Chapter 99: Chapter 93: Experiment

In these five years, Zeke experienced genuine fun. He was happy, even when one of his theories didn’t work. Of course, there were times when he was extremely frustrated, but those were a minority.

[Wow, you think that minorities don’t matter?]

(You know that’s not what I said.)

[We all understand what you mean. ;) ]

Anyways, when he needed a break, he went to the library that the Demonic Scribe had created to browse through cultivation techniques and deduce more runes.

Right now, Zeke stared at a brown seed that resembled an avocado pit. Only he knew how amazing this seemingly ordinary seed was. When he had been researching the properties of the plants, he had discovered that a big reason they were able to absorb natural energy was because they had a common factor: extreme adaptability.

Natural energy was similar to the atmospheric mana in the main world. It was a mix of multiple attributes. Any normal being who absorbed great amounts of plain natural energy would simply burst apart due to the different elements clashing.

That’s why humans used internal arrays in the form of cultivation techniques. Spirit Beasts also used their bloodlines as filters. Stronger bloodlines even had innate cultivation techniques that only they could use. That is why these plants were so special. If they could adapt to clashing elements, they could surely adapt to Faith, right?

Wrong. It wasn’t as simple as it sounded. No matter how much they clashed, the different elements were variations of the same thing: unattributed natural energy. Faith, on the other hand, was a whole different beast.

Even with its properties, it took three whole years for him to see some actual results. After three years of constantly pumping Faith and destroying about 68 very precious plants, he was finally left with nine plants that could handle Faith. Now, he just had to give them the ability to absorb it.

That was easy. Okay, it wasn’t easy per se, but it was something that Zeke had a lot of experience doing. It was similar to the experiments he and Leonel had done on the Angels and the Demons when they were trying out ideas for the Supreme Conduit Codex.

He had to engrave the Totem into the plants. And he had to fit as many Totems as possible. He realized that he needed to engrave micro Totems on the very cells of the plants.

He used Faith as the ink and began. It was very delicate work where even a tiny mistake could result in failure. Thankfully, he was able to practice in his mind realm before actually doing it on the plants.

It took him a whole year since it required so much of his focus. The only reason he was even able to handle Faith with such finesse was because of his EX Grade Will.

Then, he grafted the ten plants and used the Innate Skill: Phoenix Resurgence to make sure that they became one. He had access to a few of his Innate Skills when he was in his Asuran form.

The tree quickly grew with the help of multiple arrays, and a single flower bloomed on it. The flower turned into a fruit, and once the fruit had ripened, the tree withered.

Zeke ate the fruit. It wasn’t anything special except for the fact that it contained natural energy in abundance. The seed, however, was extremely special.

If not for the fact that Zeke had immediately sealed it with a combination of more than a dozen arrays, it would have germinated by absorbing Faith. Hence, the ordinary appearance. freēwēbηovel.c૦m

It was a good thing that the seed was working as intended, but one thing was still left before he could let it do what it wanted. He still needed to awaken it. Thankfully, he had a lot of vengeful spirits.

Three years into his retreat, the Emperor died of a mysterious illness, and the Ninth Prince ascended to the throne with the support of a majority of the ministers. At least, this was the story that was spread.

They had used one of the new poisons from the Poison Hall to kill the Emperor. The Crown Prince ascended to the throne only to be killed in a coup by the seemingly harmless Ninth Prince. All opposition was silenced either by blackmail or murder. frёeweɓηovel.coɱ

Zeke had successfully taken over one of the three enemy factions, just like that, without anyone’s knowledge.

He transformed into his Asuran form, and a golden fire with hints of purple appeared on his palm. This time, though, he didn’t need to absorb them into his mind realm.

Dense black smoke started wafting out of the vengeful spirits as soon as they touched the fire. They screeched in pain as they were refined and purified. His horns absorbed the resentment, which took the form of the black smoke.

Soon, he was left with pure soul substances. His eyes grew determined as he tore a small piece of his own soul and added it to the pure soul substances. The fire was still burning, but now it contained a hint of crystalline green. The pure soul substances and the piece of his soul started merging and growing until only a pure soul was left.

Zeke tattooed the Totem on the soul with Faith before healing it and repeated the cycle until he was sure that the Totem had become one with it. He brought the soul close to the seed, and the seed absorbed it eagerly. It was as if they were made to be one. Well, they were... but still.

Anyways, with the preparation complete, he brought the seed to the very center of the Cult. He had drawn a large Totem on the ground with blood he had drawn from himself in his Asuran Form. But the Totem wasn’t complete. He buried the seed in the center of the Totem.

He took out a vial with a single drop of blood in it.

He said, "Mammoth Head had better not have tricked me. If this drop of Blood from Myriad Beasts doesn’t work, then our deal’s off."

He poured the drop at the one point where the Totem wasn’t complete. Then, he unsealed the seed.
