Chapter 519: Chapter 519: Letting Him Off Too Easily
Seeing Melody Summers remain unmoved, Silas Lancaster grew even more frantic.
He ignored his injured leg and struggled to crawl toward Melody Summers, trying to cling to her leg.
But before he could even touch Melody Summers, a broom swung at him and knocked him flat on the ground again.
Nina Summers gripped the broom in her hand, watching Silas Lancaster warily as she yelled, "Where did this psycho come from! Get lost! Don’t touch my sister!"
Silas Lancaster looked up at Nina Summers and snarled, "And who are you?! What did you just call her?... She’s my sister, not yours!"
Nina Summers brandished the broom at Silas Lancaster, her hands on her hips as she shot back, "Who I am is none of your business! You beggar, who are you calling your sister? Don’t go around claiming connections you don’t have!"
Melody Summers was getting a headache from their bickering when, just then, the sound of footsteps rang out in the distance—
"Quick! Quick! He’s over there!"
"Hurry! Don’t let that punk get away!"
Melody Summers looked toward the sound and saw two men running their way from the distance. They must have been drawn by Silas Lancaster’s pained howls from earlier.
Silas Lancaster realized his pursuers were here. He was so scared he forgot the pain in his leg. He pushed himself up with his hands and scrambled toward the Summers Villa, trying to hide inside.
But just as he neared the villa’s front door, Nina Summers forcefully shoved him away with the broom.
"Let me in!" Silas Lancaster screamed, on the verge of a breakdown. "Hurry, let me in! Or I’m going to die!"
But Nina Summers completely ignored him. Whenever Silas Lancaster got close to the villa, she would jab him away with the broom.
Watching from the sidelines, Melody Summers suddenly thought the pair looked like one of the aggressive monkeys from Mount Emeris and the park ranger trying to fend it off...
While the two were struggling, the two men arrived. They pounced on Silas Lancaster, twisted his arms behind his back, and pinned him to the ground!
"You little punk, where do you think you’re going! Our boss has been looking for you for a while! Come back with us!"
They pressed down on his broken thigh, and the pain made Silas Lancaster struggle and scream, "Aargh! Let me go!"
Seeing him struggle, the man holding Silas Lancaster down slapped him twice across the face and roared, "You son of a bitch, you signed the servitude contract and you still dare to run! I’ll teach you to run! I’ll teach you! I’ll beat you to death!"
As he spoke, the man grabbed Silas Lancaster’s hair and began slapping him furiously. After a few slaps, Silas Lancaster’s ears were ringing.
Watching the two men punch and kick Silas Lancaster, Melody Summers raised her eyebrows in surprise. "...Saul Archer? Jay Lowell?"
’How could it be these two?’
’Aren’t these the two who set up Cameron Summers to rack up all that debt?’
’I can’t believe Silas Lancaster got mixed up with them. Looks like he went gambling, too... What an idiot, digging his own grave!’
Hearing her voice, Saul Archer and Jay Lowell looked up. When they saw Melody Summers standing before them, they both froze—
"Miss Summers?!"
"What are you doing here?!"
Before Melody Summers could speak, Silas Lancaster, beaten to a pulp, struggled to say, "Sister! Save me! Please, save me!"
Hearing Silas Lancaster say that, Saul Archer and Jay Lowell were so frightened they immediately let go.
’Sister?!’
’Could it be...?’
A certain possibility dawning on him, Saul Archer awkwardly wrung his hands, pointed at Silas Lancaster, and carefully asked Melody Summers, "...Miss Summers, do you know him?"
’If Silas Lancaster is really her brother... this is a huge problem!’
Seeing his chance, Silas Lancaster immediately yelled, "Yes! We know each other! I’m her own brother! Don’t you touch me!"
Hearing those three words, Saul Archer and Jay Lowell instantly broke out in a cold sweat.
Meeting Saul Archer’s and Jay Lowell’s panicked gazes, Melody Summers nodded. "Yes, we do know each other."
At her words, hope flared in Silas Lancaster’s eyes. ’I knew it! She wouldn’t abandon me!’
’After all, they were brother and sister, from the same mother!’
Jay Lowell’s knees went weak with fright at Melody Summers’s answer. He thought about what they’d done to Silas Lancaster the night before and began to debate whether he should get on his knees and beg for forgiveness or just make a run for it...
Saul Archer, however, braced himself and feigned composure, stammering, "...S-So he’s one of your own. Miss Summers, you should’ve said so sooner! Look at this..."
But before he could finish, Melody Summers’s tone suddenly shifted as she said coldly, "He’s an enemy of mine."
Her words were a dagger, shattering all of Silas Lancaster’s illusions.
Silas Lancaster stared blankly at Melody Summers as horror and despair washed over him, mingled with an indescribable feeling of being wronged.
’Why?!’
’We’re brother and sister!’
’How could she just stand by and watch as other men abused me?!’
Meanwhile, Saul Archer and Jay Lowell felt as though they’d just survived a disaster. They both breathed a sigh of relief and patted their chests, promising,
"Oh, so that’s how it is... Miss Summers, rest assured! We’ll definitely teach him a good lesson for you!"
"That’s right! The son of a bitch owes our boss a ton of money, and he even signed a servitude contract! We have plenty of ways to deal with him!"
Hearing the term "servitude contract," Melody Summers frowned. "What servitude contract? Are you involved in human trafficking? Who else have you taken?"
Saul Archer quickly waved his hands in denial. "No, no, we were just messing around. We only had this kid sign one. Our boss took a liking to him and wanted to... have a little fun."
Listening to Saul’s explanation, Melody Summers mentally rolled her eyes. ’I’ll report this whole group of them in a while!’
’But before that...’
Melody Summers pulled Saul Archer aside, slipped a small gold bar from her pocket into his hand, and gestured toward Silas Lancaster, who was slumped on the ground, his face a mask of despair. With a hint of suggestion in her voice, she said, "He might look like an orphan whose parents are long dead, but he isn’t. He has a family. If his family reports him missing and they track you down, it could get... troublesome."
Saul Archer was no fool. He understood the implication in her words.
He weighed the gold bar in his hand and said in a voice only the two of them could hear, "Miss Summers, don’t you worry. That kid won’t last more than a few days. Once our boss gets tired of him, he’ll find a way to... dispose of him."
Although Saul himself didn’t have the guts or the desire to kill, his boss was a ruthless man. ’Since he dared to do something like this, there’s no way he’ll let Silas Lancaster leave alive!’
Melody Summers frowned, a hint of dissatisfaction in her voice. "But letting him die just like that... is letting him off too easily."
Hearing this, Saul Archer’s eyes darted, and he quickly changed his tune. "I understand, Miss Summers. After our boss is tired of him, I’ll find a place to lock him up and torture him every day. I’ll make him wish he was dead!"
Melody Summers first nodded, then shook her head. "But if he stays alive that long, there’s a risk he could be rescued... and as you know, the police in our neighborhood are quite competent."
Saul Archer: "..."
’You’re pretty hard to please!’
Saul Archer wiped the rain from his face and promised her, "Rest assured, we’ll do our best to meet your demands... We’ll get rid of him quickly, but we won’t let him have an easy death!"
