Chapter 91: Chapter 91: If You Trust Me
As soon as Shen Nian and Lu Cheng entered the next car, they saw a crowd gathered in the middle. It was obvious that was where the incident had occurred.
"What happened here?"
Shen Nian asked a nearby passenger as she and Lu Cheng made their way forward.
A passenger in the car who had seen what happened heard Shen Nian’s question and eagerly explained.
"An elderly man over there seems to have suddenly fallen ill and collapsed. Oh, it’s just awful. We’re on a train, after all. What are we going to do if it’s serious?"
Upon hearing that an elderly man had collapsed, Shen Nian and Lu Cheng quickened their pace. Soon, they reached the circle of people surrounding the patient.
The person lying on the floor was surely the sick old man the passenger had just mentioned. His eyes were shut tight, his brow was furrowed, his face was deathly pale, and his lips had a purplish tint, making for a frightening sight.
Because of this, although a crowd had gathered to watch, very few people actually dared to get close.
After all, if something were to happen, they didn’t want to be held responsible.
Only a man traveling with the elderly gentleman was squatting beside him, his eyes red with anxiety. His forehead was beaded with sweat, and he was at a complete loss, not knowing what to do.
"A doctor! Is there a doctor on the train? Help my dad! Please, help my dad!"
"Try not to panic. Someone has already gone to get the train staff. They’ll make an announcement for help over the train’s broadcast system soon."
Someone nearby tried to comfort the man, but their words offered no solace at all.
"Please, I’m begging you! Does anyone know what to do? Please save my dad! Dad, you can’t die! You absolutely can’t! This is all my fault. It’s all my fault! I knew you weren’t well; I never should have let you take a long-distance train!"
Seeing the man’s anxious expression and the suffering look on the old man lying on the floor, Shen Nian’s heart went out to them.
She wasn’t a doctor, but her work experience at a clinic in her past life was enough for her to tell that the man on the floor was having a sudden heart attack.
Moreover, the situation looked extremely urgent. The slightest misstep could put the old man’s life in danger.
’I know stepping in now might cause trouble for me,’ Shen Nian thought, ’but faced with this, if I have the ability to help and do nothing, my conscience will never be clear.’
"This gentleman is likely having a heart attack! Everyone, please make some room! Don’t stand so close; he needs to be able to breathe freely!"
Shen Nian said as she walked forward. Hearing her, the onlookers, though curious, did as she asked and backed away, leaving a large open space around the old man.
When the man saw someone step forward, it was as if he’d seen a savior. He scrambled to his feet and rushed over to Shen Nian.
"Doctor, are you a doctor? Please, I’m begging you, save my dad! Please save him!"
The man moved so quickly that he startled Shen Nian. Fortunately, Lu Cheng was right by her side and steadied her, preventing her from falling.
"I’m sorry, I’m not a doctor. I’ve just had some first aid training. If you’ll trust me, I can take a look at the gentleman."
When the onlookers heard that Shen Nian wasn’t a doctor yet still dared to step forward, many of them began to whisper among themselves. Shen Nian could even hear some of them muttering about her overestimating her abilities, but right now, she couldn’t be bothered with any of that.
"A heart attack can go either way. We can’t waste a single minute. You need to decide quickly."
If a doctor were present, Shen Nian would never have been so bold. The problem was, no one else was stepping up.
Perhaps the man was moved by the sincerity in Shen Nian’s eyes, or perhaps her words made him realize the gravity of the situation.
"Okay... I’ll leave my dad in your hands!"
