Chapter 785: Chapter 756: Gage Grant vs. Maeve [018]

Gage Grant let out a cold laugh, shifted his gaze to Diana Dalton standing in the living room, trembling with fear, and gestured for her to come over: "Come here, old hag."

Diana Dalton dared not approach, turned to run, but the door was already locked and wouldn’t budge.

The Eldest Dalton got up, ran to the door, and dragged Diana Dalton over.

Gage Grant turned and asked Maeve, "Where is Auntie’s urn?"

Maeve pointed to the shrine.

Gage Grant extended an index finger and pointed, signaling Diana Dalton to enter the shrine: "Go, bow one hundred times to Auntie."

Diana Dalton screamed, trembling: "It’s impossible! I’d rather die than kneel to her!"

The Eldest Dalton lowered his voice and urged, "Hurry up! Quickly!" As he spoke, he personally dragged her to the shrine.

With a thud, Diana Dalton kneeled before Maeve’s mother’s altar.

The Eldest Dalton pressed her head down, forcing her to bow repeatedly. It didn’t take long for her forehead to be covered in blood.

The floor was stained with Diana Dalton’s blood and tears.

Maeve watched everything unfold, a faint smile on her lips, and gently walked into the shrine.

After bowing one hundred times, Diana Dalton was in tears, trembling all over, mentally broken.

The Eldest Dalton, holding her down, turned to Gage Grant: "She’s finished bowing one hundred times."

Gage Grant nodded at Maeve: "If there’s anything else that’s bothering you, speak up, and I’ll take care of it for you."

Maeve looked at Diana Dalton and asked calmly, "When did you start seeing my father?"

Diana Dalton cried, "I forgot!"

Maeve understood; Diana was still dishonest. She looked at Gage Grant.

Gage Grant understood and said, "Bow another hundred times!"

The Eldest Dalton obeyed, pressing down on the back of Diana Dalton’s neck, ready to force her down again, when Diana suddenly broke down and screamed, "We got together before your mom died!"

Maeve had the answer, quietly walked out of the shrine. Gage Grant kicked aside The Second Dalton and followed her, keeping pace all the way to the living room.

The Dalton Brothers quickly stepped forward to help Diana Dalton up.

Gage Grant whispered to Maeve, "Settle everything now, don’t drag it on!"

Maeve nodded.

Gage Grant turned to nod at Director Langley, who immediately came over to sit down.

The Dalton Brothers realized what was happening and quickly brought Diana Dalton over to sit down.

Maeve said, "This house is for my mom; you need to leave, and you’re never allowed to come back."

Diana Dalton protested, "Your dad left his share to me! I’ll leave if you buy out my half!"

"Fine. I’ll have someone appraise it and then transfer half of the house value to you, but before I give you the money, you need to complete the paperwork with me."

"Deal!" Diana Dalton agreed readily, "Once I receive the money, I’ll move out immediately!"

Seeing Maeve remain silent, Gage Grant knew her issues were resolved, signaled to Director Langley, who immediately ordered the plainclothes officers nearby to take the Dalton Brothers and their henchmen away.

After the commotion subsided, Gage Grant asked Maeve to go upstairs, while he invited Director Langley outside for a smoke.

Standing under the eaves of the Lester Family’s villa, amidst smoke, Director Langley laughed, "This reminds me of something from a few years ago."

"What thing?"

Director Langley’s thoughts drifted back to years before: "At the end of ’18, Powers asked me to take care of a tyrant village chief under Wrayhaven County who had kidnapped a female lawyer from the United States. Luckily, her husband arrived in time, reportedly paying a large sum to rescue her. Isn’t this like tonight, arriving just in time to avoid a major incident?"

Gage Grant recognized this as Sienna Thornton’s affair, chuckled, glanced at Maeve tidying up the shrine, and said, "I don’t know what happened in Wrayhaven, but tonight I’m quite clear. If I hadn’t shown up, things wouldn’t be this big. They might have negotiated well initially, but as soon as I got here, those two brothers tried to act tough. Could I let them?"

Director Langley chuckled, patted Gage Grant’s arm, and advised kindly, "Don’t be so impulsive in the future."

Gage Grant chuckled, said nothing more, continued smoking while watching Maeve quietly clean the shrine.

After bidding farewell to Director Langley, Gage Grant drove his Range Rover into the yard, locked the garden gate, and just as he was about to go inside, he noticed Ethan Conrad lurking in the shadows.

This person was on the fringe, likely not a Lester Family member.

He gestured for Ethan Conrad to come over.

Ethan Conrad cautiously approached and bowed, "Hello."

Gage Grant sized him up and asked sternly, "What’s your relationship with this family?"

"I’m Diana Dalton’s boyfriend."

Gage Grant was slightly surprised, "How old are you? That old hag is fifty, isn’t she?"

Ethan Conrad smiled awkwardly, "I’m thirty this year."

Gage Grant was speechless for a moment, glanced inside at Maeve, then looked Ethan Conrad up and down, and growled, "Behave yourself!"

Ethan Conrad nodded hastily.

Gage Grant entered the house; Mrs. Chandler was tidying up the mess in the living room and at the stairs. Gage Grant went straight to the shrine.

Maeve was kneeling on a cushion, reciting scriptures.

He didn’t disturb her, quietly leaned against the door, watching her.

After about ten minutes, Maeve rose from the cushion, turned to see him, her eyes calm, undisturbed.

As she passed by him, she softly asked, "Where are you staying tonight?"

Gage Grant glanced at Mrs. Chandler and her son busy in the living room, leaned close to Maeve’s ear, and chuckled softly, "Since there’s a strange man in this house, I’ll stay with you tonight."

"Then come upstairs with me."

Gage Grant hadn’t expected her to be so straightforward, was surprised, then delightedly nodded, following her upstairs.

Once the door was closed, he immediately embraced Maeve, buried his face in her neck, inhaled deeply, then exhaled heavily.

"Have you showered?"

Maeve woodenly nodded.

He turned her body to face him, lowered his head to kiss her, and whispered hoarsely, "I’ll go get my change of clothes from the car, wait for me."

"Alright."

Gage Grant happily went downstairs, brought up a bag with his clothes, and found the door ajar.

He pushed it open.

The room was dark, but near the bay window, there was a flicker of a cigarette ember, and the air was filled with a faint hint of mint tobacco.

He placed the bag at his feet, walked over lightly, and hugged Maeve from behind, sensing her presence.

He kissed her ear.

After tonight, he knew these were the woman’s weaknesses and what she lacked.

"Do you know why women stay with men?" he asked.

Maeve remained unresponsive.

"Because men protect women when they’re at their weakest and most helpless," Gage Grant laughed, "Stay with me, you won’t suffer."
