Chapter 1325: Chapter 1325: At Least You’re Self-Aware
Seeing Ryan Taylor and Evelyn Taylor get out of the car together, Thomas Fisher looked utterly stunned, but he quickly wiped the surprise off his face.
"Ryan! Didn’t you go to the movies with Lily today?" Thomas walked toward the siblings, teasing his second brother as he came over.
"I figured meeting you today is more important than a movie." Ryan wasn’t in the mood to joke around. He shut the car door and walked up to him.
Seeing the serious look on his brother’s face, Thomas instantly guessed something was up. He hurriedly put away his joking smile, straightened his expression, and strode forward.
"Ryan! What exactly happened? Did Uncle and Auntie find out that my relationship with Evelyn is fake?" That was the only thing he could think of; besides that, he couldn’t imagine what else it could be.
"What?!" Before Ryan could open his mouth, Evelyn, who had been walking behind him, took a big step forward and blocked his way. "Ryan! Mom and Dad found out that Thomas and I are just pretending to be a couple?"
Because she was so shocked, her eyes went wide and round.
Ryan lowered his head and glanced at Evelyn, who was standing in front of him, then silently shifted his gaze to Thomas, who had already stopped walking. "You can’t possibly be as naive as Evelyn, right? Actually thinking your little act fooled everyone."
Looking at his best buddy, he was certain his buddy couldn’t be that naive.
"You don’t have to make it sound so nice. Just say I’m stupid." In Evelyn’s view, this "naive" her brother was talking about was definitely not a compliment; she was sure he was calling her stupid.
Being called stupid obviously made her unhappy. Who would be happy about that? She lifted her hand and smacked her brother.
Ryan pulled his gaze back from Thomas and looked impatiently at his sister standing in front of him. "Not bad, at least you’re self-aware. You’re not beyond saving yet. I—"
"What are you talking about? Are you really my brother? What kind of brother goes around insulting his sister like that, calling her stupid in such a roundabout way?" Before Ryan could finish, Evelyn couldn’t take it anymore. She raised her hand and smacked him again, this time harder than before.
Ryan frowned at Evelyn, then walked around her and went up to Thomas, continuing their earlier topic. "You should have noticed that your dad saw through you two from the very beginning, right?"
Just now his dad had personally admitted that both fathers knew. He figured, with his buddy’s perceptiveness, Thomas would have picked up on it.
"Uncle Taylor also knew we were faking it from the start?" Thomas didn’t answer Ryan’s question; instead, he threw another question back. Even though he asked, he already knew the answer without needing Ryan to say it.
Ryan didn’t toss the question back like Thomas had. He simply nodded at his best friend. "Yeah. My dad saw it from the beginning, and so did yours."
He laid out the reality of the situation they were facing, hoping the other man would make a reasonable judgment and response.
"You mean Dad and Uncle Fisher both knew from the very beginning? We acted so well, so convincingly—how is that even possible?" Evelyn still refused to believe it was true, still convinced her performance had been flawless.
Hearing that, Ryan snapped back, "You? Acting well and convincingly? You think you’ve got Lily’s acting chops?"
