Chapter 308: The Scholar

"Can you tell me how you will help our land fight against the Northern Continent?"

"How did you know that the Northern Continent is the enemy in this war?" Lucas asked with a suspicious tone, although he already knew the answer, he just wanted to make sure of it.

"I already thought of it. In the past, the Northern Continent has shown a strong motive to kill other leaders of other continents just to win the legacy. So, I thought that the Northern Continent was the enemy, even though I still haven’t experienced it. Was I wrong perhaps?"

Lucas shook his head and showed acceptance to the Scholar. "You are right, the Northern Continent is the enemy in this war. You know, I think that your existence on this continent was put in the wrong place. Your mind is helpful, to be precise. Who is your master?"

"I don’t have any master. Instead, I just used all the things that I learned about Mind Cultivation and derived my current cultivation from it."

Lucas nodded simultaneously as he showed how amused he was by the Scholar’s dedication.

"So Mind Cultivation... I guess that is your asset... Returning to the topic at hand, you inquired as to how I would assist the Southern Continent from the Northern Continent. Easy... I just need to combine our lands. Despite some differences in governance with the Eastern Continent, having easy access to both continents will benefit both. Having good transport will strengthen the defense of both continents. Just think of it as an alliance but not entirely an alliance since I hold the two continents in my hands."

The Scholar contemplated for a few seconds and then smiled as he reached the end of his thoughts. He then raised a thumb at him.

"I am interested. That is the best thing that I have heard. But, I think I don’t need to suspect your real identity since you have already been honest with me."

"Honest? How can you tell that I am honest?"

"Thinking? By reading the muscles in your face, I can tell if you are really lying, and it turned out that you were not lying to me. I am confident that you are really the owner of the Eastern Continent and now the master of the Southern Continent. It is a relief, really a relief."

Lucas couldn’t help but chuckle. He had been enjoying his talk with the Scholar, and he had never had one like this since he came into this world. Not belittling the topics he had with most of the people he had been with, it was just that he hadn’t had one that made sense and that piqued his interest. freёwebnoѵel.com

Nonetheless, it was still time to be serious and not get distracted by his emotions.

"By the way, I am still curious. How can you say that the red sky is harmless? What do you know about the red sky?"

As Lucas asked that, the smile on the face of the Scholar disappeared. He became serious and looked up after sitting down on a huge rock by their side. Then, Lucas followed him, sat down at another huge stone, and prepared himself to listen to what the Scholar would say.

"Do you know the exempted divine beasts?"

Lucas nodded.

"Then, the reason for the red sky was that. There are different things that happen when a divine beast is in hibernation. Mostly, it causes a weird phenomenon because of the Qi they release when they hibernate, but what is most noticeable is when they wake up from hibernation. That red sky, it is the phenomenon the divine beast of the Southern Continent creates."

Divine beasts are indeed powerful creatures, not just because they stand above humans in the hierarchy of life in this world. Even after just being born, they already had a high amount of QI in their bodies, almost making cultivation a joke to humans since humans should start from zero. However, despite their superiority in Qi, they were not superior to humans in controlling the land since they didn’t have that much of a high fertility rate. Humans still prosper, and they become a threat to divine beasts.

In this case, however, the divine beast in the Southern Continent caused the red sky as a result of its hibernation and awakening. For some reason, the divine beast should not go to hibernation. However, because the divine beast didn’t coordinate with the humans, it went to hibernate just to be unaware of the flow of time. Divine beasts also had longevity above humans, and because of this, they could live for thousands of years.

"The Divine Beast in the Southern Continent won’t cooperate with humans here? Wait... that could be also the reason why the cultivation in this continent and their capabilities continued to downgrade. Without the guidance of a creature that lived long, it is already obvious that they would go on a different path."

The Scholar sighed. "That is what is happening now, Lucas. And just as I am afraid of, after the red sky, the Feathered Serpent might attack the people in the Southern Continent in retribution for what the previous masters of the Southern Continent did to her."

"The Feathered Serpent...? And she is also a female... That is quite problematic. I read somewhere in the past that female serpent-origin magical beasts are hostile to humans, but they are negotiable. But, for that to happen, just waking up from deep slumber, did something happen in the past?"

"I am not sure about this... but they tried to control the Feathered Serpent, and even injured her, which made her hibernate. It was only a legend that only scholars knew, so I don’t know anything else about its credibility."

Lucas sighed. He had already realized that after closing a deal with the 11 Elders, he should face the divine beast that could really threaten the people on the continent. He should not just be careful while the Northern Continent was advancing; he also should keep in mind the divine beast’s safety for him to recruit it to their side.

"So why were you telling the expedition to stop?"

"It is because the expedition team might awaken the Feathered Serpent."

"So... it was your warning to stop it from happening. But, how did it go? They died, and you should have talked with the 11 Elders. Why did you not persuade them? You can think fast, right? By the way, I am not blaming you for their deaths; they are just stupid." Lucas snickered after saying. He was true to his word, and the Scholar laughed at how funny he was.

"I can’t talk to them about that matter. Even after how much persuasion I made, they still don’t believe me. I have limitations as well, and it turned out my limitations reached the point where I could no longer talk to them. Their egos were just too thick, and I couldn’t pass through them. It was hard." In frustration, the Scholar sighed and shook his head.

Lucas then understood it. It was really true that the 11 Elders were too egoistic, that they forgot the whole definition of their responsibility.

"I understand your flaws. You should not shoulder the whole burden the continent has. At least now that I am here, I am willing to protect this land and everyone on it. And I would need your help."

There was as if a flash hit the Scholar that he understood what Lucas wanted to happen. He smiled, then stood up from his seat, but it didn’t do much since he was still short.

"Not only my help though, but also the 11 Elders’ help. They can have the people obey their words, while I will share any idea that can support your plan. So, Senior Master Lucas... since it is what you are called in your land. How should we start?"

Lucas had already devised a plan. Just after he discovered and understood the things that were happening, although not perfectly, he shared everything with the Scholar, and he also gave a thought about his plan. They strengthened the plan, and just as the sun rested, Lucas was now in his inn room, sitting while contemplating what he should do when the Northern Continent attacked.

"Dealing with the Northern Continent was not part of our plan, so I should study them more. However, because I only have limited access to their information, mostly through my disciples and puppets, I need to devise a backup plan that will work even if I don’t know who they are or what they can do. Lucas sighed in frustration and thought about the limitations he had been burdened with.

"This fucking karmic points. If not for the existence of that bastard, God of Magic, I won’t destroy my core and I won’t be burdened by the karma he got from killing indiscriminately those people. If only he didn’t exist, I would have easily defeated the Northern Continent now with my light balls... But, it is just impossible. I couldn’t even create them to kill people... It is now useless if I don’t erase these karmic points back to zero or just a small number... Fuck."
