Chapter 632: Chapter 632: You Want to Touch Me
Hearing this, Chloe Reed didn’t dare move another inch.
But she was holding a water cup in one hand, and being pressed into his embrace like this put her in an incredibly awkward and uncomfortable position.
Chloe Reed opened her mouth to speak, only to remember that she could no longer talk.
Her pretty brows knitted, and she began tracing words on his shoulder.
The cool touch of her fingertips was distinct even through the fabric. Walker Grant’s Adam’s apple bobbed.
Aren’t you going to drink your water?
Once he understood what she’d written, his arms relaxed slightly.
Chloe Reed immediately seized the opportunity to slip out of his embrace. She then helped him sit up by supporting his shoulders and placed the water cup in his hand.
Walker Grant took a couple of sips. The water soothed his dry throat, and his voice was no longer so hoarse.
"Chloe."
A few seconds later, Chloe Reed touched him gently to let him know she was there.
Walker Grant lowered his head slightly. His world was a field of darkness, so his hearing had grown more acute. Following the sound of her breathing, he knew she was sitting right beside him.
He said, "Don’t be afraid. I’ll do everything I can to get your voice back."
Chloe Reed hummed in acknowledgment.
Then, she took the water cup from his hand.
He heard the gentle clink of glass on the cabinet, followed by the scrape of a chair moving across the floor.
The rustle of fabric, the soft sound of her shallow breathing.
Walker Grant listened intently to it all. He turned his face toward the sounds. "Chloe, you’re right here, aren’t you?"
Chloe Reed stared at him in astonishment.
If it weren’t for the gauze wrapped around his eyes, she would have thought he could see perfectly fine!
’How is this man so ridiculously perceptive? Could he really pinpoint her location just by listening?’
Before Chloe Reed could react, the door to the room was thrown open.
"Walker! I heard you’re awake! You’re okay, right?"
Daniel Hayes’s gruff voice boomed. He stormed in like a whirlwind, pulled up a chair, and plopped down.
Then he looked at Chloe Reed. "Chloe, when’d you get here?"
The sound of keys tapping on a phone followed.
I came as soon as he was transferred here.
Daniel Hayes nodded. "I see. Looks like he’s mostly fine... except for his eyes..."
He stared at Walker Grant for a moment, then sighed.
"Did you forget what you promised me?"
But just then, a frigid voice cut in.
Daniel Hayes felt the air around him turn icy. He had been lounging in his chair, but the moment he heard that voice, he snapped upright.
His gaze flickered, and he didn’t dare to look directly at Walker Grant.
’Walker Grant was settling the score.’
He rubbed his nose and said hesitantly, "At the end of the day, I’m Chloe’s bodyguard. I’m supposed to listen to her..."
But his voice trailed off, losing its conviction.
"You knew it was wrong, yet you did it anyway. Just because she was reckless with her own safety, you just let her have her way?" Walker Grant’s voice grew even colder.
’If Daniel Hayes hadn’t been by Chloe Reed’s side this whole time, he definitely wouldn’t have let him off this easily!’
Daniel Hayes knew he was in the wrong, so he didn’t dare say another word.
Walker Grant was about to say more when his hand was suddenly grasped. Cool fingertips touched his palm, tracing something quick and frantic.
Walker Grant couldn’t make out the words. He gently caught her fingers. "Chloe, you’re writing too fast. I can’t tell what you’re trying to say. Do it slowly. I won’t interrupt."
