Chapter 473: Chapter 473: Good Riddance
"4-1209 Slacking Off: Why are people still mourning him? Why was his account banned? Because he brought it on himself, obviously."
"5-801 Lil Howell: @4-1209 Slacking Off What do you mean by that? Have you no humanity? Don’t you know you’re supposed to respect the dead? You have no manners!"
"4-1209 Slacking Off: @5-801 Lil Howell Get lost. His body isn’t even in the ground yet. If you want to cry over his grave, go do it outside. Don’t freak out in front of me!"
"2-1408 Bella Grant: @4-1209 Slacking Off Stop fighting. What exactly happened?"
"4-1209 Slacking Off: Haven’t you seen the police notice? That guy in 4-1504 got his account banned because he posted fake videos slandering and smearing Ms. Summers from our Emergency Management Office!"
"4-1209 Slacking Off: [Link]"
"4-1209 Slacking Off: [Video Link]"
"4-1209 Slacking Off: This is the police notice and the full story. You guys can take a look."
"4-1209 Slacking Off: This 1504 guy was banned by the authorities for spreading rumors and manipulating public opinion. He’s not innocent at all, so stop virtually mourning him!"
"4-1503 Ryan Lawson’s Mom: Oh my god, this video is outrageous. That’s a bald-faced lie! I was there, I saw it with my own eyes. The two people Ms. Summers killed were knife-wielding thugs! They weren’t innocent civilians!"
"4-1503 Ryan Lawson’s Mom: Ms. Summers was the one who saved everyone, and that 1504 guy went and made up these rumors! It’s just too much!"
"3-805 Fruit Gummy: I just watched the video, I’m so pissed. He actually slandered Miss Winnie. Miss Winnie is the best!"
"6-2702 Holly: He even spread rumors about someone as good as Ms. Summers. That 1504 guy deserved to die!"
"6-702 The Lover: You guys didn’t see the video that 1504 posted before. Miss Summers was getting torn apart by netizens! I was in the comments replying to everyone trying to clear things up, and that 1504 guy deleted my comments and blocked me!"
"3-904 Felinae Panthera: omg, I’ve come across this 1504’s account before. He’s slandered a lot of people, right? ...Is this his way of atoning for his sins with suicide?"
"3-805 Fruit Gummy: @3-904 Felinae Panthera Now that you mention it, I remember too. No wonder I thought that account name looked familiar! Good thing he killed himself, or I would’ve gone over there and blown his head off on the spot!"
"2-1908 Coco: For people like him... all I can say is good riddance. Is the body still around? I want to go set off some firecrackers to celebrate."
"4-1009 Lowell On Deadline: @2-1908 Coco It’s raining so hard outside, how are you going to set off any firecrackers? The rain would probably put them out the second you lit them."
"2-1408 Bella Grant: True... Haven’t you guys noticed? It’s been raining for days on end. When is it ever going to stop?"
"4-1009 Lowell On Deadline: I have a feeling this rain isn’t going to stop anytime soon. Do you think... this could be a new natural disaster?!"
"3-1007 Kiki, Mom of Two: @4-1009 Lowell On Deadline Oh god, don’t jinx it! It’s April, there’s always a lot of rain. This is normal, right?"
"4-2009 Nina: Yeah, spring is always rainy, it’s normal. Besides, more rain is a good thing. The crops grow faster with more water!"
"4-1009 Lowell On Deadline: ...With this much rain, the crops in the fields will be flooded. How can they possibly grow..."
"4-1209 Slacking Off: Speaking of which, have you guys seen the weather forecast? It says it’s going to rain in the city for the next 20 days."
"6-702 The Lover: @4-1209 Slacking Off Oh my god, even the rainiest springs in past years weren’t like this. Could this really be a new natural disaster..."
"..."
After reading the comments in the residents’ group chat, Melody Summers felt a little relieved.
Given what had happened, the police also believed Frank York had jumped because he couldn’t handle his account being banned. They most likely wouldn’t investigate further, which saved her a lot of trouble.
Melody Summers checked the time, then went to Saul Archer and Jay Lowell’s place.
Seeing Melody Summers arrive, Jay Lowell looked a bit nervous. He quickly lowered his voice and explained, "This had nothing to do with us! The kid really did commit suicide!"
Jay Lowell hadn’t expected Frank York to actually jump off the building.
Melody Summers nodded. In truth, she didn’t really care. Whether Frank York had jumped or been pushed, all that mattered was that he was dead.
Letting him die so quickly was getting off easy, but it also prevented future complications. She no longer had to worry about him posting another nonsensical video online.
Saul Archer recounted the events of the past three days to Melody Summers.
After being hit with his account getting banned and his source of income being cut off, Frank York was quickly tempted by the allure of gambling.
With Saul Archer and Jay Lowell setting him up, Frank York went on a winning streak, at one point winning as much as 1.9 million.
Even without his social media career, 1.9 million would have been enough to live on for a while. Even with soaring prices, 1.9 million could still buy a lot of food. But then...
Saul Archer continued, "Later, that Frank York guy got desperate from losing. He was over three million in debt. To get his principal back and keep gambling, he took out online loans from every platform he could find. He even used his girlfriend’s personal information to borrow a ton of money."
Jay Lowell added, "The kid even said his girlfriend was a dancing influencer and offered to pawn her off to us by the hour for cash..."
At this, Jay Lowell saw Melody Summers frown slightly and quickly clarified, "Of course we didn’t agree! We’re not some kind of gangsters, we’d never hurt a woman! But as soon as his girlfriend heard him say that, she packed her things and skipped town."
Because Chloe Sharp wasn’t one of Melody Summers’s targets for revenge, Saul Archer and Jay Lowell had let her go.
In the end, Frank York was over five million in debt. Knowing there was no hope of a comeback and lacking the mental fortitude of someone like Cameron Summers, he leaped from the 15th floor last night.
Melody Summers nodded, reasonably satisfied with the outcome.
She took the gold bar from her pocket, tossed it to Saul Archer, and said, "Here’s the payment we agreed on. Take it!"
Saul Archer caught the heavy gold bar and eagerly bit down on it. A sharp glint appeared in his eyes—it was real, solid gold!
He flashed Melody Summers a fawning smile and said in a low voice, "Thanks, miss. If you have any more jobs like this in the future, just give us two brothers a call anytime!"
Hearing this, the corner of Melody Summers’s mouth twitched. She said nothing more and left.
