Chapter 4: Samuel
After washing his face, William came out of his room.
Their home wasn’t big. It was a single-story house with three small rooms, two bathrooms, and one small kitchen area, with no living room or anything like that.
One of the bathrooms was connected to William’s room, while the other was outside and mostly used by his parents and brother.
When William came out, he could already see three people sitting on a mat on the floor right beside the kitchen area, with some food items placed in front of them.
One of them was Elena, while the other two were his father and brother.
William’s father’s name was Karl.
He was a tall man, around 185 cm in height, with sun-kissed skin, black hair, and black eyes. He looked to be around forty years old, with a few wrinkles on his face, but he must have been quite handsome in his youth.
William’s brother, Samuel, on the other hand had a somewhat frail-looking body. Despite being fourteen years old this year, he was only about 150 cm tall. His skin was fair, and unlike Elena and William, his eyes were similar to Karl’s, black in color.
Seeing William come out, Elena looked at him and then turned to Karl and Samuel.
"Thank you," She repeated once again in the same way he had spoken earlier and burst into laughter.
Karl and Samuel also smiled when they saw this, as Elena had already told them what had happened earlier.
’As expected, women can eat a man into poverty and digest all that food easily, but they just can’t digest gossip,’ William thought with a roll of his eyes when he realized Elena had already told them everything.
He walked over to Samuel and sat down beside him with a relaxed expression.
"What are you people laughing at so early in the morning?" He asked in a casual tone as he looked at his father and brother.
He had seen his brother not long ago in the original timeline before he went to the battlefield.
But similar to his mother, his father had also passed away just a year after her death, so it had been a long time since he had seen him.
Seeing him again, William tried to calm down his erratically beating heart. He felt that if it weren’t for his strong will, he might have burst into tears upon seeing his family again.
"What’s the matter with you? Your mom just said you lost your mind and were saying thank you to her for no reason," Karl asked once William sat down.
William was immediately speechless and glanced at Elena, only to see her smiling at him.
"Dad, if I had lost my mind, then instead of saying thank you, wouldn’t I have told her that the curry she considers a masterpiece doesn’t even taste as good as the normal dishes she makes?"
Karl and Samuel were stunned when they heard William’s words and looked at him with their mouths slightly open, only one thought running through their minds.
’He has really lost his mind.’
William also realized he had misspoken and tried to salvage the situation. But when he saw Elena looking at him with a smile—one that reminded him of the abyss dog that had smiled at him before tearing off his legs on the battlefield, his heart turned cold.
"We will be having curry for dinner."
Elena said this calmly before serving breakfast to everyone.
William was stunned when he heard her words and looked at her with a dumbfounded expression.
’That’s it?’ He couldn’t help but think, wondering what kind of half-baked punishment this was.
The food he had eaten on the battlefield during the war was something even dogs wouldn’t dare to sniff.
Was his mother’s curry worse than that?
No!
Although not hundreds of times better, it was definitely at least one and a half times better than that food.
He could eat ten bowls of it without dying.
He glanced at Karl and Samuel and saw that both of them had numb expressions on their faces and were looking at him with resentment.
’Tch!’ William clicked his tongue in disdain, feeling that both his father and brother were too weak-willed.
’They can’t even handle normal curry. How will they survive in the future without my help?’
William sighed inwardly and began to eat his breakfast.
There were rice, eggs, wheat bread, and vegetable soup.
William came from a farmer’s family, and most farmers ate high-calorie food in the morning instead of something light because they had to work all day in the fields.
Moreover, most farmers rarely ate lunch and sustained themselves on what they ate in the morning. So their breakfast was much heavier than that of the wealthy and the nobles.
Once breakfast was over, Elena and Karl immediately left for the farm.
William, on the other hand looked at Samuel, who was cleaning the dishes, and began to ponder his next steps.
His gaze lingered on Samuel’s frail figure, and his eyes narrowed slightly.
’Samuel had medium-grade Aether Affinity. But despite that, his physique had always been weaker than that of people of his age.’
There were six grades of a person’s affinity with Aether Energy.
From low to high, they were: Low Grade, Medium Grade, High Grade, Excellent Grade, Perfect Grade, and Transcendent Grade.
William had Excellent Grade Aether Affinity, which was considered quite good as people with Perfect and Transcendent Grade affinities were exceptionally rare.
Not to mention Transcendent Grade, which appeared only once among ten million people—even Perfect Grade appeared only once among a million.
And these millions referred only to people who actually had affinity with Aether Energy.
Not every person in the world possessed affinity with Aether and could absorb it to evolve.
Many people had no affinity for Aether Energy at all.
Just like William’s parents—both of them had no affinity for Aether Energy.
So one could imagine how rare people with Perfect and Transcendent Grade affinities truly were, as they appeared only among those who already had affinity.
Because of this rarity, even Excellent Grade affinity holders were considered top-level geniuses.
It was actually quite surprising that both William and Samuel had affinity with Aether Energy as most of the time, if a person lacked affinity, their children would also lack it.
Only in very rare cases would children of non-affinity parents be born with Aether Affinity.
Not to mention that William was born with Excellent Grade affinity, while Samuel had Medium Grade, which was still above Low Grade.
’There must be something strange about Samuel’s body. Even in the future, when he became a Star Warrior, his body was still weak.’
William went through his memories again and finally realized what he needed to do.
Once Samuel finished washing the dishes, he stood up and called out to him.
"Come with me. We are going out for a bit."
