Chapter 1196: Chapter 1196: Heading to the Disaster Area

"Girl, I’m only saying this for your own good. How can you not recognize good intentions?" The man looked completely helpless, staring at Jiang Xue, not knowing what else to say.

"Uncle, I know you mean well, but I really have to go. Just tell me, please!" Jiang Xue begged him again. Seeing how determined she was, the man had no other choice in the end and told her, "In a while, there will be a relief truck from the county going to the disaster area. If you really insist on going, then wait up ahead on the main road."

"Okay, okay, okay, thank you, uncle." Jiang Xue thanked him quickly, then ran toward the main road ahead.

She knew that if she missed this relief truck, it wouldn’t be easy to catch another one.

Jiang Xue stood on the main road and waited and waited, but didn’t see any trucks coming out. She couldn’t help doubting if that man earlier had lied to her.

But on second thought, she felt he had no reason to lie to her. With that in mind, Jiang Xue waited a while longer, and finally saw several big trucks coming.

Seeing the trucks, Jiang Xue stepped into the middle of the road and waved her hand. The truck finally stopped, and when she went up, she immediately saw the man who had told her about it before.

"Uncle!" Jiang Xue called out with a smile. She hadn’t expected the man to be going to the disaster area too.

"Get in." The man was a bit helpless. He had deliberately told the driver to come out a little later, hoping Jiang Xue would give up. Who would have thought that she would keep waiting here.

"Thank you, uncle!" Jiang Xue thanked him, then climbed into the back of the big truck from the rear. After she got in, she realized there were already people in the truck bed. So she smiled and greeted the few people there, then found a corner and sat down.

She had just sat steady when the truck started up again and headed toward the disaster area. As time passed, a light rain began to fall from the sky, and the road surface grew slick and shiny, clearly showing it had been raining for quite a while.

Thinking of what those people had said earlier about it pouring in the disaster area, Jiang Xue knew they were getting close.

Sure enough, after another half hour, the rain grew heavier and heavier. Fortunately, the back of the truck was covered with a thick tarpaulin, so sitting in the bed, Jiang Xue and the others didn’t really get wet.

But as they drew nearer to the disaster area and the rain got heavier, some of it still blew into the truck bed and fell on Jiang Xue and the others.

The rain was coming down hard, and the truck slowed. Jiang Xue peered outside through the tarp and saw that visibility out there had already become very low.

In the curtain of rain, it was almost impossible to see the vehicles and pedestrians on the road; occasionally there was a vehicle, but its lights were on. At this point, the people sitting in the truck bed started talking among themselves: "We’re almost there, but with rain this heavy, we won’t even be able to help pick people up when we arrive."

"Yeah, the rain’s too heavy. You can barely see the road. How are we supposed to pick people up?"

"I wonder if the food trucks behind us managed to keep up. It’d be bad if we get there and there’s nowhere to put the supplies."

"With rain like this, even if we put them somewhere, at best it’ll just be in the tents."

"Last time those soldiers, several of them got injured. I heard they didn’t even go to the Hospital, just did some rough bandaging and went straight back to work."

"With this rain, it’d be strange if those wounds didn’t get inflamed."

"Isn’t that the truth. These soldiers really don’t know how to take care of their own bodies."
