a Blood Replenishing Agent and poured it down his throat.
Even after all that, the young man’s condition barely improved.
Yvonne Lynch looked from the man to Faye, her eyes asking for permission.
Seeing Faye Yardley nod, Yvonne placed her hand over the deepest wound on his chest and activated her Healing Ability.
The Healing Ability was clearly far more effective. Seeing the color return to his face, Faye Yardley squatted in front of him and held out her hand. "That’ll be your treatment fee."
