Chapter 2365: Chapter 2365: Starving to Death
The Elder carries a coffin every day to catch rats, which is frustrating enough. But the worst part is that before he even arrives, the sound of the coffin scares away the rats and cockroaches. In order not to starve, he pretends to be a Mummy, standing still, waiting for the rats and cockroaches to come out so he can strike accurately.
Sometimes he waits for an entire day. Finding something to eat is incredibly difficult, and these little brats want to rob him? Is there no justice left? If he hadn’t spent decades in the underground palace without seeing a soul, he would really want to butcher them and make human jerky to eat slowly.
The two brothers watched eagerly as the Elder finished the meat in his hand, feeling anguished as if he were eating their flesh.
The Fat Man, weakened by hunger, asked feebly, "Senior, can you tell us where you catch the rats? We’ll catch some to fill our bellies, we’re just too hungry to bear it."
The Elder said, "As long as you help me find a treasured sword, I’ll guarantee you a full meal."
The two brothers exchanged a glance; at this moment, they were so hungry their chests were stuck to their backs, they couldn’t take it anymore. So they nodded repeatedly, "Alright, we agree to help you, just give us some food first, and we’ll help you find the treasured sword."
The two brothers planned to fool the Elder, get the meat to fill their stomachs, and deal with the rest later. Once they were outside, whether they find the treasured sword or not was up to them; with people all around, the Elder could never find them anyway.
The Elder remained silent, his coffin moved, and with a swoosh, a pack of something was thrown out.
The Fat Man couldn’t wait and opened it to see a pack of fragrant meat.
He was so hungry his hands and feet shook; he reached out, trembling, grabbed a piece of rat meat and stuffed it into his mouth, chewed, damn, starving all day nearly killed him, this rat meat tasted so good, no wonder Big Brother and Dad used to love eating it.
"Fatty Brother, give me some to eat."
Seeing this, the Thin Man lurched forward like a ravenous dog. The two brothers didn’t raise their heads, but ate together hungrily, starved for a day, nearly driving them mad with hunger.
Finally full, they relaxed, clutching their round bellies, seated on the ground resting,
"I’ve fulfilled my promise, what about yours?"
Suddenly, they heard the Elder speak with an eerie tone.
"What promise?" The two brothers were full, not feeling that hunger anymore, feeling comfortable inside. Unsettled by the Elder’s words, they were momentarily confused.
"What’s the matter? Thinking of burning the bridge after crossing the river, huh? Don’t forget, you’re still on my turf. Don’t think of playing tricks." The Elder said viciously, thinking, damn, they’ve eaten my stored food and just want to turn their back and act like strangers.
The Thin Man realized, "Is the senior speaking of the treasured sword?"
The Elder nodded, "Yes! When will you fulfill it?"
Now that their bellies were full, their minds returned, and the two brothers exchanged a look and said, "Senior, we can help you find the treasured sword, but you should first send us out, right? Otherwise, how can we help you find the treasured sword."
The smile on their faces was a bit cunning.
The Elder seemed not to see it, saying, "Follow me, I’ll take you out."
The two brothers were extremely surprised and delighted; they didn’t expect that after filling their stomachs, there would be a way out. So they together asked the Elder, "Really?"
"Of course, a gentleman never goes back on his word, follow me!" With that, the Elder moved, and the coffin thumped ahead, hopping along. To someone clueless about the situation, it looked quite frightening, as if they’d seen a ghost.
