Chapter 521: Chapter 521

"The captain in charge of the squad Cerise is sending towards us just got into contact. They’ll be exiting hyperspace in under two minutes now."

Avery immediately perked up upon hearing this.

He had thought that Jasmine was getting his attention to deliver some bad news, but it turned out to be good news instead.

While he was using his powers, it had been impossible for him to keep track of time.

It had both felt unbearably long and incredibly quick to him. Almost as if the passage of time had lost most meaning during his extreme concentration.

"Good. How are our shields holding up?" Avery asked.

Jasmine frowned, and said, "We’re at around twenty-five percent capacity now. I know that that’s below where you told me to stat counterattack, but with the Alliance Police so close, I decided to keep up our disguise."

This was not what Avery had expected to hear.

He had not thought that Jasmine would disobey his order to fight back once their shields dropped below forty percent.

Still, if they could keep up the deception that they were just a cargo ship with solid defenses, hopefully they would be able to continue infiltrating the Odium Syndicate.

"We’ll talk about this more later. For now, we need to keep on the defensive until our backup arrives. Also, try sending more messages to our attackers. Tell them that the Alliance Police will be here soon and that this is their last chance to escape."

Jasmine nodded her head and got to work executing Avery’s orders.

While she did so, he checked reports he had received while focused on defending the Intrepid with his abilities.

The first thing that caught his attention was that two spies had been captured while trying to sabotage the ship’s systems. One by Olivia’s squad, and the other by Kaiden’s

Fortunately, neither of them had more than the basic access codes and were only able to do some minor damage.

The worst they were able to do was cause the internal transport system to briefly malfunction and enter maintenance and cause parts of decks twelve and twenty-seven to lose main power.

No major systems were too negatively affected by any of this as backup power had kicked in.

The thermal sensors had not been running at peak efficiency for a little while due to this, but that did not matter too much at the moment.

He soon found a report from Kasandra as well.

This one grabbed his attention more and his mouth started to hang open in shock the more he read.

She was apparently the one responsible for the sudden burst of energy he had perceived within the enemy’s ranks.

One of the Intrepid’s shuttles had been sacrificed for her ruse, along with one of the captured spies apparently.

’I’m definitely going to need to talk with her about this afterwards too. She did buy us a couple of minutes though, so I can’t be too upset. Even if she blew up one of our captives along with the shuttle.’

He found that she had also tampered with the Intrepid’s tractor beam embittered. She had left a command code to activate and force a reboot the next time it was activated.

Something that she had deemed necessary to sell her trickery.

"Oh, seems that some of our attackers are fleeing." Avery muttered, having kept one eye on the viewscreen while reading reports.

The Alliance Police were very close now, so it was no surprise that some of the extra fighters Douvoi had hired had picked up the approaching vessels with their sensors.

Attacking a lone cargo ship that only had strong shields and armor going for it was one thing, but tangling with the Alliance Police was another.

These mercenaries that were unaffiliated with the association and willing to pick up any job, no matter how unethical, knew that they were in for a world of trouble if they got caught by the Alliance Police.

A few of them already had bounties on their heads, so they were no strangers to being targets for the Dramid Alliance’s authorities.

From the communications that they were intercepting from Douvoi’s ship, Avery heard the man shouting at those that were running away to come back or they would regret it.

Naturally, none of the ones that were making their escape even so much as slowed down. They knew that this job had already failed, and while they might have had some degree of professional pride in their dishonest work, their lives came first.

It was not long before the nine Alliance Police vessel exited hyperspace. fгeewёbnoѵel.cσm

There were three corvettes, three frigates, two destroyers, and one light cruiser.

If Avery was being honest, this was not enough to guarantee their victory.

Their attackers had far greater numbers even if most of them were small or medium ships.

The only reason that the Intrepid had managed to hold out for so long against the one-sided assault was thanks to the carrier’s powerful defenses, Avery’s psionic powers, and Kasandra’s trick.

With only eleven percent shield capacity left, you could say that they were cutting it close.

Should their enemies decide to keep attacking despite the Alliance Police reinforcements, there was a good chance that the Intrepid could take some serious damage.

Thankfully, Douvoi did not push his luck.

Had his goal been to eliminate Kasandra and Kaiden, he would have pressed the attack an attempt to destroy the Intrepid.

Regrettably, his orders were to capture them alive, and that would prove exceedingly difficult now that the Alliance Police were involved and several of the hired fighters he had bought had fled.

Without much of an option, the man ordered a retreat as the Alliance Police blasted them from behind.

A message to surrender had already been sent out, and seeing as a fleet of ships was attacking a registered cargo vessel, the Alliance Police were free to treat them like priates.

"We managed to get through this." Avery said with a sigh of relief.

He slumped back into chair and let the tension drain out of him.

It had been close for a while there, but unforeseen attack was over now, and they had kept their cover intact.
