Chapter 45: Chapter 45

Kyra’s POV

"Why did you do that?" I forced the words through clenched teeth, Sylvia’s growl vibrating in my chest as I struggled to keep my wolf under control. My three pack employees hovered nearby, muscles tensed to intervene at my slightest command. But this was my fight. I wouldn’t drag my pack into personal drama.

"Is this how you treat your customers?" Sophia sneered, her own wolf’s scent spiking with aggression. "Turning your back on them?"

Sylvia snarled in my mind. She’s no customer. She’s here to start trouble.

"Why? You want to buy my flowers?" I arched a brow, letting just enough of my Alpha bloodline’s dominance seep into my voice. "Unfortunately, I only sell to those who genuinely want my products."

She gritted her teeth. "Don’t act so high and mighty, Kyra. You’re still the same pathetic orphaned she-wolf who couldn’t keep her mate. You’re trying so hard to soar high and reach my level, but you know you can never equal me in any aspect."

I laughed sarcastically as I faced her completely. "I’m not trying to equal you because, from the very beginning, I was above you—proven by how you rushed here accusing me of some ridiculous bullshit instead of tending to your own failing mating bond. You’re just finding someone to blame, Sophia."

"Don’t play innocent!" Sophia’s voice rose to a shriek, her wolf’s energy making the flower petals tremble. "I know you’re trying to steal my fated mate!"

"Are you really accusing me of that, Sophia? Are you that scared of your own shadow? You think I’ll stoop to your level just to get back at you? I’m not childish."

"Quit acting so clean, Kyra! Nathan hasn’t been coming home and he won’t answer my calls. You are hiding my mate!"

I smirked. "Now I get it. Let me tell you one thing..." I paused and leaned in to whisper, "Karma is a bitch."

"You are the bitch here, Kyra!"

I tilted my head. "Maybe. Perhaps I’m your karma?"

Her slap came faster than expected, but Sylvia’s reflexes were faster. I caught her wrist mid-air, using the momentum to shove the crushed petals into her mouth. I wasn’t violent by nature, but when I was provoked like this, I wouldn’t sit back and cry in a corner. I would fight for myself—especially for my pup.

Sophia stumbled back, her wolf’s startled yelp echoing in the sudden silence as she fell onto the floor.

Somehow, I felt pity as I looked at her. She was crying on the floor, cursing continuously and pushing all the ruined flowers away from her.

For a moment, I saw my younger self in her tear-streaked face—that desperate, love-blind she-wolf who had prioritized a male’s affection over her own worth.

I was so blinded by my love for Nathan that I forgot myself. I always put his happiness over mine and forgot that I had dreams and goals in life.

Nathan was good to me. He treated me fairly and kindly, but he didn’t love me. He gave me everything: his support, his attention, his effort, but he lacked one thing—love. He didn’t love me the way I loved him, and now I was seeing my old self in Sophia.

How did a successful woman end up like this? So crazy over a man that she’s losing herself?

Too much love. I think that’s the problem. The unrequited love that’s so toxic and deadly. No one’s to blame but ourselves, as we’re the ones who brought ourselves to this situation.

"Nathan hasn’t contacted me again, Sophia," I lied as I looked down at her. "If you want your relationship to work, you should trust him."

She shook her head. "Just admit that you’re secretly meeting him, Kyra!"

Rage was visible in her eyes but I was too exhausted for this nonsense. My wolf, Sylvia, growled low in my mind, equally weary of Sophia’s dramatics.

"Nathan and I are done, Sophia," I said flatly. "The Moon Goddess herself couldn’t reunite us now. You know he chose you as his fated mate. There’s no way he’ll still see me, and there’s no fucking way I’ll still meet him. We don’t have feelings for each other. Why come barking up my tree when you should be discussing this with your precious Alpha?"

Sylvia snarled. She reeks of insecurity. No true Luna would behave this way.

Sophia’s nostrils flared at my words. "How can I talk to him when he hasn’t returned home in days? When he ignores every mind-link?" She slammed her palms on my florist counter. "Don’t play innocent! I know you still want my mate!"

I shot an eyebrow up. "Seriously? Why would you bring up my feelings when you’re the problem here? Instead of talking to him, you are here, accusing me. You should trust your partner, Sophia. A relationship won’t work if you don’t trust each other, and all you can do is point a finger and find someone to blame."

She was lost for words. She stared at me, anger still visible in her eyes, but I could see she had calmed down somewhat. For a moment, I thought she got my point, but she didn’t. She angrily pulled herself up and threw a small black notebook on the table in front of me. The scent of Nathan—mint and pine—wafted from its pages.

My forehead creased when I saw some of the pages in the notebook. My lips parted in shock after realizing that it was Nathan’s diary, and that he had written on one page that he realized he was in love with me and wanted me back.

"Now tell me that I don’t have the right to accuse you."

Sylvia whined in my mind as I read Nathan’s scrawled confession of love. No. This can’t be true. He rejected us! The pages trembled in my hands. If he wanted me back, why had he severed our chosen mate bond?

He realized that he loves me right after I left? That’s ridiculous! He must have mistaken guilt for love.

I forced my wolf’s anguish down, meeting Sophia’s gaze steadily. "I don’t care what he wrote. If you want to keep your fated mate, be worth staying for. I’ve moved on—harder than the way he fell for me. I don’t want any more connection with you because I’m happy with my life now."

Sophia was about to grab me when security came. She angrily looked at me and I stared at her blankly. My mind was bothered by the diary but I was so done believing his words. Nathan’s feelings are so chaotic. I don’t want to believe him anymore. freeweɓnovel.cøm

"Are you okay, Miss Kyra?"

I looked at my employees and smiled at them. "Please clean the mess and calculate the damage."

"I should follow her for the charges—"

"No need," I cut one of my employees off.

"Miss Kyra?"

"I’ll take care of the damage. Can you please arrange another bouquet? Our client will pick it up by 6 PM. We don’t want to disappoint our client, right? I’ll just rest for a bit in my office."

"Yes, Miss Kyra. I’ll bring you snacks in a minute." freewёbn૦νeɭ.com

I smiled and nodded. "Thanks."

I massaged my temple as I went to my office and sat on my chair. I thought this day would be calm and peaceful like usual, but Sophia just had to ruin my mood and my business.

It was already 6:30 PM when I decided to go home. Ana sent a mind-link to me that she was just going to meet her mother at the mall and reminded me that she had already cooked my dinner. It was a good decision to bring Ana with me. At least I had someone to do the house chores while I was at work.

I picked an apartment as my rental home. My unit was on the second floor, and I slowed down as soon as I reached my apartment.

My former Alpha sat slumped against my door, his usually impeccable appearance disheveled, the sharp scent of whiskey clinging to him.

In his hands was a bottle of liquor, Nathan looking so miserable and lonely.

My heart started beating like crazy as soon as he lifted his face and our eyes met. His confession in his diary popped into my mind again and it made me still. I couldn’t move in front of him.

He was sitting on the floor, looking up at me, while I was frozen in place, looking down at him.

To my shock, tears rolled down his cheeks as he kneeled and held my hands. "Kyra, please come back to me..."
