Chapter 2357: Chapter 2357: Digging a Tunnel
"Lady, get on the carriage."
"Hmm!"
Long Rui gently held Xuexue’s delicate hand and led her to the carriage.
Next to them was a luxurious and elegant carriage, with all sides wrapped in expensive and exquisite silk. The window, inlaid with gold and jewels, was obscured by a light blue crepe curtain, preventing outside onlookers from peering inside, yet those inside seemed able to glimpse the pedestrians outside.
Long Rui wore a snow-white straight-collared long robe, the drape was excellent, with a wide moon-white belt embroidered with cloud patterns cinched at the waist, and a piece of superior ink jade hanging from the waistband.
After carefully assisting Xuexue onto the carriage, he boarded as well.
Zi Xia followed beside the carriage. When the Prince was present, she was merely an idle maid, without needing to do anything. However, the only downside was that when the Prince was there, she couldn’t ride the carriage and had to trail behind. If the carriage moved slowly, it was fine; if it moved fast, it would run her legs thin.
Behind the carriage followed over a hundred guards, the grand convoy heading towards the County Yamen.
Sitting inside the carriage, Xuexue noticed a gentle breeze lifting the curtain. She glanced swiftly and saw a familiar figure flash by, her expression momentarily stunned as she rushed to the window to look out. But with the bustling street, that figure had already vanished.
Long Rui immediately asked, "Lady, what’s the matter?"
With a puzzled expression, Xuexue said, "I think I saw that Fat Man we encountered in Fengcheng City; strangely, he vanished in the blink of an eye?"
Long Rui also glanced outside: "Impossible. They are from the Heavenly Mountain Sect, headed in the opposite direction – how could they appear in the Capital? Lady, perhaps you mistook it?"
Xuexue sat back down, murmuring to herself, "Maybe I saw wrong."
Long Rui embraced her, saying, "Don’t think too much about it. Even if they come to the Capital, it’s none of our concern."
Xuexue nodded: "Hmm."
Long Rui rubbed his chin against the top of Xuexue’s head, the softness of her hair and her fragrance causing his mind to sway, hoarsely asking, "Lady, that Token—have you secured it? It’s greatly significant, so make sure not to lose it."
Xuexue laughed, raised her arm, and looked at the bracelet on her wrist, saying, "Prince, don’t worry, I placed it in a space where it won’t get lost."
.........
"Big brother, big brother, they’ve left." The Fat Man excitedly rushed back to the mansion, having just witnessed the Prince assisting the Princess Consort onto the carriage. Ecstatically, he returned to inform his brother.
Thin Man: "Alright, then let’s act immediately."
Fat Man grinned a flattering smile, glanced at his own rotund physique, and chuckled, "Big brother, with this build, I might not be able to go with you."
"Understood."
The Thin Man glanced at his brother’s rotund figure, expressing helplessness. His brother was as round as a pig, incapable of squeezing into the narrow burrow. Though he himself was thin, his tall stature, with long arms and legs, made crouching in the burrow equally difficult. Yet, to retrieve his brother’s Token and restore his status as protector, he had no choice but to endeavor.
He lifted the bed board to reveal the pitch-black burrow opening. They had chosen to dig the burrow here to avoid outsiders discovering it; if anyone entered, they could simply cover it with the bed board, making it invisible.
The Thin Man rolled up his clothes, crouched, and slowly twisted into the burrow.
Watching his brother disappear into the burrow, the Fat Man beamed, envisioning his brother shortly returning with the Token, and together they’d happily return to the Heavenly Mountain Sect, reclaiming his protector title.
Yet waiting and waiting, the Thin Man didn’t return, and the Fat Man grew anxious, forgetting about his size, he plunged headlong into the burrow.
