Chapter 503: Chapter 503 - Epilogue(Part 3)
"Mhm, yeah, that’s right, you’re getting it now," I nodded with a smile.
"Huh, I see...okay, then, this is pretty interesting, seems like it could be fun," Mused Celt thoughtfully, as he took a puff of a joint.
It’s a few days later, and I was currently hanging out with Celt Sedint. He’s pretty laidback and easy-going, definitely the type who’s easy to get along with, at least for me. I figured I should make an effort to interact with more people, and I just sort of clicked with this guy.
With things settling in Larcelaru, I decided to up the entertainment value in the nation, by introducing some board games and stuff. Celes and I have been keeping the Entertainment functions of our Systems to ourselves, only Arucei knows about it, and she agreed to keep it under wraps too.
It’s not like we can share it with everyone, after all, and it wouldn’t be right to leave anyone out, so yeah, we figured the best option is to just keep it a secret.
Instead, I’ve introduced a wide variety of analog games, like ludo, snakes and ladders, the various playing card games, uno, and so on. I just got done making a checkers board, and I figured I’d try it out with Celt and get his opinion on it.
All the other games I’ve introduced have been hits, the quality of life in this place is improving every day. I have plans to introduce other stuff too, like concerts and festivals.
"Oh, nice move, you’re really getting the hang of this fast," I remarked, before taking a puff as he passed the joint back to me.
Yeah, so, we planted a ton of weed shortly after taking over, we got rid of the toxic drugs that were in circulation and marketed weed as a replacement.
We’ve also set up a factory to brew alcohol, various farms for livestock and crops, and the outposts by the resource-rich areas are almost complete too, we should be able to get more consistent supplies of resources before much longer.
"Oh, I think I’m going to lose," Sighed Celt, as I cut one of his pieces, leaving just two left, while I still had four.
"Yeah, probably...but that said, considering this is only the fourth match we’re playing, it’s pretty impressive how much you’ve improved. This is just one of those games where you have to play it a ton before you start figured out strategy and stuff, it’s hard to try and look several moves ahead when you’re still getting used to it. At least, that’s how it was for me, and I’d say I’m about average at it, at best...it’s looking like you might be able to get real good at it pretty quickly if you keep playing it. What do you think? Is it any fun for you?" I asked him.
"Yeah, it is...the rules are simple, but you still have to outsmart your opponent to win. Yeah, I like it," He nodded in response, before adding, "I really hope this isn’t a dream...and if it is, I hope I never wake up. I’ve never felt so free and relaxed in my life."
"Well, you played a key role in that. If it wasn’t for that massive wall you created, it would’ve been a lot harder to maintain this peace. But thanks to you, we have a pretty damn solid defense," I pointed out.
"I guess, but all those Monsters you gathered around the outside of the wall is what really makes the defense work." ƒreeωebnovel.ƈom
Well, yeah...I mean, I’ve probably messed up the food chain and ecosystem with what I did, but it’s fine, it shouldn’t affect the region within the wall. The rest of the nation can burn to the ground for all I care.
"Still, the wall definitely helps too. On another note, I appreciate you treating me like a human right from the start. Most of the other people were definitely pretty wary of me at first, not that I can blame them," I remarked with a wry smile.
"Hm? Oh, right...yeah, I keep forgetting that you’re a Unique Monster. In my head, you’re just a guy," He replied with a shrug.
"I mean, I am human on the inside."
"Oh, yeah, I remember you mentioning something like that. Well, it doesn’t really matter...doesn’t change the fact that everything’s better cuz of you now. Food’s cheaper and tastier, there’s these games, all those assholes are dead...there’s nothing more I can ask for," He responded, letting out a content sigh, before adding, "Hm, food...I’m craving something fried and crispy."
Looks like he’s pretty stoned.
"Hm, let me see, pretty sure I preserved some fried meat to snack on...yup, here it is!" I grinned, as I took out a container of fried meat strips, along with a small bowl of sauce in the middle.
"Nice," He muttered with a gleam in his eyes, picking up one of the strips before dipping it in the sauce and taking a bite.
"The cuisine’s steadily improving, the recipes and spice mixes I handed out seem to be paying off," I nodded in approval, as I bit into one of the strips, a savory burst of flavor filling my mouth.
"Sho good...mm, this is the best."
"Glad you’re enjoying it."
"Oh, I don’t just mean the food, I mean everything. I don’t dread waking up anymore, I don’t feel a pit in my stomach every time I go outside...I’ve never felt so alive. And I have more money than I know what to do with," He replied, as he took another bite.
We gave him a hefty chunk of money to pay him for building the wall, enough that he’d never need to work again. He was pretty thrilled with that, especially after we assured him that he won’t need to fight, since he’s apprehensive towards combat.
All in all, things are going great, I really feel like I’m making the best of my life in this world...
