Chapter 44: Chapter 44
Kyra’s POV
I’ve been eating my meals in secret. I had to blackmail Ana into helping me lie to the pack members in this house, so the news would reach Kieran. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
Sylvia huffed in amusement. "Blackmailing an omega to lie to her Alpha? You’re playing with fire."
It was a risky move, but if manipulating Kieran’s protective instincts could get me out of this gilded cage, so be it.
Using my own health against him might work, so I pretended I hadn’t eaten all day, hoping it might nudge his conscience.
I was sitting on the bed, locked inside my room. I was so bored here. I wanted to go out, but I had to sacrifice a little. I had to rebel so Kieran would let me go. I really wanted to start a life on my own, and I wouldn’t be able to do that if he kept holding me by the neck and caging me in his world.
The night was approaching, but I was still waiting for Kieran’s decision. Though I would insist on moving out even if he didn’t agree.
The door suddenly swung open just as I was about to give up. Kieran’s Beta entered. I was expecting Kieran, but he didn’t come.
His posture stiffened. "Miss Kyra, Alpha Kieran has granted permission for your relocation. You may move out, but he strictly instructed that you must remain within the city borders." He avoided my gaze as he delivered the message.
Sylvia perked up. "Checkmate."
A smile slowly crept across my lips when I heard that. I nodded at him and he immediately left. Just then, Ana entered the house.
"You heard that, Ana?" I asked, my hand instinctively resting on my growing pup bump.
She smiled happily. "Yes, Miss Kyra."
My brows furrowed when she suddenly gave me a sad face, her scent shifting to worry. "What’s wrong?"
She held my hand. "Take me with you, Miss Kyra. You’ll need a maid, and you’ll need help with the pup anyway. I won’t ask for extra wages. Just... don’t leave me here with Alpha Kieran." She shuddered. "His wolf... Ronan’s gaze alone makes my knees weak."
Sylvia growled protectively in my mind at the mention of Kieran’s wolf. "That overgrown mutt should learn to control his aura around lower ranks."
"Ana..." I called, chuckling softly.
She pouted and looked at me. "Don’t be angry with me, Miss Kyra. Alpha Kieran is just really scary when his eyes flash gold..."
I smiled at her. "Then come with me."
"Really, Miss Kyra?"
"Really!"
She gasped and nodded excitedly. "When are we moving out, Miss Kyra? I should start packing now."
I just smiled while she continued talking about all the things she’d do for me once we moved out.
The day I left the house finally arrived. I’d been looking for Kieran since our...discussion about my leaving, but couldn’t find him. How could I thank him for saving my life if he wouldn’t show himself?
My fingers tapped impatiently against the doorframe as I waited, my enhanced hearing picking up Ana and Kieran’s warriors hauling my belongings downstairs. The scent of cedar and musk—Kieran’s signature aroma—still clung to the walls, making Sylvia whimper softly in my mind.
"Stop that," I mentally chided her. "We’re leaving, remember? No more Alpha’s scent clouding our judgment."
I’d planned everything perfectly—leave this week, open the flower shop at the same time. A fresh start. A simple life where I could provide for my pup without pack politics or broken mate bonds. Yet I couldn’t help but wonder what would happen when my pup asked about her father. I didn’t know if I could answer that properly—or at all.
My hand instinctively cradled my swollen belly where my pup kicked restlessly, as if sensing my turmoil.
"What will we tell her about her father?" Sylvia’s voice echoed my deepest worry. Nathan had rejected us for his fated mate, leaving this pup without an Alpha parent. freewebnøvel.com
Kieran’s Beta approached, his submissive posture clear as he carried my last suitcase with his gaze lowered.
"Where’s Kieran?" I demanded.
"Alpha Kieran left for pack business, Miss Kyra," he replied formally, though I caught the faintest whiff of apprehension in his scent.
"Good riddance," Sylvia snarled, though her tail-tucked body language in my mind’s eye betrayed her true feelings.
I checked my watch—a nervous habit I’d picked up from my father—and sighed. Was he mad because I insisted on leaving? But I deserved to be free. I deserved the life I wanted.
Shaking my head, I walked out of the house and entered the car after the driver opened the door. I sat silently in the backseat while the warrior Kieran had assigned to accompany us took the passenger seat. Ana sat beside me, smiling excitedly. I just closed my eyes and sighed again.
I should have been happy, but I couldn’t be, not completely. Kieran shouldn’t affect me like this. This was how I started getting attached to Nathan. I couldn’t let him get under my skin. This wasn’t leading anywhere good.
A huge smile was plastered on my lips the moment I entered my newly opened flower shop. I already had staff there and they helped me with our opening event. The first day of the shop went well. We already had plenty of clients and customers, and it really distracted me from my stressful life. My beautiful life was beginning—a life without them.
My life had been peaceful for the past three days. I was busy with my business and taking care of myself. I had my weekly check-up the other day and the pup was healthy.
My phone suddenly vibrated. An unfamiliar number sent me a message, and I immediately realized who it was from.
’You bitch! You’re really a slut! Stop flirting with my mate! I let it slide the first time, but I won’t go easy on you this time!’
I rolled my eyes and tossed my phone on the table. It was obviously Sophia. And what? Flirting with her mate? Nathan was the one who had been trying to mind-link me and sending me messages since last week. He’d been asking me to meet him and it was annoying the hell out of me.
What did he take me for? Did he really think I’d still meet him after everything that happened?
As if I’d ever consider reuniting with the Alpha who chose his fated mate over his pregnant chosen one.
Aside from the fact his mother talked to me about him, I was busy fixing my own life. I wouldn’t let another rock hit my head.
I blocked Sophia’s number, just like I did with Nathan. I didn’t care about them anymore. I only cared about myself and my baby now.
The bell above my shop door chimed too sharply the next morning. Sophia’s overpowering perfume preceded her, the scent so thick it made my werewolf employees cough. Sylvia went rigid as the blonde she-wolf stalked toward me, her designer heels clicking like claws on the tile.
"Still playing the victim, Kyra?" Sophia sneered, removing her sunglasses to reveal eyes glowing faintly gold with rage. "A flower shop? How quaint. Couldn’t bear to leave Nathan’s territory completely, could you? You still want to get my fiancé’s attention, huh?"
I stared at her blankly. She looked furious, and now that I saw her eyes up close, I could tell they were having problems—and now she was taking it out on me. Pathetic!
I carried the bouquet of flowers and decided to just ignore her when she grabbed it and angrily threw it on the floor.
What the hell?
