Chapter 35: Overload

"William, come out! I found the heirloom we talked about this morning."

William was still immersed in the joy of successfully obtaining one of the Titan Ape’s abilities when Karl’s voice came from outside his room.

"Coming!" He shouted in response before immediately taking off his sweat-soaked clothes.

"Mom is definitely going to scold me for changing clothes so many times in a single day..." He muttered under his breath as he quickly poured water over himself to wash away the sweat.

While cleaning himself, he analyzed the information about the Titan Ape’s ability that had just appeared in his mind.

Because his status window was still locked, he couldn’t view the ability’s complete details. However, the information that had been imprinted in his mind still gave him a rough understanding of the ability he had obtained.

"Overload..." William raised an eyebrow after analyzing the ability.

Using Overload, he could unleash a terrifying attack at the cost of exhausting all of his physical strength and stamina.

It was like a fully charged attack, one that condensed every ounce of his physical power into a single devastating blow.

After seeing the ability, William couldn’t help but feel somewhat disappointed that he hadn’t obtained the Titan Ape’s Berserk ability instead.

That ability was truly overpowered. It increased the Titan Ape’s strength in proportion to its rage and the injuries it sustained.

Moreover, other than consuming a bit more Astral Energy, it had virtually no side effects.

The amount of Astral Energy William possessed was already far greater than that of ordinary people because of the Supreme Star Scripture. If he had obtained the Titan Ape’s Berserk ability, his combat strength would have increased tremendously.

"Well, you can’t always have the best of both worlds..." William shook his head.

Although he was somewhat disappointed that he hadn’t obtained Berserk, Overload was still an excellent ability.

Even though he couldn’t use it casually because it would leave him completely exhausted after a single attack, it was an excellent trump card to keep in reserve.

William’s current physical strength was already extraordinarily high. If he were to use Overload and unleash an attack by sacrificing all of his physical strength at once, even he wasn’t sure just how terrifying its power would be.

Within a minute, William finished cleaning his sweat-soaked body and changed into a fresh set of clothes.

’I will wash those clothes myself later...’ He thought as he glanced at the clothes he had taken off.

Just as he was about to leave his room, William suddenly noticed something, causing the corners of his eyes to twitch.

"Mom is going to kill me for sure..."

He walked over to his bed and saw several deep holes in the mattress, as though someone had driven their hands straight into it.

Not only that, but on the cement floor beside the bed were several faint footprints leading toward the bathroom.

The floor was made of solid cement, yet he had still left shallow footprints on it while walking to the bathroom earlier.

Actually, William possessed extremely precise control over his strength because of the memories from his previous life. After all, the strength he had possessed in the future timeline was incomparably greater than what he currently had.

As such, adapting to a sudden increase in physical strength normally wasn’t difficult for him.

However, because he had been on the verge of passing out earlier and desperately needed water, he had unconsciously failed to control his strength properly, damaging the mattress in the process.

Not to mention that he had been walking in such a hurry that he hadn’t paid any attention to the force behind each step.

"Good thing that even though I wasn’t in the right state of mind, I still controlled my strength fairly well. Otherwise..." He turned to look at the bathroom and shuddered.

If he had accidentally broken the bathroom door or the water tap, his mother would definitely have chased him around the house with a slipper in her hand.

After thinking for a moment, he flipped the mattress over so the damaged side was hidden underneath.

As for the footprints on the floor, he had no solution for the moment and could only hope that Elena wouldn’t notice them.

Before leaving his room, William decided to test his newfound strength.

He grabbed the edge of his bed and tried lifting it.

It felt no heavier than a small bag of vegetables and without the slightest effort, he easily lifted the entire single bed with one hand.

’My current physical strength is definitely greater than that of an ordinary early-stage Star Warrior.’

William made a rough assessment before carefully putting the bed back down.

If he damaged it any further, forget about being beaten with a slipper—he was certain his mother would hang him upside down from the tree in the backyard and beat him until his backside resembled that of a monkey.

After leaving his room, William carefully closed the door behind him so no one would notice the evidence of his crime.

As he walked outside, he saw Elena busy preparing dinner while Karl and Samuel were sitting on a rope cot outside the house, enjoying the cool evening breeze.

William walked over and noticed that Samuel was curiously holding a small statue in his hands.

The statue wasn’t large, only about the size of a person’s palm, and appeared to be carved from a dark gray stone.

It resembled the statue of a man wearing a long robe.

The statue’s face was blurred beyond recognition, and it seemed to be holding a staff or something similar in one hand.

"Is this the heirloom you were talking about?" William asked as he looked at the statue in Samuel’s hands.

"Yes." Karl took the statue from Samuel and rubbed away some of the dust on its surface. "This is the heirloom that has been passed down in our family from generation to generation."

As he spoke, he stretched out his hand and handed the statue to William.

"Take a look for yourself. It’s just an ordinary statue. That’s why I completely forgot about it after putting it away."

William didn’t respond. He silently accepted the statue and carefully examined it.

Just as Karl had said, he couldn’t find anything special about it.

It appeared to be carved from stone, although he couldn’t identify what kind of stone it was made from.

Even the statue’s face was too worn to recognize, making it impossible to determine who it represented.

Other than confirming that it depicted a man, there was nothing else he could identify.

’Was my guess wrong? Is this really just an ordinary statue?’ William couldn’t help but wonder after failing to discover anything unusual.

However, the instant this thought crossed his mind, the statue in his hand suddenly trembled slightly, and he felt a sharp jolt inside his head.

Before William could understand what was happening, his vision was swallowed by darkness.
