Chapter 98: Chapter 92: Flaw

The Heavenly Demon paused for a second and then left, as if he hadn’t heard anything. Zeke didn’t care much; he had done his job by warning him.

A week passed, and Wanderer, who had left to procure the targets, returned. During that time, he had ensured that everything was taken care of. The Cult would function exactly as he intended, even if he wasn’t there.

He didn’t have to do much because even the Heavenly Demons of the past were rarely personally involved in the workings of the Cult. They delegated the work to the Demon Monarchs under them, who took care of it. This gave Zeke the time to focus on research.

Right now, Zeke was standing in a room covered in formations. In front of him were ten...plants. The targets were not people; they were plants. Zeke had sent a Demon Monarch, one of the top powerhouses in all of Murim, to get plants. That’s how important this experiment was to him.

Recently, he had been reviewing OFSO to make sure that there weren’t any contingencies and inconsistencies in the plan. Unfortunately, there were many. The minor ones had been resolved, but there was one problem remaining—one huge problem, something that could cause everything to go to waste.

There were two major milestones in OFSO. First, he needed to gather FAITH. A lot of it. Second, he needed to use that Faith to get his revenge against the System. What he hadn’t considered before was that even with the Totem, the Faith in Murim was too scattered.

This could be solved in one of two ways: either by somehow summoning his true body here, or by creating a huge antenna to concentrate it in one place. His true body had the original Totem, carved by the System itself, so it would have been enough.

Unfortunately for him, the same System made it impossible for him to summon it to Murim. So, he had no choice but to choose the alternative: building a huge antenna.

He had thought a lot about how he could do that. He knew that there wasn’t any technology that could even sense Faith, much less make use of it. So, he had to turn to his inner weeb like he had once before while designing the Supreme Conduit Codex.

He went through all of the different mythologies, legends, and stories he knew. While doing that, something resonated with him: Yggdrasil, the sacred world tree in Norse mythology that contained the cosmos.

He wanted to replicate that. Of course, he knew it was impossible for him to create a tree that could contain an entire cosmos, even at his peak in the main world, but the thing was, he didn’t need to.

He just needed to create a tree that could attract and concentrate the scattered Faith in one place. He wanted to achieve one more thing with this: he wanted to infuse this world with the Faith.

That’s why he had the Demonic Physician make a list of all plants that had the innate ability to absorb natural energy. Then, he had the Wanderer locate the ones he could.

He wanted to create what he needed by genetically engineering these trees.

One might think it was impossible to do so with the technology—or lack thereof—in Murim, but that’s where FAITH came in. Its properties leaned towards creation and mental manipulation.

Of course, it would be impossible to brainwash a plant, but everything would change if he were to awaken it, similar to what he had done with Yeomra.

For that, he needed to contact his people in the Imperial Palace. He was going to smuggle death row prisoners and torture them until he got enough vengeful souls. It was going to be a long process, as he still didn’t have complete control, but it was fine.

He needed to first create the seed of a bootleg Yggdrasil.

He thought, ’When was the last time I had the time to focus on an experiment wholeheartedly? The Supreme Conduit Codex? But it was too short. I feel strangely excited.’

The scientist in him, who had gotten bored, was finally beginning to wake up—to truly wake up. Everything new he had researched until now was just him doing what was necessary. It wasn’t that he wasn’t giving his best—he was—but a part of him was nearly dead: his curiosity.

But even the thought of experimenting with an energy he didn’t even know existed in his other life was reviving it.

He went outside the room and to the old man’s chambers. The old man was inside, doing the obvious—drinking.

Zeke walked inside, and the old man said, "Surely the Heavenly Demon has the courtesy to knock before entering?"

Zeke said, "Why would I knock? It’s my property."

The old man was speechless.

He said, "Just tell me why you’re here."

Zeke said, "I’m going into seclusion."

The old man said, "What good would it do? You’re already at the peak of the Ultimate Demon realm."

Zeke sighed and said, "This mentality is the reason that the likes of Mammoth Head are stronger than you. But never mind that. You’re in charge until I come out. Do not disturb me unless the Righteous Alliance suddenly bombs this place."

Zeke left without waiting for a reply. fгeewebnovёl.com

The old man muttered, "Although he is an ass, there is no doubt that he is a perfect Heavenly Demon." frёewebnoѵēl.com

Zeke returned to the room. He scanned the plants with his mental sense and entered his mind realm. Ten projections appeared before him. He chose one of the plants at random and got to work.

He went layer by layer, examining its properties one at a time. He created a notebook, and text started appearing in it. It was totally unnecessary, but he liked it.

As he continued his examination, the notebook became thicker and thicker before it split in two. Then he moved on to the next plant. As he was examining and experimenting, time started slipping by.

He didn’t need much sleep or food, so he researched continuously. And before he realized it, five years had passed by.
