Chapter 1066: Chapter 742: The Grand Finale [13] So Young, Yet Already Living in Deep Waters and Scorching Fire
"Taken away by Alma Ferreira."
Having not heard the name "Alma Ferreira" for a long time, Nora Scott was stunned for a moment before she realized.
She asked, "What happened?"
As far as she knew, Alma Ferreira had been staying with the Ferreira Family ever since her divorce from Ernesto Woods. She would occasionally seek out Oliver Scott, but Oliver usually found various excuses to avoid her or let Marcus Shaw and friends cover for him. All in all, he minimized contact.
Lately, Alma hadn’t been causing any trouble.
Gradually, Nora had pushed her from her mind.
"She’s been frequenting Oliver more recently," Marcus Shaw admitted without holding back, "still about that issue."
Nora was taken aback, "Choices?"
"Yeah."
Marcus nodded.
Nora pressed her lips together.
Alma had always hoped Oliver would go into business. She believed academic research wasn’t profitable and that inheriting Ernesto Scott’s company would be better. Moreover, Alma was constantly worried that the return of Nora Scott to the family would divide the inheritance, causing her a strong sense of crisis.
This past year, Nora Scott had been constantly in the spotlight, with one achievement after another catching attention. In comparison, Alma’s pride in Oliver Scott and Sophie Scott had been overshadowed.
Alma was sure to become increasingly anxious.
Getting Oliver into business was the best solution she could think of.
But—
Oliver wasn’t her possession.
Oliver had his own ideas, interests, and passions.
These were things Alma couldn’t understand.
There’s no need to ponder; Alma repeatedly seeking out Oliver must say certain things. They were nothing but clichés that wouldn’t sway Oliver but instead affect his mood.
"Did she have to seek out Oliver before the College Entrance Examination?" Nora frowned.
"She probably doesn’t care about this, or maybe she can’t consider it from that angle," Marcus replied, "She’s a bit obsessed now."
Nora pondered for a moment, then said, "Keep in touch with Oliver at all times, if anything goes wrong, we’ll go over to get him."
"...Okay."
Marcus glanced at Nora’s belly, agreeing reluctantly.
—This matter should be reported to the brother-in-law first.
With Oliver not around, the two dishes Butler Loxley made for him went uneaten, so Nora asked Marcus to take pictures and send them to Oliver.
Marcus did as he was told.
Soon after, Oliver called back on a video call.
The two brothers chatted briefly, and then Nora walked over with a glance at the video.
"When are you coming back?" Nora asked.
Oliver thought for a moment and said, "The day after tomorrow."
Nora sat next to Marcus, crossed her legs, popped a washed raisin into her mouth, and said calmly, "Yeah. On the exam day, Pedro Langley and I will send you over."
"Really?"
Oliver’s eyes lit up.
"...Don’t you love sleeping in lately?" Marcus teased lightly from the side.
Nora shot him a cold sidelong glance.
Seeing this, Oliver quickly added, "My sister! Whatever time she says to get up, that’s when I’ll get up, I won’t delay a minute. Moreover, isn’t brother-in-law and Loxley also around?"
"Hmph."
Nora showed a bit of emotion in dissatisfaction.
"..."
Marcus simply chose not to speak.
"Have you eaten?" Nora changed the topic.
Asked about this, Oliver instinctively glanced at the bedroom door before coughing lightly and laughingly replied, "Yes."
Nora paused for a second.
She didn’t say much more.
She asked, "Are you at the Ferreira house now?"
"No, I’m staying at a place my mom has outside."
"Just you and your mom?"
"Yeah."
"How did your conversation go?" Nora asked.
"Same old, same old." Oliver scratched his head and then smiled, "But no worries, once I finish the College Entrance Exam, I’m going to the Northwest with my brother, apply for colleges from there when the scores come out, and then come back when the acceptance notices arrive."
Oliver had the itinerary well planned.
However, this also indirectly proves he and Alma couldn’t communicate smoothly, there’s no chance of mutual understanding.
"Okay."
Nora nodded.
Unable to convince Alma, the best solution was to escape from her and wait until everything was settled.
No matter what, Alma couldn’t possibly break Oliver’s leg and confine him at home once he got accepted somewhere.
The three siblings chatted for half an hour until the video call abruptly ended due to a hurried knock on the door behind Oliver.
"Sis, bro, talk tomorrow!"
Oliver cut off the call.
The video suddenly stopped and returned to the chat interface.
"Such young age, living under such pressure." Passing by, Pedro Langley commented while drinking water upon seeing this.
Nora grabbed a pillow and tossed it at him, "Talk properly."
"Isn’t it so?"
Pedro laughed while catching the pillow, questioning back.
Then, under Nora’s subtly threatening gaze, he restrained his smile: "Why don’t you let Oliver go along with Alma’s wishes, no matter what she asks, just agree first. And then change the plan during college application time."
"Is it necessary?" Nora asked.
"If Oliver continues to be obstinate, what if Alma goes crazy and wants to burn her bridges with him?" Pedro analyzed.
"..."
Nora was silent for a moment.
She didn’t know the specifics of Oliver and Alma’s situation, so she couldn’t offer precise advice.
After a moment of thought, she said, "Let’s talk about it later."
*
Though Nora planned to take leave on the two days Oliver and Marcus take their exams and fully accompany them through it, she couldn’t slack off on her work either.
It was neither too complicated nor too simple.
But she encountered a workaholic senior sister who inadvertently brought her into work mode. The originally planned eight-hour workday frequently turned into twelve hours without her noticing, only reacting once reminded by Pedro Langley.
The next day, after a busy day, Nora video called Oliver for ten minutes after dinner, confirming Alma hadn’t taken any coercive measures against Oliver, and didn’t mention Pedro Langley’s suggestion, forgetting to tell Oliver.
The third day.
The day before the College Entrance Exam.
