When Atlas opened his eyes again two days had passed. He checked Versem and was stunned when he found out how long he’s been out. He learned his lesson the hard way. He’ll never get rid of his feelings ever again.
He only brought himself heartache and he might lose his Er-Ge. He sat up and looked around the room. His eyes softened when he saw Yuning sitting behind a desk working.
He saw in Versem that he spent every second at his side. The only time he would leave the room was when he had to eat. Tan came too and wanted to stay as well but Yuning told him that he would let him know when he wakes up.
Atlas called:
"Er-Ge."
Yuning looked up and his eyes flashed in relief when he saw that he was awake.
He sat at his side and asked:
"Are you okay? Are you still in pain?"
Atlas shook his head. His eyes moistened and he swallowed.
This person is the only one who’s ever cared about his well being yet he thought that his life would be better without him. When a tear fell on his face Yuning wiped it.
He moved closer and asked:
"What’s wrong?"
"No one’s ever taken care of me beside you."
Yuning felt uncomfortable hearing that. He pulled Atlas in his arms and he hugged him back. When Atlas felt him caress his back he tightened his hold. Yuning felt his heartbeat quicken.
Yuning looked into Atlas’ eyes and caressed his cheek. He swallowed when he saw the softness in his eyes. Is Atlas done running? He realized those two days of seeing him like that that he can’t let him go.
He won’t, it doesn’t matter if Atlas runs away he’ll always run after him. He’s his he knows it, he’s never been more sure of anything in his entire life. The second their eyes met Atlas had his heart.
Atlas murmured:
"Thank you for taking care of me."
"I would do anything for you."
The words had left Yuning’s mouth before he could think because it’s the truth. Atlas bit his lip then murmured:
"I would do anything for you too."
Yuning felt his heart beat even faster. Atlas isn’t running anymore. He’ll take things slowly so as not to scare him away. He doesn’t want him to panic and he’s sure he will if he founds out that he already loves him.
He’s never fallen in love with anyone before and he never thought he would fall this deeply. It’s like his feelings for Atlas are ingrained in him.
He asked:
"You would?"
Atlas nodded. He would it’s just a fact at this point and he’ll do anything to get him back. He can’t lose Er-Ge. He has to talk with him.
Yuning felt incredibly happy to hear that. They both pulled back when they heard:
"Atlas you’re awake!"
Tan ran to Atlas and Yuning stood up so he would sit next to him. He stood at the side looking at his brother’s relieved smile.
Atlas caressed his head and asked:
"Were you worried?"
Tan shook his head but he knew he was.
He pulled him closer and held him in his embrace. Tan held onto him, he wanted to stay at Atlas’ side too but his brother told him to focus on work.
He feels relieved that Atlas is okay. He likes him a lot and he is the only person besides Yuning who doesn’t fear him or treat him differently. Atlas asked:
"Why are you still awake it’s late?"
Tan pulled back and said:
"I told someone to let me know when you’re awake."
Atlas smiled at him, that kid acts like an adult. He’s pretty sure he threatened someone to let him know since Yuning told him to stay away.
Yuning smiled as well he isn’t surprised but he knows that he’s been worried and could barely focus. He understands since he felt the same.
Atlas asked:
"What are you doing tomorrow?"
"Archery."
He asked:
"Can I join you?"
Tan immediately nodded with shiny eyes.
Atlas smiled.
"You’ll have to teach me like riding."
Tan smiled.
"Of course."
Atlas’ eyes softened and he kissed his forehead. Tan froze and he blinked rapidly. Atlas caressed his flushed cheeks and said:
"You should go to bed."
Tan nodded and said:
"Good night."
"Good night."
After saying goodnight to his brother Tan left. Yuning took a seat next to him and looked at Atlas. Atlas grabbed his hand and asked as he played with it:
"Were you worried?"
Yuning looked at Atlas playing with his hand and said:
"I was."
Atlas looked up. He swallowed and said:
"It won’t happen again I promise."
When Atlas felt a shift his heartbeat quickened. He felt Er-Ge’s consciousness but it was gone so fast that he could barely say something. That means he doesn’t have enough power yet to come forth.
He’ll find a universe with a strong concentration of power next so they can speak. He just hopes that he believes him. Yuning looked at their hands when Atlas laced them and couldn’t stop himself from smiling.
Atlas looked at his lovely smile in a trance. Er-Ge should never be sad or upset at him. He should always have a smile on his face. He asked:
"Did you sleep here?"
Yuning nodded even though he felt a little nervous that Atlas might find it inappropriate. Atlas asked:
"Will you stay tonight even if I’m awake?"
Yuning pulled him in his embrace and said:
"I’ll stay I won’t leave you."
Atlas relaxed hearing those words.
He’s been so scared those past days that Er-Ge might leave him.
"Promise?"
"I promise."
He feels needy right now but he can’t help it. He made the biggest mistake and it might cost him the only one he’s ever loved. If in the end, he decides to never be with him again he just wants to enjoy those moments.
When Yuning felt Atlas tighten the hold on him he smiled. He feels like Atlas being sick these two days made him change his mind. Even if he is glad he’s worried he might change it again.
He doesn’t want to push him but he does feel nervous and he doesn’t like to walk on eggshells.
"I have to tell you something."
Atlas pulled back and met his eyes. Yuning said:
"The offering will be changed. We already found a new volunteer and she will be announced on the night of the ball."
Atlas simply nodded, he isn’t sure what he should say. It means that he’ll be out of Yuning and Tan’s life in a couple of days after the ball. Being at the palace he could at least get closer to Er-Ge but he can’t even do that anymore.
This is such a mess. Yuning frowned, he thought that Atlas would be happy.
"Do you wish you would stay the offering?"
Atlas shook his head and said:
"No, I just..."
He felt unable to say it looking into those eyes. He looked down and murmured:
"I just won’t be at the palace so I won’t be able to see you and Tan anymore."
Yuning smiled and lifted his head. He held his chin and asked:
"Didn’t I just promise that I won’t leave you?"
Atlas nodded.
Yuning said:
"I want you to stay and I know that Tan does too. Will you?"
Atlas nodded with sparkly eyes.
Yuning’s heart turned into a puddle when he saw how happy he looked. Atlas asked:
"Can I have something to eat I’m hungry?"
Yuning smiled.
"I already sent someone to get you something."
A few minutes later the imperial physician checked Atlas. He smiled at him and said:
"Your fever is gone and you should be back to 100 after a good night of sleep."
Atlas nodded and said:
"Thank you."
The physician smiled and looked at Yuning.
"Can I please have a word, your majesty?"
Yuning looked at Atlas and said:
"Eat your food I’ll be right back."
Atlas nodded and started to eat. Once Yuning and the physician were out of earshot he asked:
"What’s wrong?"
The physician said:
"After analyzing the offering’s blood I found something peculiar."
"What?"
He said:
"Despite being a human he has the vampiric gene in him."
Yuning felt stunned, he thought and asked:
"Does that mean he can be turned easily?" freeweɓnovel.cѳm
The physician said:
"The gene can be triggered if he ingests the blood of a vampire after he bites him. They’ll be no risk and the turn will take since he has the gene in him. Technically Atlas is a vampire, not a human."
Yuning looked down thinking. Turning a human into a vampire is extremely hard. Only the originals can turn humans into vampires because of their strong essence. But even then it doesn’t take all the time.
But since Atlas has the vampiric gene it is sure to take. Even if he didn’t Yuning would have never stopped to try to turn him. He wants to spend eternity with him. He let out a relieved breath.
He’ll just turn him and then think about them being together, what’s most important is to make sure he turns. His eyes flashed with determination.
