Chapter 3: Trial

William looked at the status window that had opened before his eyes, and a deep frown appeared on his face.

"It’s different from the normal status window that everyone possesses," He muttered under his breath.

Then, he thought of something and shifted his attention to his body.

Until now, he hadn’t carefully examined himself because Elena had been there.

But now that he looked at himself, he was immediately stunned.

"I don’t have any Aether Energy inside my body."

He stood up and walked toward a small mirror attached to the side of the wall and looked at his reflection.

As he looked into the mirror, a young face around sixteen years old, with green eyes and black hair, along with sharp facial features came into his view.

"Since I look around sixteen years old and still don’t have any Aether Energy, does that mean I have returned to ten years in the past?" William mused with narrowed eyes and shifted his attention back to his status window.

William read the contents of his status window once again and fell into deep thought.

After fighting for years and even experiencing death, his will had already become quite strong.

He wasn’t someone who would become flustered over every little thing.

Even though the contents of the status window were something he couldn’t have imagined even in his wildest dreams, he didn’t lose his composure and instead analyzed everything with a rational mind.

"First of all, my status is locked, which should be my real status window. It must be locked because I am currently just a normal human. Once I start absorbing Aether Energy and become a Star Warrior, my status—such as traits, titles, and other attributes should be unlocked."

William shifted his gaze to the inheritance section, and a deep frown appeared on his face, as it was the first time he had seen or heard anything about the inheritance of a god.

Though he couldn’t understand how he had ended up inheriting the God of Time’s power, it wasn’t difficult for him to understand its contents.

’Become a Star Warrior before the Aether Affinity Test next month and kill some monsters, or I will be sent back to that battlefield. Since I am already dead out there, it simply means I either become a Star Warrior and kill some monsters within a month... or die.’

William took a deep breath and looked at the reward for completing the trial.

The reward seemed simple, but its meaning was enough to make anyone’s mind freeze.

’My soul will not be repelled by the current timeline. Now it’s confirmed that I have somehow ended up returning to my body from ten years ago, when I was just sixteen years old.’

Even with his strong will, William couldn’t help but feel turbulent waves surging within his heart.

He couldn’t comprehend what level one had to reach to be able to send someone back in time, and even allow them to remain in that timeline.

Not to mention, the trial required him to walk on a path that would literally change the original timeline.

’If I were to change a lot of things in this timeline, then what would happen to the original time line?’ This thought suddenly came to William’s mind, but not even a second later, he threw it away.

’All the people I care about either died or were living miserably in that timeline. Even if the original timeline were to collapse, what does that have to do with me?’

William’s thoughts cleared, and he finally focused on the main issue.

’How did I end up getting the God of Time’s inheritance?’

He recalled the question Leon had asked him just before his death, and his eyes narrowed.

’If I am not wrong, there is a ninety percent chance that my current situation is related to that guy...’ He muttered inwardly, and another question arose in his mind.

’If it is because of him, then how did he do it? And more importantly, why did he send me back instead of going back in time himself?’

William knew nothing about the small pearl that Leon had placed inside his wound, so he was naturally confused about his current situation.

But then again, although confused, it didn’t stop him from feeling excited.

After all, who wouldn’t feel happy about getting a second chance that could change their life for the better?

’Since it’s most likely because of Leon that I am getting this second chance, I will also do what he asked of me on his deathbed.’

William recalled the favor Leon had asked of him just before dying and took a deep breath.

’For now, my first priority is to become a Star Warrior and secure my place in this timeline.’

He recalled how long it had taken him to become a Star Warrior in his previous life.

’If I remember correctly, after being found out that I possess an excellent-grade Aether Affinity, I was successfully admitted into Scarlett Academy. But even then, it took me a full four months to become a Star Warrior.’

He thought about the one month of time he had now, and instead of feeling afraid, his lips curled into a faint smile.

’Normally, it would have been impossible for someone like me, who currently has no resources to become a Star Warrior within a month...’

He looked at himself in the mirror one last time before walking out of his small room.

’Too bad for my enemies... I am not a normal guy.’
