Chapter 72: Chapter 72: Entering Dungeon 1 Again

’I used to have a +1 charm pendant, but since I can only wear one necklace, of course I’m going to wear the one that can block a single fatal blow.’
Her Constitution had increased by another point—a result of her training.
’Was Dungeon 1 a bit too stingy, or was I just playing it wrong? How come I didn’t get anything else besides the items from the points exchange and that one firearm?’
’Damn it. Next time I go, I’ll have to explore carefully before I start fighting.’
Faye then sent a message to Bonnie Callahan: "Miss Bonnie, if you could have any skill, what would it be?"
A call from her came through almost instantly.
"Hon, you have a way for me to get a skill?"
Faye hummed in affirmation. "Go into Dungeon 1 and kill zombies. You get points for killing them, and you can use those points to exchange for whatever you want before you leave."
Though excited, Bonnie Callahan didn’t lose her head. "I’m still a total weakling right now, so it’s a bit unrealistic for me to go into the Dungeon and kill zombies on my own to get an exchange. Hon, could you exchange one for me first? What would you want in return?"
The last question stumped Faye. ’What do I want?’ At the moment, it didn’t seem like she needed anything.
"I can’t think of anything I want right now. At least, I’m not lacking anything at this stage." freēwēbnovel.com
Bonnie Callahan was decisive. "Hon, in that case, next time you have a chance and some spare points, please get me a shooting-type skill."
Her words made Faye keenly sense the implications. "Do you have bullets? Arrows? You know how to make them?"
"You’re so smart, hon. I can make regular Arrows."
"That’s great. You can just trade me regular Arrows, then. But if we do that, the quantity you’ll need to hand over won’t be small."
Hearing her say that, Bonnie Callahan actually relaxed quite a bit. "Okay, okay! Being able to pay you back is the best I could ask for. The quantity doesn’t matter, no matter how large. I’ll deliver a thousand regular Arrows to start. Please check the Red Envelope."
Unfortunately, each Red Envelope could only send a maximum of 99 items, and a pair of friends could only send each other ten Red Envelopes at a time.
So for the remaining 10 Arrows, Bonnie Callahan sent Faye a targeted Red Envelope in their small group chat.
Wade Warren: "Bonnie, what are you sending the group admin? Trying to secretly bribe her?"
Bonnie Callahan: "Hehe, you caught me, Mr. Warren. I’m just trying to leech some of the admin’s good luck. Maybe I’ll hit a big jackpot myself."
Wade Warren: "Young people sure think fast. Guess I’d better keep up. [Targeted Red Envelope]"
And just like that, Faye received five targeted Red Envelopes.
Faye Yardley: "I’m so happy, thank you, everyone! Wishing you all the best of luck!"
As they joked around, the time reached 7 p.m. This was her daily training time, and Faye never forgot about her real business.
On Day 14 of the game, Faye once again used a Dungeon 1 Invitation Card to enter the solo zombie Dungeon.
Faye blinked, and the scene had changed completely.
She observed her surroundings. It looked like an examination room in a hospital, and she was sitting on the exam bed.
From outside the door, she could hear the shuffling footsteps of zombies and their irrepressible, hoarse growls.
A faintly familiar, putrid stench hung in the air.
’I must be going crazy, actually finding the smell of a zombie Dungeon familiar.’
She raised a hand and gently slapped her forehead, trying to banish the dreadful thought.
Concentrating, she listened intently but heard nothing else. She slid off the exam bed as quietly as possible, tiptoed to the window, and carefully lifted a corner of the curtain.
But the scene outside wasn’t what she expected.
It seemed she wasn’t in a hospital, but in a school’s infirmary.
Outside the window was clearly a school building, and the tattered, filthy clothes on the zombies were recognizably school uniforms.
’A school that requires uniforms... definitely not a university.’
’How tragic. Don’t tell me all the teachers and students from an entire school turned into zombies?’
Seeing the dense horde outside, it was hard not to suspect as much.
’The future of our nation...’
’This whole world hasn’t been team-wiped, has it?’
Faye didn’t look any longer and instead began to carefully search the infirmary.
Rummaging through cabinets and drawers without making a sound was actually quite difficult.
As cautiously as a thief, she spotted a pair of rubber gloves. When she picked them up, the system gave no notification. To Faye, that was the best notification of all—it proved they were uncontaminated and safe to use.
So Faye didn’t hesitate to put on the gloves, and she stuffed the rest into her backpack as well.
When she touched the scalpels, scissors, and gauze, the system prompted that they were contaminated.
She found many medicines in a cabinet. Not minding the tedious work, Faye touched them one by one and discovered two boxes of uncontaminated, usable medicine. One box of cold medicine and one box of anti-inflammatories. Both were good finds, so she took them.
It was always a pleasure to find a good haul right at the start.
This encouraged her to search even more meticulously.
Unexpectedly, she found a small refrigerator under the medicine cabinet. Inside were medicines and vaccines that required cold storage.
After picking through them, she managed to harvest two uncontaminated rabies vaccines and a bottle of fever reducer.
Just as she was about to move and search another cabinet, the door was suddenly thrown open with a BANG.
Faye immediately dropped into a crouch, hiding in the corner between the exam bed and the medicine cabinet. She slowly shuffled under the bed and stealthily lifted the privacy curtain, only to be met by a pair of scarlet eyes. The shock sent her tumbling backward onto her butt.
RIIIIP!
The curtain was torn down by a claw. As it fell, Faye rolled out from under the exam bed, sprang to her feet, and drew her dagger. The instant the fabric hit the floor, her blade clashed with a hard claw.
’This zombie isn’t normal. It’s much stronger than the usual ones.’
HHHGGGH...
’Crap, it’s too close.’ Even with an exam bed between them, Faye felt like she would pass out from the putrid stench. She could clearly see off-white maggots wriggling in its open mouth.
’Yikes! It’s not just an eyesore, it even has a built-in poison gas attack!’
Its first swipe missing, the scarlet-eyed zombie stomped its feet, leaped onto the exam bed, and lunged at Faye.
Faye remained silent and calm. Raising her dagger with both hands in a block, she retreated two steps until her back hit the medicine cabinet. Then, twisting to the side, she used her momentum to bring the blade up in a diagonal slash from right to left, slicing open the zombie’s skin.
The zombie felt no pain from the gash. Instead, it countered with a knee strike while its claws shot toward Faye’s throat in a fearless, relentless attack.
"Ah! Sss—"
