Shenyan ran up the stairs and the hallway. When he was in front of Eden’s room he was about to knock but he stopped when he heard a sound. His panic only intensify and he entered the room in a hurry. He ran to Eden and held his hair back as he threw up. When he was done Eden sat on the ground exhausted. Shenyan immediately said his eyes flashing with worry:
"I’ll get the Imperial physician."
"Don’t just call the maids so I can get cleaned up."
Shenyan looked at Eden who had his head down.
He knows that Eden is knowledgeable when it comes to medicine he’s even the one who helped him when he felt sick this morning but he doesn’t want to leave him like that.
"Please."
He gave up on the idea when he heard the sound of Eden’s voice. He didn’t just look physically exhausted but mentally too.
"I’ll go get them."
Shenyan nervously paced in front of the chambers until a few maids came out. He was about to ask if Eden could speak to him when a maid said:
"His highness said to come in."
He entered and closed the doors behind him. Eden was sitting on the bed with covers on him. He sat at the edge of the bed and asked:
"Are you okay?"
Eden nodded with a smile.
"I’m okay I must’ve eaten something that didn’t agree with me."
Despite hearing that Shenyan still looked anxious. Eden moved a little and tapped the bed next to him.
Shenyan felt a little stunned but he sat. He looked in the distance and after a few seconds, he looked at Eden.
"Can you promise me something?"
Eden nodded with a smile. Shenyan turned his head, he felt that he would be unable to ask Eden for that promise looking into his eyes. He looked down and murmured:
"No matter what happens with my father you won’t abandon me."
Eden looked at Shenyan and felt his heart clench.
He couldn’t help but hear his father’s previous words. He knows that he is right, leaving his hubby would already be hard enough without adding Shenyan. This pure unconditional love he felt for his children is the same he does for Shenyan. He’s the closest thing he had to a son before he had any children he just didn’t know it. It kills him that he didn’t have a mother who cared for him, he doesn’t even understand how anyone could not love him. Eden turned his head.
"No matter what happens I swear I’ll never abandon you."
Shenyan eyes moistened and he hugged Eden. Eden wrapped his arms around his shoulder. After a few seconds when he let go of Shenyan thought that he wanted space but he just put the covers over him and held him again. He smiled when he felt him kiss his head. He trusts Eden he knows that he’ll never break his promise. Before Eden, he had no idea what maternal love felt like.
Even if he feels grateful to have his father the relationship you have with a mother is different. He wishes Eden was his mother, things would’ve been so much different. Even if he wants his father and him to be together he wants Eden more in his life. He can’t be without him and he won’t let anyone take him away.
They both looked up when they heard someone coming in. Yecheng couldn’t stop himself from smiling at that picture. He felt the need to capture this beautiful image. Eden let go of Shenyan and said:
"You should go to bed and I left you a potion don’t forget to drink it."
Shenyan let go of Eden and nodded.
"Thank you, good night."
Eden caressed his head.
"Good night my love."
Shenyan left with a smile and Eden’s eyes softened.
Yecheng walked to Eden, he lifted the covers and took his hand. He helped him out of the bed and pulled him to his chambers. Eden followed him silently. Once they were in the chambers he pulled the covers and helped Eden lay down. He took off his dragon robes and lay behind him. Yecheng hugged Eden from behind.
"Is everyone gone?"
"They are."
Eden felt Yecheng’s hand going lower until it reach his stomach and he caressed it. Yecheng asked apprehensively:
"Are you two okay?"
At that question, the last bit of strength Eden had left him and his veil fell off. Yecheng turned him and pulled him in his arms. Every sob of Eden was more heartbreaking than the one before. Eden pulled back and he wiped his tears. Eden bit his lip and said:
"I felt this pain in my stomach and I..."
More tears fell and he couldn’t say more. This is the worst-case scenario and he didn’t believe it would happen with Versem as his backer. He realizes that it’s harder in this era but he never thought it would be his reality.
He knows that sometimes you just lose the baby without anything happening before but he never thought it would happen to him. He sat up and took a deep breath. Yecheng sat up he pulled Eden on his lap and hugged him tightly. Eden lay on his chest. After a few seconds, he pulled back and looked at Yecheng. He wiped the tears on his face, he looked just as heartbroken as Eden.
"I’m sorry this is all my fault."
Eden frowned.
"What are you talking about?"
Yecheng said:
"I knew you were pregnant, I don’t know why but I had this feeling a couple of days ago. I wanted to give you time so you can tell me when you’re ready. Instead of keeping you calm, I stressed you and now you lost the baby."
Yecheng’s tears kept pouring and his head was down like he didn’t dare to face Eden. He caressed his cheek.
"It’s not your fault or anyones. As terrible as it is those sorts of things happen there’s nothing you can do about it."
He felt better when he saw the relief on Yecheng’s face. Before it was like he was drowning and it seemed like he finally reached the surface. He hugged him and caressed his nape. He pulled back and met his eyes.
"We already have a child and maybe in the future, we can have another one."
Yecheng’s eyes moistened again.
"I don’t deserve you."
Even if these were the same words Cael had said to him the night he entered this universe they were from Yecheng.
Eden kissed him tenderly and murmured:
"I love you."
Yecheng looked at Eden stunned. He felt a lump in his throat and when he could speak again he said:
"I love you more."
Eden smiled and kissed him again.
He and Gege have been through so much and he knows they’ll get through this too. Maybe they weren’t meant to have a child in this life because they already have one. Who knows? His heart aches but he knows that as with everything else time will heal the wound. He’s been through hell and back so this won’t kill him. This time around he has his hubby, father, and Shenyan so everything is going to be alright. They both lay down again and fell asleep in each other’s arms.
Xinjie put down her tea cup and stood up when her father walked in. She smiled.
"Father."
Kuang smiled and took a seat. Xinjie sat down, she could tell that her father was in a good mood which only made her happier. She can’t stop picturing Eden choking and leaving the banquet upset. Today he’ll finally be gone once and for all. She asked:
"Is everything ready for tonight?"
Kuang smiled.
"It is I already have the drug and I’ll make sure he ingests it and kill that brat Shenyan in front of everyone."
He was planning to have Eden kill Shenyan in private but he changed his mind yesterday when he saw him walk the stairs to the throne. Plus it would be so much better if anyone saw it with their own eyes. He can’t wait to see what Weilong will do.
He doesn’t understand how Eden was able to make it this far in politics by being so naive. He gave him an elixir of life without asking anything in return. He even had someone send him a potion this morning. He drank it and felt better than he has in years. Eden might be good at making potions and elixirs to improve someone else but it is nothing compared to the one his friend makes. He has more than forty years of experience and he’s able to create poisons that control minds. Once Eden ingests it he’ll have to bow to every dark thought on his mind. He wasn’t sure if his friend could have him just target Shenyan but this morning he said that he could. Tonight Eden and Shenyan die. Kuang smiled cruelly.
