Chapter 147: Chapter 147: Planning to Hire
Yun Zijin and Qin Sitong did their best to look away. For two single women, the display was a little too much to handle.
Fortunately, other customers arrived soon after. Qin Sitong handled everything, leaving Yun Zijin with basically nothing to do behind the counter.
But Qin Sitong was only one person, and when the crowd grew, she started to get overwhelmed.
Since the customers who came in later didn’t order Wangyou Milk Tea, the only thing Yun Zijin could do was take over greeting customers and taking their orders.
The shop’s customer traffic peaked after Ling Qi went out and came back with a sign advertising a grand opening 20% discount.
After taking orders for over an hour straight, Yun Zijin’s voice grew hoarse. This solidified her resolve to have Qin Sitong hire two more employees.
After 5 p.m., the crowd gradually thinned out, and Yun Zijin finally found a chance to talk to Qin Sitong.
"About what I said before, about hiring one or two employees in advance... even if you disagree, I’m hiring them.
Today is the first day of the grand opening, and I’m here with you. But I can only help you out until the three-day trial period ends.
When it gets busy then, if you’re by yourself, you’ll be able to take orders but not make the drinks. Even with Wangyou Milk Tea as our signature item, the shop probably won’t last long like that."
Customers might be forgiving the first time, but if it’s like this every day, they’ll definitely start to complain.
And those complaints will lead to customers abandoning us for other milk tea shops.
Without customers, it doesn’t matter how delicious or special our milk tea is. It’ll all be for nothing.
"You’re right. I’ll make it a priority. I’ll go home and write up a job posting after we close today."
Qin Sitong had originally thought, ’How tiring can making milk tea be? It’s just a matter of using your hands.’
But after today’s rush, she finally understood the hardships faced by employees at milk tea shops that were constantly packed with customers.
"Let’s hire two more people, then. The shop needs to be open at night, too. Four people will make it easier to schedule shifts."
Two for the morning shift, two for the evening shift.
Qin Sitong, on the other hand, would have a flexible schedule. She’d be here when she had time and stay away when she had classes or other commitments.
And if neither she nor Yun Zijin was there, anyone wanting to order a Wangyou Milk Tea would just be out of luck.
"Isn’t hiring four people at once a bit hasty? Why don’t we hire two first? That seems safer."
The difference between paying wages for four people and two people is huge.
"Do you really think our shop can’t even make enough to cover the wages for four people?
Even if we can’t, this shop isn’t just yours. I’m here to back you up, so don’t worry!"
Yun Zijin didn’t think hiring four people was hasty at all.
"But I’m the one managing this shop. If it gets to the point where you have to pay the employees’ wages, then I’d be completely useless."
Yun Zijin had already given her such great terms; if she still had to make Yun Zijin pay the staff’s wages, Qin Sitong would be too ashamed to keep the shop running.
"Then work hard! Earn enough to pay the employees’ wages, and then earn enough for an apartment in Dijing!
You can move into the city, or buy a place in a neighborhood near our shop. It’ll make your commute more convenient."
Although Qin Sitong was a Dijing native, her family’s home wasn’t very big. With four people, each getting their own bedroom, it was just barely big enough for now.
But once her brother got married and had kids, if they didn’t buy their own place, the house would become too crowded.
"Buy an apartment? Easier said than done. With all the purchasing restrictions, who knows when I’ll ever be eligible to buy."
Buying an apartment in Dijing was something Qin Sitong had never even dared to dream of before.
Yun Zijin didn’t respond this time. All her shops and properties had been taken care of by Randomly Spend.
She had no idea what the eligibility requirements for buying property in Dijing were.
"We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. Right now, we’re talking about hiring people. We’ve gotten sidetracked."
Yun Zijin quickly steered the conversation back on topic.
"Right, hiring! I still think hiring four people at once is a little too hasty.
The crowd today was because of the 20% discount. Once the promotion is over, it won’t be this busy."
It’s human nature to flock to a spectacle. Once the hype dies down in a couple of days, the crowds will thin out.
Because Qin Sitong insisted, the two ultimately decided to hire two people first and see how things went. If they were still overwhelmed after three days, they would hire two more.
On the first day of their trial opening, the two closed up shop at six in the evening. They were only human, after all, and needed to eat.
"Since it’s our first day in business, let’s go to Liuxian Pavilion to eat, shall we? As a celebration."
It was a Hua Country cuisine restaurant opened by a friend of Lu Yunque’s, who, because he traveled abroad so often, didn’t like foreign food.
Eventually, he started opening a restaurant in every new place he went to, and over time, it became a global chain.
’It has to be said, rich people’s friends are rich people too.’
She had eaten there once with Lu Yunque, and to this day, Yun Zijin still couldn’t forget Liuxian Pavilion’s "Buddha Jumps Over the Wall" soup.
"Liuxian Pavilion?"
"Don’t worry. Seeing as you’re still in the startup phase, this meal’s on me!"
Yun Zijin pulled Qin Sitong into the car, started the engine, and hit the gas, all in one smooth motion.
What the two of them didn’t see was that the moment they left, someone came rushing toward their Wangyou Milk Tea Shop.
But to his surprise, the place was already empty and locked up.
Staring at the closed doors, the light in the man’s eyes dimmed. "How could it be closed already? Did I just imagine the milk tea I bought earlier?"
*
Meanwhile, the two owners of the Wangyou Milk Tea Shop had already arrived at Liuxian Pavilion.
Because she had been there with Lu Yunque before, everyone at Liuxian Pavilion, from the front desk staff to the waiters, was exceptionally friendly toward Yun Zijin.
Even when Yun Zijin wanted a private room on short notice, the manager of Liuxian Pavilion personally came out to make arrangements for her.
And once Yun Zijin and Qin Sitong were settled in their private room, Lu Yunque received a firsthand report from the manager of Liuxian Pavilion.
However, he only told Lu Yunque that Yun Zijin had come to Liuxian Pavilion for dinner, and nothing more.
Just revealing this much was already a breach of professional ethics, but who could say no when President Xiao Lu was friends with their boss? A little preferential treatment was to be expected.
Lu Yunque stared at the message from the Liuxian Pavilion manager on his phone, feeling hesitant for a moment.
None of this had anything to do with Yun Zijin, however. She and Qin Sitong were busy ordering their favorite dishes.
"I’ve heard people talk about this place. They say you have to book a private room in advance!
I always thought this place must be ridiculously expensive! I never imagined I’d get the chance to eat here one day."
As she said this, Qin Sitong looked at Yun Zijin. She knew she was only having this experience thanks to Yun Zijin’s connections.
"The owner of this restaurant is a friend of the Lu Family’s president. I came here with him once before, and every single dish was delicious."
They had ordered so much that day, and Yun Zijin had tried every dish without a single disappointment.
"In that case, I’d better savor it. Who knows when I’ll get to eat here again."
Qin Sitong knew full well that without Yun Zijin, there was no way they would have gotten a private room by just showing up without a reservation.
