Chapter 2171: Chapter 2074: The Incident
After completing the task, Huo Sining and the other two drove the car out of the Sierra Madre Mountains, and it was already past six in the morning. They did not linger in the area and raced towards the hotel where they were staying.
Yu Fei was calculating the time, and after he disconnected the video connector, the transferred video continued to run the program.
The video he transferred was the surveillance footage from the warehouse the previous night, spanning midnight to six in the morning. Judging by the time, by now that footage should have finished playing, and all cameras inside the warehouse would be back to normal operation, with the videos retransmitting to the surveillance room.
So, by now, the base’s surveillance room must have discovered the abnormal situation inside the warehouse.
While driving, he looked at Huo Sining and Gu Xu in the back seat: "Boss, sis, by now that base must be in chaos."
Yu Fei’s lips curled into a mischievous smile, a hint of schadenfreude in his eyes and brows.
Huo Sining and Gu Xu exchanged a glance and also smiled with pursed lips.
After returning to the hotel, the three went directly to their rooms and fell asleep.
Because whether entering or leaving the hotel, or even going in and out of Marede’s deep mountains, Huo Sining used the Invisibility Spell, so the traces of their car entering and leaving the hotel were completely erased, making it impossible to check the surveillance. No matter how extensive Tranleva’s connections were, it was impossible for them to suspect the trio for what happened at the base, allowing Huo Sining and the others to sleep peacefully without any burden.
At this moment, Marede Base was in complete chaos, the entire base shocked and panicked by the theft incident.
At around six in the morning, Bregg had been nodding off at the surveillance room table for two hours. Just then, Jess, who was supposed to take over, pushed the door open and walked in.
Seeing Bregg napping on the table, Jess didn’t say much. Ready to take over, he looked up, intending to check each monitor in routine, but as soon as he looked up and saw the situation displayed on a cluster of seven or eight screens in a certain area, his expression instantly turned stiff.
His eyes were filled with disbelief, and Jess’s mind went blank, almost instinctively rushing to Bregg, rudely pulling him out of his sleep:
"Damn it, stop sleeping, Bregg, just look at this damn mess!"
Awoken by Jess’s frantic voice, Bregg, still drowsy, was yanked towards the handful of monitors.
Those monitors were showing images transmitted from cameras inside the warehouse, and what was displayed now was a complete mess; items were scattered everywhere, and some displays that originally had items were now completely empty!
Seeing this situation, the remaining confusion in Bregg’s mind was instantly cleared as if he had been doused with cold water.
He was dumbfounded, staying that way for a while before speaking, trembling:
"Hey, Jess, this joke... isn’t funny at all, stop this trick..."
Jess was infuriated, unable to resist roaring: "Who’s joking with you! Hurry and notify Captain Holman!"
Saying this, Jess didn’t bother to argue with Bregg, grabbed the intercom, and shouted:
"Control room, control room, this is the control room, Captain Holman, there’s trouble, there’s trouble at the warehouse, please come to the control room!"
Captain Holman was just about to hand over his shift when he heard Jess’s urgent call on the intercom. He hesitated but still made his way to the control room, and upon opening the door and seeing the warehouse’s surveillance videos, even the security team leader, who prided himself on not batting an eye even if Mount Tai collapsed in front of him, instantly turned pale.
Over there, Bregg was left stunned by Jess’s breaking of the last bit of hope, sitting motionless on a chair.
Holman couldn’t afford to question the negligent surveillance room attendant in front of him; he just wanted to confirm one thing—that something truly had happened at the warehouse.
In a panic, he took out his phone, and despite knowing that his call might provoke the upper management and lead to his punishment, he tremulously dialed a number and urgently shouted into the phone:
"Boss, there’s trouble. Last night the warehouse at the base was looted. Please come and see!"
Notified, Tranleva rushed to Marede Base with a group of subordinates, and upon opening the warehouse and seeing its state, he nearly fainted. Seeing Captain Holman standing pale to the side, Tranleva didn’t hesitate to raise his arm and swung it across Holman’s face.
The sound of slapping echoed, and even though Captain Holman, as a retired special forces soldier, had physical prowess ten times superior to Tranleva’s, at this moment he stood shaking, motionless, letting Tranleva’s hand hit his face without even a thought of resisting.
After a good while, exhausted, Tranleva finally sat down in a chair behind him, looked coldly at the bruised Captain Holman, and said icily:
"What exactly is going on? I want a reasonable explanation."
Tranleva’s sharp gaze planted fear in Captain Holman’s heart. He had no doubt that if he failed to explain, he might find himself buried under one of Sierra Madre Mountains’ valleys.
Captain Holman dared not hide, recounting last night’s events in detail, including Bregg’s request for him to investigate the warehouse. Finally, he said:
"It wasn’t until this morning when I was preparing to hand over duties that I heard Jess call me over the intercom and realized something had happened. Yet throughout last night, we patrolled conscientiously without noticing anything abnormal nor any suspicious individuals invading."
Tranleva was furious and immediately slapped Holman again: "Nothing abnormal? The entire warehouse is emptied, and you say nothing abnormal? What kind of security captain are you? Are you eating crap?"
