Chapter 115: Chapter 115

Kyra’s POV

"One more cake, sweetie?" Snow immediately nodded while still chewing. I smiled and put another cake on her plate, adding extra chocolate syrup on top. Her eyes twinkled with happiness as she dug in.

We were having the sweets Nathan had brought last night for breakfast, and Snow was loving every bite.

After finishing my portion, I went to continue unpacking our things. I had chosen a two-bedroom loft-style condo for Snow and me—not too big, but perfect for us. The open layout meant I could easily see her wherever I was in the house.

"Mommy, you have so many friends here," Snow called from her dining chair.

"Do you like my friends, sweetie?"

"Yes! I especially like Nathan. He looked very kind."

That made me freeze. She liked Nathan the most. I wondered if she enjoyed the cake so much because it came from Nathan. What would happen if I told her the friend she liked was actually her father? Would she be upset with me?

Not knowing what to say, I just smiled at her. I was about to open another box when someone rang the doorbell. Setting down the cutter knife, I walked to the door. When I opened it, my lips parted in surprise as I saw two men standing there, both carrying paper bags from different pastry shops and wearing matching frowns.

I cleared my throat. "Ahem! Mr. Walter... Nathan..."

Nathan immediately smiled. "Good morning, Kyra."

"Good morning, Miss Monroe," Walter replied. "I was on my way to my office when I saw a newly opened pastry shop. I hope you like sweets."

"She definitely likes sweets, but particularly the sweets I bought," Nathan said with a hint of annoyance before smiling at me again.

I took a deep breath. Just because I didn’t want another relationship didn’t mean I should be rude. I opened the door wider. "Come in."

I heard groans behind me and turned to see them stuck, trying to enter at the same time through the doorway. Were they actually children?

"Younger ones first, sir," Nathan said arrogantly.

I palmed my forehead and shook my head. I knew Nathan became childish when jealous, and he wouldn’t let Walter win easily.

Walter simply shook his head and stepped back. Nathan seemed even more annoyed that someone would concede without an argument.

"Nathan!" Snow’s delighted voice echoed through the room, immediately changing Nathan’s expression.

He smiled broadly as he walked toward the kitchen and sat beside Snow, completely ignoring me.

"Oh! Was that the cake I brought last night?"

"Yes! It’s so delicious, Nathan. I liked it very much!"

I pressed my lips together as I watched them. Feeling Walter’s presence behind me, I turned and smiled. "Uh... would you like something to drink, Mr. Walter?"

He shook his head and lifted the paper bag. "I just came to bring this. I have so much paperwork at the office so I can’t stay long..."

"I’m sorry I couldn’t help you unpack," he added, glancing around the room.

"No, it’s okay. Thanks for the sweets."

"Yeah. It’s pretty much alright if you can’t help. I’m here, anyway," Nathan interrupted.

When I looked at him, he was watching us with a frown. I just shook my head and gave Walter an apologetic look. "Thank you again, Mr. Walter."

He smiled. "I’ve got to go, Miss Monroe. Bye, Snow."

"Bye, Mr. Walter!" Snow waved happily.

I smiled, watching my daughter. At least someone here wasn’t acting immature.

After Walter left, I placed his box of sweets on the island counter and turned to Nathan with my hands on my waist, giving him a narrow-eyed look.

"What?" he asked, avoiding my gaze.

"I think you should go to work too."

"You have work, Nathan?" Snow asked.

"Yes, sweetheart. I have work and I’m the boss," Nathan answered, looking delighted that Snow had given him an escape route from my glare. Not a chance, big bad wolf.

"You’re so cool!"

I shook my head and returned to unpacking. From the corner of my eye, I saw Nathan constantly glancing my way, clearly worried I was angry.

He was about to approach me when my phone rang. Seeing it was the lawyer, I immediately answered and sat on the couch. Nathan bit his lip and returned to Snow’s side, watching me carefully.

"Hello, attorney?"

"Kyra, I don’t think you need to buy all your dad’s property back."

My forehead creased. "What do you mean? You said I could get it back if I located the new owners and bought it back."

"Yes. The thing is... I have the ownership documents of your father’s properties, and these are all under your name."

My eyes widened. "How did that happen?" freeweɓnøvel.com

"It turns out your stepbrother, Kieran Carver, was planning to give everything back to you in the first place. Even the house that was once under your stepmother’s name is now under yours. He managed to get everything back to its original place."

I bit my bottom lip hard. Kieran put all of Dad’s properties under my name? He really had regretted what he’d done to me, but I wasn’t sure if I could forgive him yet. These were all mine to begin with. Why should I be grateful he returned what was rightfully mine?

I won’t forgive Kieran again, but...I think he still has a chance. He can still change, and I want to give that chance to him... to fix his life for himself, not for me or anyone else. I need to find him and talk to him. This has to stop, and if he still has a chance to change, he would listen to me. Somehow, I still believed that he could change because I somehow knew him, and I once treasured him in my heart and life.

"There’s something else," the lawyer continued. "The Raven Shadow Pack is currently without an Alpha since Kieran left. The Beta went with him, and the pack is essentially leaderless. As the legitimate heir, you’re entitled to temporarily assume the Alpha position until a permanent solution is determined. You can appoint a Beta to help you manage pack affairs."

I sat there stunned. Me, as pack Alpha? The thought hadn’t even crossed my mind. frёeωebɳovel.com

"Are you okay?" Nathan was suddenly beside me. I hadn’t even noticed him approach.

I looked up at him and nodded. "Yes. I’m fine."

"I’ll need a few days to process this information," I told the lawyer. "Thank you for letting me know."

After ending the call, I noticed Nathan watching me with concern.

"Everything all right?" he asked, his voice gentle.

I nodded slowly. "Just some... unexpected news about my father’s estate and the pack."

Nathan raised an eyebrow. "The Raven Shadow Pack? I heard they were having leadership issues."

I was surprised he knew about my family’s pack. "You follow wolf politics even outside your territory?"

"As an Alpha, I need to stay informed about neighboring packs." He paused, studying me. "Wait, are you saying—"

"My father was the Alpha," I confirmed. "But since females can’t inherit the Alpha position, Kieran became the pack’s Alpha. Now that he’s a wanted criminal, I have to temporarily manage the pack’s affairs."

Nathan’s eyes widened slightly. "Being an Alpha is demanding. Don’t you have a... company to run as well?"

"Like you’re one to talk," I countered. "Don’t you have Alpha duties to attend to rather than bringing pastries to my doorstep?"

He smirked slightly. "My Beta handles most day-to-day matters. I’m not here every day, you know."

I glanced toward the kitchen, making sure Snow was still occupied with her cake before turning back to Nathan. "By the way, is Walter a wolf too?" I asked quietly.

Nathan’s expression darkened slightly. "Yes. Same university as me, actually. He was a couple years ahead, more like a senior mentor to me."

"Look," Nathan continued, "I know you’ve got a lot going on. But if you need any help with the pack transition... I have experience."

I considered this for a moment. As much as I wanted to handle everything independently, having an Alpha’s perspective might be valuable. But I wasn’t ready to depend on Nathan again.

"I’ll think about it," I said finally.
