Chapter 22: Chapter 22: A Tough Choice and Drastic Measures
Just then, he recieved a call from Katherine. She was calling to tell them to come to the house. She and Alexi had some news to share. He told this to Leonel and they decided to take a short break. They cleaned up a little, changed their clothes, and went to the house. Alexi, Katherine, and Cass were waiting for them.
Although it had only been an year since Leonel had known them, he had come to consider them as his family. He first approached Katherine, and infused some Life attributed mana into her body. Katherine didn’t exactly need it, but it was good for her and the baby. Just then, he found something very surprising and started smiling. He then winked at her and retreated.
"Thanks, Uncle Leo."
"Just call me anytime you want one."
This time Zeke asked, "So, what happened?"
"We have some news to share. We wanted to tell you before but you guys were very busy and we didn’t want to disturb you."
"Wait, you’re scaring me. Are you fine? Is the baby fine?"
Then he looked at Leonel. The man had just given Katherine a mana infusion so he should know if anything was wrong. Even Cass was looking at her worriedly.
Katherine was happy that the boys cared so much about her and tears filled her eyes. This scared the boys even more.
"Nothing is wrong. I and the babies are fine."
"Oh thank god. I was worri-"
Zeke paused in the middle of his sentence and looked at her dumbfoundely.
"B-b-babies? As in multiple babies?"
"Yup. We’re having twins."
"Oh...we’re having twins."
"..."
"WE’RE HAVING TWINS."
The boys shouted together. They hugged each other which then turned into a group hug. It looked like they were happier than even Katherine. After they calmed down a little, Zeke looked at Cass. Coincidentally, Cass was also looking at him. With just a look, they were able to convey their thoughts. Cass took the lead and said, "Aunt Kat, we were thinking something."
"What?"
"You know about our Primogenitor’s Blood skill, right?"
"Yeah."
"We want to use it on the babies. But only if you want us to."
"Cass is right. We want the babies to be the first Neo-Nephilims. But we will understand if you don’t want us to do so. We’re a new Race and haven’t even figured our own abilities out. So it is totally understandable if you don’t want us to. We just wanted you to know that the offer is available."
Katherine was surprised by the offer. it was something that she hadn’t even considered. She felt that she would break the boys’ hearts if she refused but with just a look, she could tell that it didn’t matter what she chose. The boys would wholeheartedly support her.
"This...Thank you for the offer. I need to think about it. I love you boys."
Alexi hugged her from behind with a pout on his face.
"Only them?"
"No, I love Uncle Leo too."
"What about me? Do you love me too?"
"Nope. I just tolerate you."
Everybody was speechless for a moment before they burst into laughter. After that, Alexi took her to the bedroom so that she could rest. Meanwhile, Zeke, Cass, and Leonel headed back to the lab. What nobody realised was that Zeke’s eyes had become resolute as if he had decided on something.
After they reached the lab, Zeke said, "Guys, we need to talk."
Cass slapped his forehead and asked, "What now?"
"Hey! What’s with that reaction?"
"It’s because every time you start a conversation with ’We need to talk.’, you either tell us another secret or you have some crazy plan. This time, I’m assuming it’s related to the babies. So which is it?"
[Idiot Cass. He didn’t have to be so direct.]
"He is right, you know. There aren’t many things that scare me but when you start a conversation the sentence ’We need to talk’, even I get the chills. And they call me the Madman. If I am a madman, I wonder what they would call you. Batshit Prodigy? Lunatic Genius?"
Leonel looked as if he was genuinely thinking about Zeke’s future monicker.
[Honestly, nobody was on my side. They were obviously jealous of my genius.]
"It is no-"
Cass interrupted him before he could finish his sentence.
"Am I wrong?"
"Yes, you are."
"So you don’t have a crazy plan or info that you want to tell us?"
"I meeean, it is not related to the babies."
"Really?"
"Not exactly. But I do have a plan."
"So I was right?"
"Grrr. Fine! You were right. Now listen to me."
"I couldn’t hear that. Could you repeat that?"
"You were right."
"Huh?"
"I SAID YOU WERE RIGHT DAMNIT. Now listen to me. This is important. And it will help the babies if Aunt Kat allows us to turn the babies. But, we need to succeed before that."
"Go ahead."
"So I was thinking, what if we create the technique before we turn them? We’re the Primogenitors and the technique will change our bodies. Maybe it could be inherited?"
"Like an Innate Skill?"
"No, more like a Racial Trait."
"Interesting train of thought you have there. But, we need to complete the technique before that and as we stand now, that’s impossible."
