Chapter 194: Chapter 194: Unexpected Reward
She was back on the raft, having cleared the dungeon in a daze.
[Congratulations, player, for completing clear conditions 2 and 3 of Dungeon 2. You have received the following rewards: All Attributes +1, 1x Happy Bat. You have obtained the hidden Title: Vampire Friend.]
Faye Yardley didn’t even have time to check her rewards before Willow Yardley was pulling her around, looking her over from every angle. "Sister, you’re back! This is great! You’ve been gone for over three days. Based on the time you spent in the last dungeon, I figured you’d be back this morning."
"Three whole days have passed? I left on the morning of the 14th, so it’s already the afternoon of the 17th?"
"Yeah. Do you want to go wash up first, Sister?"
"Okay."
Feeling clean and refreshed, she stepped out of the bathroom and went straight to the small balcony to check on her two little pets.
"Green Egg, Magic Plant, did you miss me? Were you starving these last couple of days?"
As she spoke, Faye Yardley took out a Light Energy Fragment and some petal dew, feeding each of them. She could clearly feel their delight; the egg jumped twice, and the plant’s leaves swayed frantically.
The plant that had sprouted from the Magic Seed was likely a vine. Faye Yardley hadn’t even placed a stake nearby for it to climb, but its slender stems and leaves were interwoven in a way that allowed it to grow upward on its own.
By now, it looked to be at least a meter tall.
As for how much longer it would need to grow, Faye Yardley had no idea, nor was she in any hurry. It was the same as the egg beside it; sometimes she even thought, ’It’s actually pretty nice like this. It’s not too much effort to take care of, either.’
After heading downstairs to the living room, Faye Yardley casually tossed two small dried fish to the little black cat, Blackwood, before finally taking a closer look at her dungeon rewards.
The boost to her Attributes brought Faye Yardley one step closer to the 30-point mark.
[Happy Bat: A bat that can elevate your mood. Placing it on the raft will bring you joy.]
So she claimed the bat right away. It naturally flew up to hang upside down from the awning under the eaves.
[Hidden Title—Vampire Friend: Automatically increases your initial standing with members of the Vampire Clan, making it easier to gain their help.]
’Not bad.’ This hidden Title didn’t even need to be equipped. Just like the damage bonus against the Necro-kin she’d gotten from Dungeon 1, it was a completely passive Skill that would activate whenever she ran into them.
’The rewards from Dungeon 2 were... well, they’re useful, but there isn’t a whole lot.’
’The risks didn’t seem proportional to the rewards.’
’It wasn’t nearly as motivating as killing zombies for points back in Dungeon 1.’
’And for a Dungeon like this, why was the first clear by a foreigner?’
Faye Yardley felt that at this level of danger, there was no reason people from her own country should lose out to foreigners.
’You could still clear it by just lying low and surviving.’
’Then again, maybe it’s easy for me to say. After all, not everyone is as lucky as I am.’
With maxed-out Luck and even more good fortune stacked on top of that, Faye Yardley felt she was practically invincible.
"Sister, have some watermelon juice." Willow Yardley handed her a glass. "Our brother and the others came back, but you weren’t here yet. I just got in touch with Rainie; Brother and his group left the raft and went into the sea."
"Okay, thanks."
Faye Yardley took a sip of the watermelon juice and sighed in contentment. "Ahh, this is amazing. My sense of taste is back."
The altered sense of taste in Dungeon 2 had turned eating into a painful ordeal.
She took another big gulp. She wasn’t worried about the watermelon being too "cooling" or anything, because hey, ever since she left the dungeon, she was all better.
It hadn’t come back since her shower.
’So, was that a special effect from the dungeon?’
’Or is my period just really short this month?’
’Whatever. It’s gone, and that’s a reason to celebrate.’
Aside from the official dungeon rewards, there were the other things she’d acquired inside.
Besides the money and the cell phone, she’d also gotten a Skeletal Horse.
That’s right. She had actually brought the Skeletal Horse out of the dungeon.
And what’s more, she’d brought it out as her mount.
At this thought, she set her watermelon juice down on the coffee table. "Willow, come on, I’ve got something cool to show you."
They went outside to an open area, and Faye Yardley summoned the Skeletal Horse from her Mount Storage. Oh, right, it had been upgraded to a Skeletal Warhorse now. She had no idea what Momo had fed it, but it had leveled up, and then she’d been able to form a contract with it and take it away.
The moment the Skeletal Warhorse appeared, it drew not only a gasp of awe from Willow Yardley but also a server-wide announcement from the system.
[Server-Wide Announcement: Congratulations to Veridia player Faye Yardley for taming the Skeletal Warhorse and unlocking the Mount System. As the first player to acquire a mount, she is hereby rewarded with Free Attribute Points +2 and Reputation +1000.] x3
The dazzling, pinned announcement, complete with golden fireworks, repeated three times, leaving even Faye Yardley herself stunned.
’Wait, why wasn’t there an option to be anonymous this time?’
’What gives it the right to just strip me of my choice to remain anonymous?!’
’What’s the use of fame?’
’Around here, besides becoming a topic of gossip and attracting everyone’s envy, jealousy, and hatred, it’s completely useless.’
’I’m not trying to build a team or a guild, and I have no intention of attracting any talent.’
’Damn it!’
’System, have you stopped loving me?’
RING RING RING~
Faye Yardley sighed and patted the Skeletal Warhorse’s skull. "From now on, this is your home. Go on, look around and find a place you like."
As expected, her online friends immediately started blowing up her chat with congratulations.
’Does Logan Langdon have this much free time?’
’He was actually the first one to call.’
After a moment’s thought, she declined the call and sent a message instead: Sorry, busy right now. If you’re just congratulating me, then thanks. If you want to know how I tamed it, it was a chance encounter in Dungeon 2. You’ll have to try your own luck if you want one. [Attached Image: Skeletal_Warhorse.jpg]
Faye Yardley had a good idea of what he wanted to know anyway, and at this point, there was nothing to hide.
She forwarded the photo to her private group chat, which immediately erupted with sounds of amazement. The expected flood of envious praise began to pour in.
Bonnie Callahan: That’s my girl! How are you so amazing! A pro in our midst!
Wade Warren: Suddenly I feel so weak, helpless, and pitiful in this group.jpg
Gavin Donovan: Boss, you’re awesome!
Kyle Lewis: Miss Yardley is a badass!
Zephyr Sterling: Yardley, where’d you get that? Its bones look like they’re carved from white jade.
Faye Yardley: Thanks for the compliments, everyone. I got it by accident in Dungeon 2. My experience can’t be replicated; I already cleared the one-time storyline for it.
Wade Warren: You started the Mount System, though. Now that it exists, the difficulty of getting one should drop significantly for everyone else.
Bonnie Callahan: Mr. Warren is right! Honey, you’ve brought blessings to us all!
Faye Yardley: It’s not that dramatic. It was a pleasant surprise for me, too.
Ethan Yardley: That’s my sister, all right. Amazing.
’Oh, my brother’s back.’
Faye Yardley immediately called him, and he picked up right away.
"Brother, did you pass the guild qualification trial?"
Ethan Yardley’s voice was full of pride. "Don’t you know whose brother I am? Of course I passed."
"Amazing, amazing! That’s my brother, all right! Your skills are top-notch. In that case, let me give you another boost. Don’t forget to accept the Red Envelope."
