She sucked in a sharp breath of cold air.
Although Faye Yardley reacted quickly, using the medicine cabinet to chain together a series of side rolls and a low front flip to escape the zombies’ encirclement.
But a zombie still managed to clip her left waist with a rising knee.
She rolled from under the examination bed out into the main room. Before she could even get up, her eyes swept over another zombie shambling in.
The zombie that had just entered didn’t look like much of a threat.
The real danger was behind her!
With no time to stand, the long knife in her hand was swapped for a pistol.
BANG! BANG! BANG!
She fired with both hands, extinguishing the Soul Fire of the zombie at the door with one shot. The scarlet-eyed zombie, however, was clearly not so easy to hit in the eye.
The commotion attracted even more zombies in her direction.
Faye Yardley couldn’t help but curse under her breath as she dodged another attack from the red-eyed zombie.
BOOM!
It smashed its fist into the spot Faye Yardley had just vacated, cracking the smooth floor tiles.
And this was with Faye Yardley’s "Undead Creature Fearer" Title reducing its attack power by ten percent.
Without that ten percent debuff, the fight would have been even more difficult for Faye Yardley.
’System, is this a solo Dungeon? You’re not giving me any way to survive! It’s more like a suicide mission!’
Amidst the cacophony of shuffling feet and guttural groans, the sounds of BOOMs and BANGs echoed.
Faye Yardley was lucky to even be able to defend herself. The infirmary was too small, limiting the use of her agility attribute. ’Damn it, there’s no way I can win this. Running is the better option.’
An occasional gunshot would conveniently take out a "cute" little zombie.
She tried to break through the doorway, but the red-eyed zombie blocked her path.
’I can’t run. Stay calm. It’s not invincible. I will kill it!’
The more desperate the fight became, the calmer Faye Yardley grew. Her protective suit was shredded into a tattered beggar’s outfit under the relentless clawing attacks.
Do people feel pain when they’re fighting with such intense focus?
Faye Yardley’s answer was yes, but it was subconsciously ignored. Or rather, there was no time to dwell on her own injuries when she had to focus on how to kill the enemy and save her own life.
She ran out of bullets and didn’t even have the chance to manually reload. Fortunately, swapping to new firearms and melee weapons from her backpack was a seamless process.
This was the only reason Faye Yardley could maintain a precarious balance between offense and defense.
There were indeed zombies outside trying to push in for a piece of the action, but they ended up either dead by her gun or by the red-eyed zombie’s claws.
By now, everything in the infirmary was a chaotic mess. The examination bed had been kicked over at some point and was now a twisted wreck.
But just as a flurry of wild punches can kill a master, a spray of random bullets can get lucky and hit a zombie’s eye!
Because her mind was so focused, the instant a stray bullet hit the red-eyed zombie’s left eye and made it pause, Faye Yardley, spear in hand, disregarded her own safety and plunged the weapon straight into its right eye socket. Even as a claw tore into her, she twisted the spear, extinguishing its Soul Fire in one fell swoop.
Her right shoulder was pierced straight through by the zombie’s claws in its dying counterattack.
But Faye Yardley still felt a deep, heartfelt joy at having vanquished a powerful foe.
’Isn’t luck a part of one’s own strength?!’
She lifted her left foot and kicked hard against the red-eyed zombie’s waist, throwing herself backward to pull her right shoulder free from its claws. Crimson blood instantly soaked more than half of her arm.
Faye Yardley felt a wave of relief. ’Good thing it didn’t get stuck on the bone, or I wouldn’t have been able to cut the claws out myself.’
Once she was free, the scent of blood sent the zombies outside into a frenzy.
She took out a Hemostatic Pill and tossed it into her mouth, not forgetting to follow it up with a Blood Replenishing Agent.
Faye Yardley was never afraid of regular zombies, let alone ones whose attack Attributes were forcefully suppressed.
So, even with only her left arm fully functional, Faye Yardley broke through the zombie encirclement and successfully ran to the security room at the school gate. She finished off the zombie guard inside before it could react, slammed the door shut, and began to strip off her bloody clothes. After applying a Bandage to her right shoulder, she changed into a tracksuit.
Fortunately, the French braid she had deliberately done before entering the Dungeon, though loosened by the fierce battle, hadn’t come undone, saving Faye Yardley some trouble.
Her right shoulder was temporarily immobilized, which was inconvenient.
She hadn’t completely shaken the zombies outside; she had only found a relatively safe place to change.
No matter how noisy it was outside, the room was relatively quiet. So when Faye Yardley heard two faint sounds—a PING and a THUD—her nerves instantly tensed. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
"Who’s there?!"
Faye Yardley spun around, her left hand raising the gun to aim at the cabinet behind her.
There was no more movement, as if she had just been hearing things.
"Come out now, or I’ll shoot."
Her voice was flat, devoid of emotion. Even with only one good hand, Faye Yardley wasn’t afraid.
A soft, frightened voice came from inside the locker: "Don’t... don’t shoot."
The locker door was then pushed open, and a figure slowly shuffled out from the bottom.
As she looked up, she saw the dark muzzle of a gun pointed right at her head. Her gaze traveled higher and met a pair of cold, wary eyes.
"Please don’t shoot, I..."
Faye Yardley watched her slowly stand up, wondering how a girl about her own height, even if a bit thinner, could have squeezed herself into such a tiny space at the bottom of the locker.
’And is it normal for a normal-looking person to appear in a Dungeon full of zombies?’
"Name!"
"Huh? Oh, I’m Yvonne Lynch. Hello. Big Sis, are you a student at No. 2 High too?" Yvonne Lynch’s small face was full of anticipation.
Faye Yardley shook her head. "I’m not."
She didn’t even lower her gun, keeping it trained on Yvonne Lynch.
In truth, Faye Yardley’s heart was anything but calm when she heard the name.
’How could I forget that name? In the book I read, Yvonne Lynch was the female lead who provided the most help to the protagonist.’
’And why is she appearing inside a Dungeon?’
"How old are you?"
"Seventeen," Yvonne Lynch said weakly. "Big Sis, can you... put the gun down?"
Faye Yardley looked at her harmless appearance, but alarm bells were ringing in her mind. ’This person is definitely dangerous, but right now...’
After weighing her options, Faye Yardley stared at Yvonne Lynch and slowly lowered her left hand, which made Yvonne Lynch let out a huge sigh of relief.
Then she sniffed in Faye Yardley’s direction and said, "Big Sis, you’re hurt. I can heal you."
Faye Yardley watched her, unmoved, as she wracked her brain, trying desperately to recall every description of Yvonne Lynch from the book.
But in a male-oriented novel, especially a harem story, the female leads were basically just tools, assets for the male protagonist to show off.
Although she appeared frequently, the focus was always on describing how cool and domineering the male protagonist, Logan Langdon, was.
"Big Sis, I... I really did awaken a Healing Ability, it’s very useful..."
