Chapter 178: Chapter 178: House Hunting in Modu
Vacations always feel too short. After just two days in Jingyang, Bai Yue flew back to the Capital City.
Wu Yun, on the other hand, flew from Rongcheng to Jinling on the pretext of visiting the set. That very day, he treated the entire cast and crew to a meal. Everyone was exceedingly respectful toward this impossibly young investor—after all, he was the one signing the checks.
This also made them realize Qi Fei’s true connection to him. No wonder he was spending a fortune to pave the way for her.
Wu Yun and Wu Jing chatted for a whole afternoon about their thoughts on the future of film. Afterward, he spent some time with Qi Fei, taking in the culture and scenery of Jinling City, before finally accompanying her back to Modu in a luxury van.
"Senpai! Do you think we should buy a luxury flat or a villa?" Wu Yun asked, scrolling through Shanghai real estate listings on his phone as he turned to look at Qi Fei’s beautiful face.
After thinking for a moment, Qi Fei said, "Why don’t we buy a luxury flat! You already bought a villa in Rongcheng, and I’d like to see what the luxury flats in Modu are like."
Qi Fei was already accustomed to Wu Yun’s lavish spending; after all, he could always earn more.
As the daughter of a real estate CEO, Qi Fei had been immersed in the business since she was young. She was optimistic about Modu’s rising property prices and knew that for Wu Yun, buying a house now was a surefire investment.
"Alright then! For a luxury flat, the Lujiazui area along the Huangpu River looks good. The night views are incredible, too. Buying a place there would be pure bliss!"
Hearing Wu Yun’s words, Liu Xin, who was sitting in the front passenger seat, felt a jolt. ’It must be nice to be rich,’ she thought, ’not having to worry about the price, just whether the view is good.’
If she didn’t know Wu Yun was the chairman of the company, and had just overheard two young people talking about buying a luxury flat in Modu’s most prestigious district, she would have assumed they were just full of hot air.
But this chairman truly was like the protagonist of a novel—the tall, rich, and handsome dream man every girl fantasizes about.
’If I were a few years younger,’ she mused, ’I’d probably be just as reckless, throwing myself at him like a moth to a flame.’
"I just did a quick search, and three residential complexes caught my eye. One is Binjiang Triumphal Arch, another is Cofco Seaview No. 1, and then there’s the legendary Tomson Riviera!"
Wu Yun opened his browser history and leaned in closer to Qi Fei.
"The first phase of Binjiang Triumphal Arch was just completed last year, so this listing is for a brand-new unit."
Wu Yun then pulled up the information for Tomson Riviera. "As for Tomson Riviera, this complex was completed in 2005. Even though it has the best location—you get a close-up view of Modu’s most spectacular city lights—it’s also the oldest of the three."
Next, Wu Yun opened the photos for Cofco Seaview No. 1. "This one is a middle ground between the other two, in terms of both location and age. It was completed in 2010."
Wu Yun glanced at the time and said, "We’ll go look at them tomorrow and try to make a decision by the end of the day. This trip is a bit rushed; I still need to stop by Pinduoduo and Phoenix Entertainment."
"If we don’t find anything we like tomorrow, I’ll have to count on you to keep looking, Senpai! I’m really hoping to watch the New Year’s Eve lights on the Bund from our own living room this year!"
Qi Fei was well aware of Wu Yun’s tendency to delegate everything, so she didn’t object. "Alright then, Xiaoyunzi, I’ll ask an agent if there are any pre-owned properties available."
So Qi Fei sent Wu Yun’s requirements for the property to a real estate agent.
The agent replied almost instantly, as if they had been waiting by their phone: "Got it! One moment, Miss Qi!"
The agent Qi Fei had used last time was based in Lujiazui, so she figured their office was likely to have resources for this kind of property.
Four hours passed in a flash. The luxury van pulled smoothly into a parking spot at the Modu Drama Academy.
Qi Fei stepped out of the van, holding Wu Yun’s hand. She felt light and floaty, as if she were walking on clouds.
The "Little Frog’s" lights flashed, and its power-folding mirrors unfolded, ready to welcome its master back after half a month away.
Wu Yun had given his bodyguard, Li Fengying, and his assistant, Liu Xin, two days off to do as they pleased.
「The next morning.」
Wu Yun and Qi Fei headed straight for Binjiang Triumphal Arch.
Based on the listings the agent sent over the previous night, they had taken a particular interest in a rooftop duplex at Binjiang Triumphal Arch.
The photos from the agent made it look like a villa in the sky. The top floor even came with a swimming pool, which instantly hit the sweet spot for Wu Yun.
Plus, it came fully furnished. Aside from a lack of appliances, they could just swap out some of the furniture to match their own style, give it a quick cleaning, and move right in.
But pictures can be deceiving, often staged and shot from the perfect angle, so they had to see it in person to know for sure.
Guided by two agents, a man and a woman, Wu Yun parked in a guest parking spot.
Getting into the residential complex was a bit of a hassle. Even with the current owner’s approval, the security guard still had to verify their identities with the property management office before letting the group inside.
"Mr. Wu," the female agent began with a smile, "the current owner of this unit is based abroad. Since most of their business is overseas, they rarely have time to come back to the country, which is why they’re looking to sell."
They knew this young, tall, rich, and handsome man was the one calling the shots, so they directed most of their explanations to Wu Yun.
Of course, they didn’t ignore Qi Fei. The female agent stayed by her side, pointing out the complex’s landscaping and amenities.
They swiped a keycard to access the elevator and rode it to the top floor. After opening the door and stepping through the foyer, Wu Yun was immediately greeted by the view beyond the towering glass curtain wall.
Stepping out from the floor-to-ceiling windows led to a modestly sized balcony. It offered a direct, prime view of the river and the cityscape of the Bund on the opposite bank.
The agents then led them on a tour of the various bedrooms and functional rooms. The apartment’s overall decor had a relatively modern and youthful style.
Wu Yun found the layout to be merely acceptable. It was a fairly large duplex, but its structure was a bit too much like a two-story villa.
Other than the rooftop pool, which had initially impressed him, the rest was just... passable.
’Since I’m shopping for a luxury flat,’ he thought, ’I want that feeling of sprawling, single-level space you can take in all at once.’
Seeing Wu Yun’s noncommittal expression, the two experienced agents knew at a glance that he wasn’t entirely satisfied with the property. They would have to show him the other options.
"Senpai, what do you think?" Wu Yun asked.
Qi Fei scanned the interior and turned to him. "The layout is too much like a villa’s," she said. "I agree, let’s keep looking for a true single-level flat."
Hearing their consensus, the agents patiently led them downstairs. Three floors below, they showed them another unit—a luxury flat of over three hundred square meters.
While it still offered a prime view of the river, the building’s position within the complex meant it was set back quite a distance from the riverbank.
Looking down, all you could see were the complex’s green spaces and a row of townhouses below.
In short, there was always something that wasn’t quite right.
"Not a problem, Mr. Wu," one of the agents said. "Let’s head over to Cofco Seaview No. 1. We have two listings there in even better locations."
