As soon as the court ended Eden went to the emperor’s imperial study. Once a guard let Yecheng know Eden was let in. He looked at Yecheng who was sitting behind his desk writing a brush in his hand and next to it an inkstone. Eden said:
"Your majesty I was wondering if it would be okay if I was late to the banquet celebrating the spring festival?"
Yecheng narrowed his eyes at Eden but he didn’t react. He stood up and walked to him.
He asked after wrapping his hands around his waist:

Eden circled his neck and said with a smile:
"Your majesty."
Yecheng smiled, this warm majesty was the same Eden gave him when they were in court while before it was cold. He pulled him closer and said:
"I prefer when you call me Gege."
"I know but I can’t exactly call you that when we are surrounded."
Yecheng thought and said:
"Call me Gege all the time except when we are in court."
Eden looked at him skeptically. Yecheng leaned in and kissed him, Eden kissed him back and for a long time, they stayed in each other’s arms. Eden pulled back and met his mesmerizing green eyes. They were full of love and devotion. He felt his heart beating faster and said:
"I will."
Yecheng smiled, he doesn’t care if the entire empire knows about it, he loves Eden and he’s never going to hide it.
He frowned thinking about their living situation. He’s never been happier since he moved and he knows that Shenyan feels the same but Eden is still keeping some distance. He never sleeps with him at night. Before him, he couldn’t stand having someone in his arms as he fell asleep but now he can’t stand sleeping without him. He knows he screwed up that’s why he’s working hard to show him that they can be together but it makes him sad to think that Eden still doesn’t believe in him. Yecheng looked down not wanting Eden to see the sadness in his eyes.
Eden lifted his head and caressed his cheek.
"What’s wrong?"
It doesn’t matter if Eden doesn’t see his face their bond is so strong that he knows when he is upset. Yecheng smiled and answered:
"Nothing."
"Didn’t you say that you wanted us to be in a real relationship?"
"I do."
"For it to be real you have to be honest with me about how you feel."
Yecheng looked at him unsure then he looked away and said:
"It’s nothing I just don’t like falling asleep and waking up without you."
He felt that it would be better not to look into Eden’s eyes, he’s taking things slower because of him, and yet here he is being ungrateful when he’s giving him a chance. He looked at him stunned when Eden said:
"I don’t like falling asleep and waking up without you either so let’s fall asleep together now."
He felt his heart beating faster in excitement. Eden never opened up to him or said how he feels so he’s happy to hear that. He kissed him tenderly but he kept breaking the kiss because he couldn’t stop himself from smiling. Eden pulled back and smiled. His eyes flashed in amusement and he asked:
"Gege why are you so silly?"
Yecheng held him tighter and answered:
"Because I love you."
Eden looked at him in silence but his cheeks were flushed. Yecheng’s eyes softened and he kissed his red cheek.
"I love you so much."
Eden still didn’t answer, he felt even more uncomfortable. On a normal day, he always feels shy when Gege confesses but he can’t say it back which makes it even more uncomfortable.
Eden buried his warm face in his chest and Yecheng laughed. He knows that Eden is just taking precautions after what happened, he’s okay with that he’ll wait as long as he has to. He caressed his head and said:

Eden felt his heart beating faster and couldn’t stop himself from smiling. He turned his head when someone entered. He immediately let go of Yecheng and took a step back when he saw who it was.
Weilong ignored the emperor and looked at Eden angrily. Eden was stunned he’s never seen his father get angry at him. He looked at Yecheng and said:
"I should go Shenyan is waiting for me."
Eden walked out but before he could leave his father held his wrist. Fuck! Eden looked at his father.
"We’ll talk."
Eden nodded and left in a hurry.
Once the door was closed Weilong turned around and looked at Yecheng. His eyes were full of hostility. Yecheng looked back nervous, he sat and said:

