Chapter 502: Chapter 502
Melody Summers stared into Sylvia Lancaster’s eyes, a ghost of a smile on her face. "Sylvia Lancaster, what a coincidence. Ethan Sutton and his family died just downstairs in 4-1506... You two were husband and wife, after all. Don’t you want to go down and take a look?"
The Suttons were all dead. The Lancasters were next.
The five members of the Lancaster family... not a single one of them would escape. They had to suffer every kind of hardship and torment in this apocalypse and die in despair, just as she had in her past life.
Melody Summers looked at Sylvia Lancaster as if she were already dead. Sylvia’s mind went blank, and a chill crawled up her spine. She shivered involuntarily...
’Why?’
’She clearly had no grudge against this world’s Melody Summers, so why was Melody looking at her like that?’
’And...’
’Ethan Sutton’s entire family was actually dead?!’
’...Who killed them?’
As Sylvia Lancaster stood there in a daze, Winston Sheffield frowned at the suddenly intruding Melody Summers and said, "Who are you? Who let you in?"
Melody Summers sneered and replied, "I should be the one asking you that. This is my house. Who let you in? Now, get the hell out!"
Winston Sheffield’s eyes widened at her words. ’This apartment has always been empty. He thought the owner had died in the disasters long ago. He never expected them to show up at his door so soon!’
Seeing that neither Winston Sheffield nor Sylvia Lancaster was speaking, Melody Summers grew impatient. She pointed to the open door behind her and scowled. "Are you deaf? What are you still standing around for? Get out!"
’She didn’t want to kill these two in her own house. That would be too much bad luck!’
’This was a brand-new place!’
Winston Sheffield stared silently at Melody Summers, his mind racing to find a solution.
After a moment, he suddenly spoke. "Do you know who I am?"
Melody Summers was amused by his abrupt question. She mocked, "Are you a moron? You don’t even know who you are? If you don’t know who you are, go home and ask your parents. Why are you asking me? What, am I your mother? Or is your dad dead?"
"You!" Winston Sheffield’s face flushed red with anger. He couldn’t stop himself from roaring, "I’m a public official with the Reconstruction Department!"
The Reconstruction Department was incredibly powerful right now, an entity that everyone needed to curry favor with. Winston Sheffield couldn’t believe Melody Summers hadn’t heard of it.
But Melody Summers just scoffed. She looked at Winston Sheffield as if he were an idiot and jeered, "Don’t give me that ’Reconstruction Department’ crap. Even if you were from the Department of Professional Assholes, it wouldn’t make a difference! What are you still blabbering on about? Grab your little girlfriend and get out of my house!"
Sylvia Lancaster’s face paled, and she blurted out, "How could you do this? It’s bad enough that you’ve claimed 1606 for yourself, but now you’re going after 1706 too? My whole family has nowhere to live! Are you trying to drive us all to our deaths?!"
’The rest of the Lancaster family is living in a filthy, stinking, low-rent apartment,’ Sylvia thought, ’but Melody Summers has all these apartments and villas...’
’By what right?!’
Sylvia Lancaster glared at Melody Summers with resentment and said in a low voice, "They’re your blood relatives. How can you be so heartless..."
’Sylvia truly couldn’t understand how this world’s Melody Summers could have zero regard for family ties. Her heart was just too cruel!’
Melody Summers suspected Sylvia Lancaster was incapable of understanding human language. She frowned and said, "Don’t go claiming we’re related. What does your family’s life or death have to do with me? Besides, what do you mean ’claimed for myself’? Are you dense? Whether it’s 1606 or 1706, I bought them both, paid in full, with my own money!"
Hearing this, Sylvia Lancaster felt utterly wronged, tears welling in her eyes and threatening to spill over.
’She really hated this world. This world wasn’t good to her at all!’
’She wished she could go back to her original world right now. She would have Flynn Adler torture Melody Summers mercilessly. She would make sure Melody was tortured to the point where she’d be begging for a death that would never come!’
Winston Sheffield glanced down and saw Sylvia Lancaster on the verge of tears, and his heart immediately ached for her.
He made up his mind, silently walked to the apartment door, and swiftly shut and locked it.
Then, he walked up to Melody Summers with a grave expression, pulled his work ID from his pocket, and held it in front of her face. "I am an official from the Reconstruction Department," he said in a deep voice. "I am now formally notifying you that this apartment has been requisitioned by the Reconstruction Department! Please leave immediately!"
Melody Summers: "..."
Melody Summers was utterly dumbfounded by Winston Sheffield’s actions.
’Did this moron think he was filming a TV drama?’
’Was he trying to imitate the FBI?’
Seeing Melody Summers’s stunned expression, Winston Sheffield thought he had intimidated her.
He lifted his chin slightly in satisfaction and said with a cold face, "Alright, seeing as this is your first offense, I’ll let your previous actions slide. Leave now! However..."
Winston Sheffield stared at Melody Summers’s face and threatened, "Let me give you a fair warning. If you dare come here and cause trouble again, I’ll have you thrown in prison for obstructing the work of the Reconstruction Department!"
The moment Winston Sheffield finished speaking, Melody Summers couldn’t hold it in any longer and burst out laughing. "HAHAHAHA... You really are a moron! You should get your head checked! HAHAHAHA..."
Melody Summers’s mocking laughter echoed through the room, and Winston Sheffield’s face grew redder and redder.
’These days, anyone who heard the name "Reconstruction Department" would show some respect. He never thought Melody Summers would have this kind of attitude!’
He glared at Melody Summers, flying into a rage from the humiliation. He raised his fist and threatened viciously, "Bitch! Who do you think you are, talking to me like that... Do you really think I won’t hit you?!"
Melody Summers rubbed her stomach, which ached from laughing so hard, as she secretly reached for the taser in her pocket.
Worried that a high setting would knock him out instantly and make the subsequent interrogation inconvenient, she turned the taser’s power down.
Then she looked up at Winston Sheffield as if he were a complete moron and said provocatively, "That’s right, why don’t you hit me? I hear it’s not a crime when a moron hits someone!"
Winston Sheffield couldn’t take it anymore. He gritted his teeth and threw a punch at Melody Summers!
Melody Summers was prepared. She easily dodged the punch, then whipped out the taser and jabbed it against the exposed skin of Winston Sheffield’s right arm.
As the ZAP of electricity echoed through the living room, Winston Sheffield felt half his body go numb, as if thousands of ants were crawling over and biting him. He let out a pained howl, "AHHH—!"
Melody Summers put the taser away and viciously kicked Winston Sheffield’s knee!
Half of Winston Sheffield’s body was numb, and at that moment, even his brain felt paralyzed. The kick from Melody Summers sent him collapsing to the floor.
"Ah!" Sylvia Lancaster screamed at the sight. Her voice trembling, she yelled at Melody Summers, "Wh-what are you doing... I’m warning you, don’t do anything rash!"
Melody Summers completely ignored Sylvia Lancaster. Watching Winston Sheffield struggle on the floor, she lifted her foot and viciously kicked him in the face.
"Ugh!" Winston Sheffield let out a muffled groan of pain, his head spinning.
Watching Winston Sheffield’s eye socket begin to swell, Melody Summers gave a faint smile.
Then she slowly leaned down. As Winston Sheffield watched in terror, she lowered her voice and said, "Bastard. This is what you owe Nina Summers. And now, I’m here to collect."
