Chapter 110: Chapter 110: Damn it! Who Wants to Kill Me?
Hailey Miles was all too familiar with that gaze, filled with malice and hatred. She had seen those same eyes in her last nightmare.
Beneath her mask, the corners of Faye Yardley’s lips curled up slightly. Without another word, she raised her blade and charged.
A Basic Long Blade appeared in Xavier Thatcher’s hand as well.
CLANG!
SNAP~
He had only managed to block once, but the long blade in Xavier Thatcher’s hand was shattered by a single strike from Light Wound.
"Friend, wait a moment! Whatever the issue is, we can sit down and talk about it. Maybe there’s some misunderstanding between you and Hailey."
Faye Yardley completely ignored him. With an agile dodge, she bypassed his attempt to block and once again swung her blade at Hailey Miles, whose face had already drained of all color.
Xavier Thatcher spun around, swinging a long spear to intercept.
But it was as if Faye Yardley had eyes in the back of her head. She not only dodged his attack but also moved even closer to Hailey Miles.
As Hailey watched in terror, a blade appeared in her chest.
SQUELCH~
She thought she heard the sound of the blade entering her chest.
"Why?"
She heard her own voice, but the other person offered no reply.
Faye Yardley hadn’t just stabbed her through the heart; she gripped the hilt and gave it a vicious twist. As Xavier Thatcher lunged at her, she used Hailey Miles’s body as a foothold and kicked off. The blade pulled free from Hailey’s chest with a spray of blood. Faye rolled to the side, sprang to her feet, and took a defensive stance, her eyes fixed on the man now cradling the woman.
"Hailey, Hailey, you’re going to be okay." Xavier Thatcher fed Hailey Miles a Hemostatic Pill and applied a Bandage to her chest. He gently laid her down on the raft, then turned to glare viciously at Faye Yardley. "You look so young. What kind of blood feud could you possibly have that you must see her dead?" fгee𝑤ebɳoveɭ.cøm
Faye Yardley let out a soft, cold laugh. She raised her blade and charged at them again.
As long as she didn’t hear the system prompt announcing a successful invasion, she refused to believe Hailey Miles was dead.
Xavier Thatcher had rarely encountered a young woman so obstinate and unreasonable, one who would try to kill at the slightest provocation and refuse all communication.
The spear thrust toward Faye Yardley. But in her eyes, besides his Strength, which was decent, his technique was practically nonexistent. Dodging his attacks was ridiculously easy for her.
If she weren’t trying to avoid killing an innocent, taking out Xavier Thatcher directly would have been faster than just dodging him.
She didn’t want to waste a single word. It was a bit more troublesome, but it didn’t affect Faye Yardley’s determination to kill Hailey Miles in the slightest.
Xavier Thatcher had realized it long ago. The young woman before him was highly skilled, and her weapon was exceptionally sharp and durable. His own blade hadn’t even survived a single strike.
Just as his attempt to block failed, he turned to see another deep gash sliced across Hailey Miles, whose wound had just stopped bleeding. Xavier Thatcher was about to lose his mind.
The murderer was killing someone right in front of him, and he was powerless to stop her. The feeling was worse than death. He charged straight at Faye Yardley.
As expected, she dodged again.
But as Faye Yardley did a backflip to evade the charging Xavier Thatcher, another wound appeared on Hailey Miles.
Faye was getting annoyed. Without even pausing to gather power, she swung her blade directly at Hailey Miles’s neck. Xavier Thatcher made a flying leap, taking the brunt of the attack on his own body. Even so, Hailey’s neck was slashed open. Blood gushed from the wound, and her body began to convulse.
At this point, Xavier Thatcher himself was gasping for his last breaths and was in no condition to worry about Hailey Miles.
He could only watch helplessly as Faye Yardley approached step by step, kicked him aside, and then raised her blade with both hands, holding it vertically over Hailey Miles. Just as she was about to plunge it down, the invasion time ran out. The system didn’t even grant her an extra second before teleporting her back to her own raft.
"Dammit!"
’I’m still too soft,’ Faye Yardley thought. ’I was too hesitant. If I had just killed Xavier Thatcher, Hailey Miles would be dead beyond a doubt.’
Now, she couldn’t even be sure if Hailey was dead or not.
’Logically, she should have died the first time I stabbed her in the heart and twisted the blade. But I never heard the system notification.’
’Then her neck was gushing blood. She should have died then, too. But still no feedback about a successful invasion.’
’What in the world is going on?’
’Could Hailey Miles be one of The Undying?!’
’How is she not dead after all that?’
Xavier Thatcher was already half-dead after taking just one of her blows.
Back in her thatched hut, Faye Yardley couldn’t wrap her head around how many treasures Hailey Miles must have to keep her alive.
Too much time was being wasted waiting. She was so frustrated.
She didn’t know if her luck with killing was just terrible, or if Hailey Miles’s luck was just too good.
Faye Yardley returned to her room, her face expressionless, and took a long, hard shower.
She didn’t just wash herself; she gave Light Wound a thorough cleaning as well.
She tossed her old clothes directly into the Small Garbage Recycling Bin.
After washing away all the bad juju, Faye Yardley felt much better.
’Failing once or twice doesn’t mean anything.’
’Come to think of it, I stabbed her in the heart twice and she didn’t die either time. Did I get the direction wrong?’
’Is her heart on the right side, different from a normal person?’
Faye Yardley seriously considered this possibility.
When she went downstairs, Willow Yardley sensitively perceived that her mood had improved significantly.
"Sister, would you like to sit on the swing chair and have some tea? The roses on the balcony just bloomed."
"Okay."
Faye Yardley went straight to the balcony. Sure enough, the bright red roses were in full, gorgeous bloom, exuding a sweet, delicate fragrance.
She took the ice-cold fruit tea from Willow Yardley and sat on the swing chair, rocking gently.
Sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling glass, falling upon the roses. With the cool air conditioning inside and a glass of iced fruit tea in hand, life could be quite pleasant.
As she swayed back and forth, Faye Yardley’s state of mind gradually became peaceful.
She opened the regional chat. As expected, the channel was as lively as ever.
[It’s so hot. Fishing directly under the sun, I can feel my skin burning. Hope it doesn’t peel tonight.]
[Umbrellas. I used to scoff at them, but now I can’t even afford one.]
[Crates, crates... If one doesn’t show up soon, I’m going to starve to death.]
[Hailey Miles: Does anyone know who’s trying to kill me? If you provide reliable and true information, you can ask me for food and water.] x3
Seeing Hailey Miles’s three consecutive messages, Faye Yardley raised an eyebrow and sneered. ’So she really isn’t dead.’
She ignored it. She wasn’t afraid of being called out, nor would she admit to it herself. Anyway, there would always be another chance to meet.
[Phoebe Pierce: Hailey, someone’s trying to kill you? But we’re all on our own rafts out here. It’s hard enough to even run into another person. How could someone even get to you to kill you?]
[Bonnie Callahan: Maybe she’s just paranoid. Stay on a raft alone for long enough and your Spirit is bound to take a hit.]
Reading Bonnie Callahan’s words, Faye Yardley couldn’t help but let out a low, soft laugh.