Leonel was truly intrigued by this idea. Usually passing down a technique like this would be impossible unless one was an EX Grade lifeform, even then it would be very difficult. But the boys’ situation was different. First of all, they were Primogenitors. Second, they hadn’t turned anyone yet. Third, the technique, if succeeded would become a part of their bodies, another system like the nervous and digestive systems, but responsible for mana instead. So, theoretically speaking, if they were able to complete the technique before Katherine made her choice, the babies should be able to inherit the technique.
"I have an idea for the technique."
"What?"
"I will activate Insatiable Thirst."
"You what? Are you crazy? You do understand the consequences of that, right? And it won’t even help in this case. It won’t give you the knowledge you need."
"I have a plan. I’ll activate Battle Machine and Insatiable Thirst at the same time. When the trait turns off my inhibitions, my thought process will be freed of its current restrictions and evolve. Battle Machine will allow me to think objectively. So, for a minute or so I will become a supercomputer capable of deducing the technique at an insane speed. Of course, there will be a price to pay.
My brain will overload with all the info and I will lose all inhibitions when it comes to research. The brain can be handled easily. Grandpa just needs to constantly infuse Life attributed mana in my body. The main issue is the absence of inhibitions. With others, it wouldn’t matter much but with me...it would make me dangerous. You both know that I only have a few inhibitions when it comes to research. Just the bare minimum, maybe less. Without those, I would be a true monster."
"But Battle Machine only activates when in battle. This is not a battle."
"It is to me. It has already been a year since we Awakened but we are still the same. We haven’t become any stronger. So for me, this is a battle against time." freewebnovel.cσ๓
Cass and Leonel were silent. Cass looked at his brother and could tell that he wasn’t going to change his mind.
"Anything I say will not change your mind. I know that. I guess I need to become your inhibitor then. After all, we are the Twin Arbiters of Equibrilium. As Grandpa had said, we balance each other." [Refer ch16]
Leonel looked at the two and smiled. He said, "When do we begin?"
"Tomorrow morning. And not a word to Aunt Kat and Uncle Alexi. If they know, they’ll only blame themselves."
"We understand. But we’re gonna have to tell them at some point."
"That’s a problem for our future selves. I am going to sleep. I need to be at my best tomorrow."
The next day, the trio met back at the lab.
Leonel asked as he put his hands on Zeke’s back, "Are you ready?"
"As ready as I’ll ever be. Let us begin."
Zeke first thought about the time that he had wasted. It angered him. When his anger reached its peak, he activated Battle Machine. Fortunately, it was successfully activated. Then, he activated Insatiable Thirst. He felt something inside his mind break and knew this was the moment. He screamed, "NOW!"
Leonel started infusing large amounts of Life attributed mana into Zeke’s body. Zeke’s body had started physically changing. It was as if something was sucking the life out of him. If not for the infusion, he would have died. As he was infusing the mana, Leonel understood what was going on. Zeke’s brain needed energy, much more than his body could provide to stray in this state. Thankfully, he was there. As an SS Grade Player, the quality of his mana was very high. But even with his mana, it was barely enough.
The only advantage of this was that Zeke’s body was strengthening rapidly. If pure Aether was available, maybe he could have evolved his body so that he could use this state regularly. Soon a minute and a half passed and Zeke’s brain stopped sucking the energy and calmed down. Leonel kept infusing the mana for another five minutes, making sure there weren’t any hidden wounds left. Zeke had passed out, but the smile on his face suggested that he had found the answer.
While this was happening, Alexi and Katherine were having an important conversation regarding their babies’ future.
"What do you think? Should we allow the boys to turn them?"
"I don’t know. Let us look at the pros and cons. Hopefully, that will make it easier to decide."
"True. Let us look at the cons first. Too much uncertainty. They’re a completely new race, so we have no idea about their future. We don’t know how it will affect the pregnancy. Will it increase the gestation period, will the delivery be safe, there are many doubts. In a way, their circumstances would be even more extraordinary than the boys because they will be the first natural-born Neo-Nephilims. And...wait, are there any other cons?"
"Not really. Then let us look at the pros. Unlimited potential. You’ve seen the skills and abilities the boys have. Even if our children do not inherit all of them, their potential would be far higher than any Neo-Human."
"And the boys will probably figure out their skills and abilities in 10 years. They are already creating their cultivation technique. So there is also that."
"Yeah. And with Zeke’s knowledge, it is guaranteed to be strong. That boy doesn’t mess around when it comes to the boys’ futures."
"I still need to think about it."
If Alexi and Katherine knew what Zeke had done for the sake of completing the technique before they made their choice, nobody knows what they would do.
[I do. They would beat me up.]
