Chapter 21: Vice Captain Kael
The surrounding hunters instantly tensed upon seeing the silver-haired young man.
"Vice Captain Kael..." one of them muttered under his breath.
The silver-haired young man ignored them completely.
His sharp gaze remained fixed on Amon from beginning to end.
Meanwhile, Amon merely glanced at him indifferently before continuing forward.
Since Kael was only at D-rank, Amon was confident he could handle him.
Kael’s brows twitched faintly.
No one had ever ignored him this blatantly before.
Especially not after recognizing him.
"You’re quite arrogant for someone currently under investigation," Kael suddenly spoke.
Amon’s footsteps paused for a brief moment.
The surrounding atmosphere instantly tightened.
The hunters nearby subconsciously distanced themselves.
Amon slowly turned his head.
His calm eyes landed on Kael.
"Move."
That single word caused several hunters’ expressions to shift violently.
Kael narrowed his eyes before letting out a low chuckle.
Interesting.
Very interesting.
"You massacred over thirty people publicly, and now you’re illegally clearing dungeons without authorization." Kael casually rested the black spear against his shoulder. "Do you really think the Association will continue pretending you don’t exist?"
Amon stared at him silently and gave no reply. Instead, he continued walking calmly as though Kael hadn’t spoken at all.
The surrounding hunters sucked in cold breaths instantly.
One of them nearly choked.
Kael’s smile vanished.
A dangerous pressure slowly spread from his body.
Cracks spiderwebbed across the snow-covered ground beneath his feet.
"You’ve got guts," Kael said coldly.
"Unfortunately, guts alone won’t keep you alive."
Boom!
A powerful mana fluctuation erupted from Kael’s body instantly.
The surrounding hunters quickly retreated with alarmed expressions.
D-rank.
A genuine D-rank hunter.
Amon’s coat fluttered lightly beneath the pressure, yet his expression remained unchanged.
Instead... his eyes sharpened slightly.
The Winter Frost Blade trembled faintly in his hand.
Not from fear.
From excitement.
Kael noticed it instantly and sneered.
"You want to fight me?"
Amon still didn’t reply.
Instead, he calmly raised his blade.
The answer was obvious.
The surrounding hunters’ scalps instantly went numb.
Was this madman seriously planning to fight a D-rank hunter?
Kael laughed, but there was no amusement in his eyes.
"Looks like the rumors were true. You really are insane, Butcher!!!"
The next instant...
Boom!
Kael vanished from his position and the ground exploded beneath his feet.
Fast!
Several hunters couldn’t even follow his movements with their eyes.
But Amon could.
Clang!
Sparks exploded into the air as the black spear slammed violently against the Winter Frost Blade.
The shockwave shattered the surrounding rocks into fragments and sand.
Amon slid backward several meters, his arm numbing slightly from the impact.
Strong.
Far stronger than the beasts he had fought today.
Kael’s eyes flickered with surprise.
"You blocked that?"
Amon didn’t respond.
Instead...
His mana surged violently.
A pale black aura slowly wrapped around the Winter Frost Blade.
The temperature of the surroundings plummeted instantly.
Several hunters began trembling uncontrollably beneath the pressure Amon exuded.
Kael’s expression finally turned serious.
Because for the first time...
He sensed danger from Amon.
Suddenly...
A phone rang loudly.
Both of them paused.
One of the Association hunters hurriedly answered the call, and his expression drastically changed after only a few seconds.
"Vice Captain Kael!"
"What?"
"A large-scale dungeon break just occurred in the central district!"
"What?!"
The hunter swallowed hard before speaking, his voice carrying faint horror.
"It’s... it’s a B-rank gate."
Silence.
The expressions of everyone present changed instantly.
Even Kael’s face darkened.
A B-rank dungeon break inside the city?
That was a disaster capable of wiping out entire districts.
Kael glanced at Amon, hesitation flashing briefly through his eyes, but he knew he didn’t have enough time to deal with him now.
"Everyone! Move toward the central district immediately!"
The moment he gave the order, the surrounding hunters rushed into the vehicles, engines roaring to life before speeding off into the distance.
Within moments, the area fell silent, leaving only Amon behind.
Glancing at the empty surroundings, Amon thought back to the earlier situation.
After pondering briefly, he realized that clearing dungeons during the day truly carried too much risk of attracting the government’s high-ranking forces.
His eyes flickered with contemplation.
Ultimately, he decided to postpone the raid until nightfall.
’That would be the best time for this...’
Suppressing his anticipation toward obtaining the clone, Amon quickly left the location.
After changing back into his work clothes, he arrived at the mine.
Seeing him, Mark looked slightly surprised.
"What’s up, man? Didn’t you say you had something to do and wouldn’t be able to come today?"
"Yeah, I did, but I ultimately changed my mind," Amon replied with a faint smile.
Picking up a hammer along with several excavating tools, he turned toward Mark.
"Which mine are we excavating today?"
"The boss said there’s a new mine that was just discovered. I was waiting for Jake to arrive before heading there, but since you’re here, there’s no need to wait."
As he spoke, Mark slung a bag over his back and signaled for Amon to follow him.
...
The day passed uneventfully.
Although many people were shocked that the Butcher had begun clearing dungeons within the city itself, the emergence of the B-rank dungeon completely suppressed the commotion he caused.
B-rank dungeons were terrifying.
As the ranks of hunters and beasts increased, so did the overwhelming disparity in strength between each realm.
A B-rank dungeon containing an A-rank boss monster was something most forces simply couldn’t handle.
As such, the entire country fell into a state of panic, deploying countless hunters and military forces to curb the outbreak.
...
While all this chaos unfolded...
Inside an abandoned warehouse.
A young man draped in a black leather jacket slowly placed a mask over his face.
Moonlight filtered through the broken windows, casting pale streaks across the dusty floor.
Glancing at the desolate moon hanging in the night sky, he knew the time had come.
Moments earlier, he had called his wife and informed her that he would be returning late tonight, so he didn’t worry about her becoming concerned.
Retrieving the Winter Frost Blade from the system storage, the young man exhaled slowly.
Then his eyes sharpened beneath the mask. freeweɓnovel.cøm
Because tonight...
It was time for the Butcher to act.
