After training the rest of the day, Xiaoshu and Kian went to shower before dinner. Kian felt much better after having fought for hours.
He feels excited about the idea of killing aliens. He’s never been in a universe like that before. It’s true that at first, he was nervous, but now that he’s seen what he can do, he isn’t anymore.
When he was done showering, he knocked on Xiaoshu’s door. He got out and they walked to the cafeteria. They both grabbed a tray and stood in line.
Kian looked around for a free table when they were served. When he saw Tan waving at him, he acted as if he hadn’t seen him.
Xiashu looked at Tan and then at Kian.
"Someone is waving at you."
Kian looked at the table he was in, and saw that he was surrounded by four alphas. He’s never met such an attention whore before.
Kian said:
"Let’s go sit there."
Xiashu immediately shook his head.
"You go, I’ll sit somewhere else."
Kian looked at him with pleading eyes.
"Please don’t leave me alone with them."
Xiaoshu chuckled and said:
"Fine let’s go, but you owe me."
Kian smiled.
"Deal."
The two took a seat in front of Tan and an alpha. On each side was an alpha as well. Kian smiled.
"Hello, I’m Kian. This is my friend Xiaoshu."
Xiaoshu smiled at Kian. He’s glad he already considers him a friend. He likes him a lot. The alpha each said their name, but Kian couldn’t care less.
Tan tends to hang with dubious people, so the fact that they are friends shows what kind of people they are. Kian started to eat.
Tan took a bite and looked at Kian.
"I can’t believe you already made a friend."
Kian simply said:
"En."
Xiaoshu looked at Kian and then Tan. His words were clearly a dig. Tan said:
"You’re usually always alone. You kept telling me to stop going out all the time, and you wanted me to stay by your side always."
Xiaoshu frowned when a few people chuckled. They’re filmed, so clearly Tan wants to humiliate Kian. What kind of best friend is he?
Kian looked up and said:
"I’m usually always working after school because not only do I pay for our rent alone, but I pay for both our fees to Bei Academy. Despite me having to pay for everything because you wanted to avoid working, I still proposed that the two of us train together before the trials. But as always, you preferred to go out and have fun. You should be happy that I’m so diligent, or you wouldn’t be at this trial."
After saying that, Kian resumed eating. Tan’s face turned red in humiliation. When he talked, he had spoken loud enough so the table next to theirs heard.
Kian’s voice was also loud enough for everyone to hear. He can’t believe he humiliated him like that. Tan made him swear he wouldn’t tell anyone he paid for his fees.
He looked down when he felt everyone looked at him differently. The whole galaxy will know now. He coughed and asked:
"Kian what are you talking about?"
Kian looked up and met his eyes. He looked around and saw that everyone was looking at him.
He blinked and then looked at Tan with wet eyes.
"I’m sorry, I forgot you didn’t want me to say anything. It just came out. Please don’t be angry."
Everyone felt bad seeing the fear in Kian’s eyes to lose his friend. Tan looked at Kian and could tell he didn’t mean to imply that out loud.
His fear of losing him was palpable, and he looked close to tears. Minglan who was sitting at the table next to it, stood up and took a seat next to Kian.
She smiled and said, after putting a hand on his shoulder reassuringly:
"Of course, he’s not angry. Right, Tan?"
Everyone was waiting for him to say he wasn’t. It was clear that they all felt sorry for Kian. Tan smiled.
"Of course not, you’re my best friend."
When Kian smiled with shiny eyes, they all smiled. Tan smiled as well, even if he was furious inside. He looked at Minglan wondering why she would even speak for Kian.
He already hated her for being engaged to Shaotian, but now he hates her even more. Kian looked at Minglan and smiled back at her.
Even if what she had done could be seen as nice, Kian knew that she only did what she did, because they are filmed.
He can feel that she doesn’t like Tan. Minglan is very territorial when it comes to Shaotian, and she was angry when Tan took his defense.
She can tell he likes him. As they say, the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Kian asked:
"What’s your name?"
She said:
"I’m Minglan."
"It’s nice to meet you, I’m Kian."
Minglan smiled and said:
"I know who you are, everyone does."
Kian blinked confused.
She chuckled and said:
"The briefing."
Hearing that, Kian’s face reddened, and he looked down uncomfortably. Everyone couldn’t help but laugh.
Xiaoshu smiled.
"Don’t worry, I told you I’ll help you be less impulsive."
Kian nodded with a smile.
Tan looked around and saw that everyone was looking at Kian. He’s sure that he’ll be the most seen on the show. How much attention does he need?
Tan smiled and said:
"You’re usually not that impulsive. It seems like private Bei hit a nerve."
Tan glanced at Minglan and then at Kian. Kian said:
"It’s not him, I just had to work hard and sacrifice a lot to be able to participate in the trials. You know that I never had time for myself since I always worked. I would rather not mess up this wonderful chance. My hard work can’t have been in vain."
Xiaoshu said:
"It won’t be. You were remarkable during training. I don’t doubt that you’ll pass all the trials."
Kian smiled, touched, and said:
"Thank you."
Xiaoshu hugged him and he hugged him back.
Tan felt pissed that he managed to turn the situation around. He wanted him to say something negative about Shaotian, so Minglan would lose it.
Minglan sneered inwardly at Tan. She’s never met someone as transparent and pathetic as him. When Kian pulled back, she said:
"Shaotian just looks fierce, but he cares about his soldiers. Trust me."
Kian nodded with a smile. Tan finished eating in silence as everyone fussed about Kian. Never in his life was he angrier.
When he finished eating, he left for his quarters. He changed and decided to go train, to get rid of his anger. When he got out, someone hit him.
Kian said:
"Sorry, I wasn’t looking where I was going. Are you okay?"
Tan was so angry that he pushed him and Kian fell to the ground.
Kian looked at Tan incredulously, and so did Xiaoshu. Tan ignored him and left. Kian’s eyes filled with tears, and he stood up, with Xiaoshu’s help. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
Xiaoshu asked:
"Are you alright?"
Kian swallowed and nodded.
"I’ll see you tomorrow."
Xiaoshu looked at him go worriedly.
Kian closed his quarters behind him and his eyes darkened. He can’t wait until he can deal with Tan. The only reason he didn’t strangle him, is that they’re always filmed.
There are cameras everywhere on the ship too. When he’s done with him, he’ll wish he never laid a hand on him.
