After closing the door, Shen Nian looked down at what Wang Xi had just brought her. Upon seeing it, she couldn’t help but smile.
Because she was holding the very package she had sent to Lu Cheng from home!
Shen Nian had wondered if her package would arrive at Lu Cheng’s company while he was still away on his mission.
But she never expected that she would be the one to receive the things she had sent.
Still, this worked out well. When Lu Cheng returned, she could give him everything herself and see his reaction to the food she had made firsthand.
Although Shen Nian was confident in her cooking, she still cared deeply about Lu Cheng’s reaction.
’Of course she hoped Lu Cheng would love the food she’d made with her own hands!’
After putting the items away for now, Shen Nian went back to her chores. When Lu Cheng’s dorm was sparkling clean, she felt a great sense of accomplishment.
She rested for a bit and caught her breath, feeling a little sticky. It was probably from sweating while cleaning and getting covered in dust.
Remembering Lu Cheng had a private bathroom, Shen Nian decided to take a shower. After all, he probably wouldn’t be back so soon anyway.
Meanwhile, Lu Cheng left the dorm and headed straight for the minister’s office, eager to report on his recent mission.
"Minister Zhang, I’m Lu Cheng, group leader of Group Three."
"Come in!"
Zhang Yuanjun, Minister of the First Executive Department of Lu Cheng’s Security Group, had heard about Lu Cheng’s return early that morning. He’d even heard that Lu Cheng had brought his young wife with him. In fact, he’d been waiting for Lu Cheng to show up for a while now!
’Based on his arrival time at headquarters, he should have reported in long ago. The fact that he’s so late... It’s obvious he went to get his young wife settled in first!’
"...Minister Zhang, that sums up the mission. This is the report."
Once inside the minister’s office, Lu Cheng wasted no time, briefing the minister on the mission details as quickly as possible.
He didn’t want to waste another second there. After all, he couldn’t stop thinking about Shen Nian, who was waiting for him back in the dorm.
However, just because Lu Cheng was eager to leave didn’t mean his minister was going to play along.
The younger generation weren’t the only ones who liked to gossip. As a minister, Zhang Yuanjun certainly had his moments too!
And clearly, he was very interested in this particular bit of gossip about Lu Cheng.
As Lu Cheng was one of his most prized subordinates, Zhang Yuanjun had naturally tried to set him up before. But regardless of the woman’s background or qualifications, Lu Cheng rejected them all flat out, without a moment’s hesitation.
After so many rejections, Zhang Yuanjun had all but given up. ’Perhaps this subordinate of mine just isn’t interested in women,’ he had thought.
But not long after he’d resigned himself to that idea, he received wedding candy delivered by Lu Cheng in person. The guy was actually getting married, just like that!
Of course, he was curious about Lu Cheng’s wife. He’d even used his authority to grill Lu Cheng about her, but the man had been incredibly tight-lipped.
Just as Zhang Yuanjun was beginning to suspect it was an arranged marriage that Lu Cheng himself wasn’t too keen on, Lu Cheng suddenly submitted a dorm application. He wanted to bring his wife to headquarters—and what’s more, he had requested it be expedited.
Faced with a situation like this, after seeing so many of Lu Cheng’s uncharacteristic actions, how could he, as the minister, not be curious? How could he resist the urge to gossip?