Weilong sat down.
"I came because we need to talk about Eden."
If he hadn’t seen what he just saw he might’ve been inclined to be respectful but not anymore.
Yecheng nodded. Weilong said:
"As you know I was almost killed at the border and the assassins were killed but whoever plotted my death is still walking free. Eden is my son which already makes him a target but now that he is living in the imperial palace he’ll have even more people after him. The only reason I agreed with him staying there is that I know how much he loves Shenyan and I trust him but I don’t want anything to happen to him."
Yecheng said:
"I can assure you that he is safe here. He has guards who follow him everywhere."
Weilong sneered:
"Do you really think guards can compare to assassins?"
The training the guards follow isn’t comparable to soldiers or fighters in any way so, of course, he doesn’t trust them with his son’s life.
"They can’t that’s why I also have my shadow guards secretly trailing them."
Weilong narrowed his eyes.
Yecheng reassured:
"I know how you feel about your son because this is how I feel about mine. The shadow guards have been keeping Shenyan safe since he was born and nothing ever happened to him. I promise Eden doesn’t risk anything with them at his side. I would never let anything happen to him."
Weilong looked at him intently.
"I believe you."
Yecheng relaxed when he heard that but it didn’t last long until he became stunned.
"In any case, if anything happens to him I’ll burn this entire palace to the ground."
Weilong stood up to leave. There’s nothing to talk about with Yecheng he’ll have a conversation about what he saw with Eden. Before he opened the door Yecheng stood up and called:
"Weilong."
He turned around and met his eyes.
"I know that you don’t trust me but I love Eden."
"You and I both know the reason why you married."
Weilong stood in front of him and said:
"Your wife and her family tried to kill me, they failed but we both know they’ll try again. Once they are done with me or even before they’ll try to kill my son. I only offered Eden because I don’t care if I die as long as he is safe. Do you think I wanted my son to marry someone who had a wife and a harem?"
Yecheng swallowed.
"How am I supposed to believe you love him when you are surrounded by all your concubines?"
Yecheng said:
"Just like I told Eden that I’ll prove to him that we can truly be together I’ll prove to you that I love him. I’ll deal with the Miaos once and for all and disperse the harem I swear on my son’s life."
After a few seconds, Weilong nodded. If he swore on his son he knows he will. Weilong turned around and left.
When he was gone Yecheng sat back. He never thought he would ever feel this nervous in front of Weilong. He’s just glad he’s willing to give him a chance because he’s not going to give up on Eden no matter what.
Eden looked at his reflection in the bronze mirror then he left the imperial palace. He has something to do before the banquet for the spring festival. Eden got in the carriage and stopped in front of a house. He put on his cloak and hood and got down. Eden knocked and a woman looked at him with a huge smile. You could see how relieved she was.
"Please come in my lord."
Eden smiled and entered. She led him to a room and Eden saw a man lying on a canopy bed.
Eden sat at his side and smiled. The man was immobile and he could only blink. He pulled out a vial and poured it into his mouth. Eden tilted his head back so he would swallow when he was sure he did he poured another elixir. He helped him swallow again and helped him sit.
After a couple of minutes, whispers could be heard. Eden stood up and the woman immediately sat at her husband’s side and asked shocked:
"Did you say something?"
The man tried to speak again and over time his voice came back. He cleared his voice and looked at Eden. He said with tears in his eyes:
"Thank you for giving me my life back."
Eden smiled.
"It’s my pleasure. Make sure you don’t strain yourself the next couple of days then you’ll be back to a hundred."
The man stood up with the help of his wife, it was difficult because he hadn’t walked in a few months already. Once he was finally stable he stood in front of Eden and said:
"Thank you."
"You don’t have to thank me if I can help I will. I’m sorry I have to go but don’t forget what I said."
The man said:
"I won’t."
The woman hugged Eden tightly and he hugged her back.
"Thank you it was so hard without him."
"You’re welcome."
Eden pulled back and gave her a bag then he left. The man and woman opened it and were shocked to see the amount of money in it. They ran to thank Eden but he was already gone.
Eden leaned back and smiled cruelly as he thought of the man who had been following me secretly, now it’s time to deal with Kuang.
