Chapter 2182: Chapter 2085: Jealousy and Rivalry

Caesar had barely finished speaking when Huo Sining’s originally smiling face instantly froze; the curve of her lips drew back as well. Looking awkward, she glanced at Gu Xu, then at the Emperor, waving her hands repeatedly as she said:

"Hehe, Emperor, that joke is not funny at all."

The man over there had already been displeased with this predatory love rival. Now, seeing Caesar dare to flirt with his own wife right in front of him, his face immediately darkened; he rolled up his sleeves and walked toward the Emperor, baring his teeth as he said coldly:

"You looking for a fight?!"

"Sure!"

The Emperor raised his brows and accepted the challenge without hesitation, yanking off his jacket and tossing it onto the sofa beside him, about to have a big showdown with Gu Xu.

Gu Xu was not polite in the slightest as he assumed an attacking stance: "You flirt with my wife—me crippling you is already merciful. Don’t think I’ll go easy on you just because you barely made it out of that drug den alive and your whole body’s covered in injuries!"

The Emperor let out a cold laugh. "Running your mouth won’t help you. Just come at me with everything you’ve got!"

With that, the two were about to collide and fight to the bitter end.

Huo Sining stood to the side. Seeing this, she felt metaphorical black lines all over her head and couldn’t help saying:

"You want to fight? Fine. The hotel’s rooftop is the terrace—big space, open view, knock yourselves out. Go up there. Don’t fight in here, I still have to finish my meal!"

With that, she didn’t even look at the two of them, simply turned back to the dining table, picked up a big piece of meat, and started eating on her own.

Gu Xu was seething with jealousy, wishing he could just personally finish off this love rival. But seeing his own wife acting like this, clearly angry, his temper immediately deflated. He hurriedly turned around, leaned close to Huo Sining, and prepared to fawn over her.

Unfortunately, Huo Sining was in a bit of a mood at the moment and had no intention of paying Gu Xu any attention. She turned her body to the other side, not wanting to deal with him at all.

The Emperor had been stirring trouble on purpose. Seeing this, he was more than happy to let it play out. The corner of his mouth couldn’t help lifting; when Gu Xu glared at him, he flashed a smug, provocative smile.

The farce hadn’t even finished when the door to the room was knocked on. Huo Sining and Gu Xu both froze, a hint of wariness flashing in their eyes and brows, and they instinctively turned toward Caesar on the sofa.

Caesar’s body stiffened; he lifted his head and looked toward the door as well.

Just as the three of them were wondering if those drug dealers had tracked them down, a voice sounded from outside at just the right time: "Lina, it’s me."

The one knocking wasn’t anyone else, but Windsor Reed, whom Huo Sining had called earlier.

Huo Sining let out a breath when she heard the voice and hurriedly stood up to open the door.

As soon as Windsor Reed came in, he asked anxiously, "Miss Huo, my son..."

Seeing how worked up Windsor Reed was, Huo Sining knew the old man must have sped over here. She didn’t want to keep him in suspense and quickly nodded. "He’s inside. Mr. Earl, go in and have a look."

Windsor Reed didn’t stop his stride, walking swiftly into the inner room.

On the way, the old man had already imagined what kind of scene he was going to see: his son, the Emperor, lying unconscious on the bed, face pale and bloodless, his whole body covered in wounds of varying depth, plus many internal injuries that couldn’t be seen—his entire being on the verge of death, life hanging by a thread at any moment...

Because of this scenario in his head, Windsor Reed had already ordered someone to call an ambulance on the way over. The ambulance was now parked in the hotel’s underground lot, ready to be summoned up at any time.

Only, what Windsor Reed never expected was that after he rushed into the suite, what he saw was a scene that he found utterly unbelievable.

His own son was sitting perfectly fine on the sofa at this moment, even leisurely holding a book in his hands, lazily flipping through it. When he saw his father come in, he respectfully rose from the sofa, bent slightly, and called out, "Father."

Windsor Reed was instantly dumbfounded, almost suspecting his own eyes were playing tricks on him.

"Emperor, you..."

Windsor Reed suddenly lunged to his son’s side. A man in his sixties moved as if the wind had grown under his feet, charging up to Windsor Caesar and grabbing his son’s arm, then starting to run his hands all over his son, feeling him up and down.

Off to the side, Huo Sining saw Windsor Reed’s behavior and immediately understood what he was doing. She quickly said:

"Mr. Earl, you don’t have to worry. The Emperor only suffered some superficial wounds, nothing serious. After we brought him back, my husband already treated his injuries. I’d say in three to five days they’ll scab over and heal. Please rest assured."

Hearing Huo Sining’s words, the Emperor’s eyes flickered with confusion and doubt.

Others might not know, but there was no way he could forget that after he’d been captured by those drug dealers and thrown into that private prison, he’d been one-sidedly brutalized all night long. Those bastards had beaten and kicked him and even used instruments of torture. At the time, he clearly felt like his internal organs were all twisted; he’d coughed up who knew how many mouthfuls of blood. Compared to that, the external wounds were nothing—his internal injuries in his chest and abdomen were far more serious.

Yet unexpectedly, after being rescued by this Huo Sining couple, he had only some external injuries on his body. What on earth was going on? Could it be that those drug dealers had suddenly grown a conscience and given him medicine? Or after rescuing him, had that Gu fellow done something for him?

The Emperor looked suspiciously at Huo Sining and Gu Xu. Even though he didn’t want to admit he’d been saved by his love rival, deep down he knew it was much more likely that this Gu fellow had intervened.

At the very least, given the state he’d been in while locked in that private prison last night, there was absolutely no way he’d be standing here all lively, even rolling up his sleeves to fight someone. Yet after he woke up, aside from some external wounds, he felt no obvious discomfort. And for him, that bit of flesh wound hardly counted as anything.

The Emperor gave Gu Xu, who was acting all detached and aloof, an unreadable look. The upbringing and manners of a prestigious family prompted him to bow his head; he gave Gu Xu a slight bow and said, "Mr. Gu, thank you for saving my life."

Gu Xu waved a hand, his face full of disdain. "Don’t worry, this is absolutely the last time. Next time, even if you’re on your knees begging me, I definitely won’t save you."

What a joke—save this kid and then have him come back later to flirt with his wife? He wasn’t brain-damaged; why would he bring a wolf into his own house?
