Chapter 91: Chapter 91
Kyra’s POV
I never expected luck to find me when I was struggling to survive in a foreign country. Looking back, I’d say the Moon Goddess was watching over me, guiding me through my darkest days. Being a single mother had been more challenging than anything I’d ever faced, but for my little pup, I refused to give up.
Five years had passed, and my life was finally stable. I had a steady job, thanks to Martha’s daughter, who recommended me to her boss. For two years, I’d been working in an event organizing company under the Event Operations Department. Now, I was a hospitality coordinator.
"Congratulations, Elle. You deserve the position," my colleague said, using the name I’d adopted in the human world.
I smiled at my teammates. They were always happy for each other’s success, just like a real pack. These humans had become good friends to me. Although rumors were inevitable, I was proud that I’d climbed this high through my own strength and determination.
Our company had expanded, and now several of us were being transferred to a new branch in my home country. Going back wouldn’t be easy, especially after everything that had happened. But this was always my plan—to return when I was ready. Now, I was, and I refused to run away again.
"Miss Dee, come to my office." It was our boss, Mr. Walter, a man six years my senior, serious and cold as winter. He never smiled, which was why other departments seemed to hate me. They believed I was sleeping with him.
Truthfully, I’d started as a janitor in this company. Someone in HR must have noticed my work ethic and recommended me for a promotion. After eight months of scrubbing floors, I was appointed as the Event Director’s assistant. And just now, our company president surprised me by appointing me as a hospitality coordinator in the new branch.
I was blessed, and I knew I deserved this. My wolf agreed, preening with pride at how far we’d come without our pack’s protection.
"I really think Mr. Walter likes you," Mary, Martha’s daughter, whispered. She was also being transferred like me, working as an event coordinator.
I pinched her side and she just smirked. "Shut up, Mary!"
I watched Miss Dee, our team leader, follow Mr. Walter into his office.
"You’re single, right? Why don’t you ask him out?"
I glared at Mary, and she giggled before walking away. I honestly didn’t understand why she kept pushing me toward Mr. Walter. Yes, we were both single. But I could not date again, not when Nathan’s scent still haunted my dreams, when the phantom pain of our broken bond ached in the quietest moments. The mate bond might have weakened with distance, but it hadn’t disappeared. He had likely married his fated mate by now, so there was no chance left for us.
When I got home, I heard my little pup’s soft voice.
"The princess met the prince."
Martha laughed. "Our baby is so bright! You already know the story, huh?"
I rested against the wall, inhaling the comforting scent. "I’m exhausted. I think I need my vitamins."
"Mommy!" freewebnøvel.com
Snow ran to me, and I immediately scooped her into my arms. She showered kisses all over my face as I laughed and accepted her love, her familiar scent calming my wolf.
"How’s my little pup?" I whispered, using our private term of endearment.
She smiled sweetly and innocently. "I cut ten hearts, Mommy."
"Really?"
She nodded excitedly and asked to be put down. When I complied, she ran to the coffee table and proudly presented a box containing ten carefully cut paper hearts.
While she became distracted by her toys, I sat on the couch, watching her. Martha joined me.
"Did you accept the position your boss offered?"
I nodded. "Yes. Besides, I think it’s time for me to go back."
Delight sparkled in her eyes as she smiled. "I’ll always support you, Elle. I’m glad you’ve finally found forgiveness in your heart."
She knew nothing of my true story. Martha assumed I’d run from Snow’s father, typical of the dramas she watched. If only she knew I was running from an entire pack, from a mate who chose another, from a stepbrother who wanted to claim me for power.
I’d seen and experienced the worst, so I’d prepared myself to face the pain and horror when I returned. I knew what to do. And I definitely knew who my enemies were. Though I’d been away for five years, I’d kept tabs on certain developments.
Kieran had grown more powerful by marrying Emily. He now managed my father’s Monroe Group of Companies and almost all of Emily’s family businesses. His position as Alpha of Raven Shadow Pack had strengthened, his territory expanding as his business empire grew. Their pack operations had infiltrated multiple industries, creating a network of loyal wolves across the corporate landscape.
Nathan thrived as president of ADE, the top fashion media company that served as Nightfall Pack’s public face. Under his leadership, the pack had taken control of the fashion industry, using its glamorous facade to hide their true nature. Their wolf members moved through high society as models, photographers, and designers, gathering intelligence while maintaining their secret identities.
His personal life remained strictly private. I wasn’t sure if he’d actually married Sophia, as my sources never confirmed a formal mating ceremony.
The nostalgic feeling of returning home was undeniable. As soon as I stepped off the plane with Snow sleeping in my arms, my heart raced wildly. Sylvia grew restless, recognizing the familiar scents of our homeland.
"Elle, do you know the address of the company dorm?" Mary asked, following me. We were the only two arriving today. The rest of our team would come the day after tomorrow, as we started next week.
I handed her Miss Dee’s address. The new branch location was a relief, far from both Nathan’s pack territory and Kieran’s business circles. With both alphas active in this country, I couldn’t be too careful.
While Mary called for a taxi, I scanned our surroundings, a habit I’d developed to identify potential threats. My heart nearly stopped when I spotted a familiar figure exiting the airport. freeweɓnovēl.coɱ
My eyes widened as I turned away. Was he on the same flight?
Shit!
I quickly ducked into the taxi Mary had called, glancing back to see Nathan’s father entering his car, flanked by bodyguards. Even at this distance, my heightened senses caught the distinctive cedar and leather scent of the Nightfall Pack’s elder.
He didn’t see me, right? I hoped not. The last thing I needed was for news of my return to reach Nathan before I was ready.
"Elle!"
"Huh?"
Mary frowned. "I said we could dine at a restaurant for lunch."
I shrugged. "I’ll just order delivery. I need to unpack, and Yuki is still asleep."
Snow’s human name remained Yuki, though my friends now knew her true name was Snow. I had to reveal it after teaching her to write her name. However, we used my grandmother’s last name for safety, making it harder for anyone searching for us.
When we reached the company dorm, I immediately laid Snow on the bed. The unit was suitable for one person and sufficient for Snow and me. However, I needed to find someone trustworthy to watch Snow while I was working—someone who wouldn’t ask questions when my daughter’s eyes occasionally flashed gold or when she growled in her sleep.
My phone beeped while I was unpacking clothes and watching Snow play on the bed. I expected a message from Martha, but instead found a text from an unknown number: ’I think you’re ready for revenge. Want some help?’
