Chapter 624: Chapter 624: Still in the ICU

The expression on Dylan Finch’s face grew more complicated.

"Mr. Grant isn’t just blind," he said. "His chest wound is getting worse. He’s currently under observation in the ICU."

Chloe Reed’s heart skipped a beat. She subconsciously clutched the blanket in her hands.

She lowered her gaze, her long lashes trembling with uncertainty. Then, she threw back the covers, got out of bed, and started walking toward the door.

Dylan Finch rushed to support her. "Ma’am," he said, "you’re still very weak. You need to rest."

But Chloe pointed toward the door, gesturing that she wanted to see Walker Grant.

Dylan Finch said, "Mr. Grant isn’t out of danger yet. No one can go in right now. Let’s just wait out here. We can go see him once he’s stable; it’ll be the same then."

Just as he finished speaking, the door to the hospital room opened.

Daniel Hayes walked in. Seeing that she was awake, a look of delighted surprise spread across his face. "Miss Chloe, you’re awake! Are you feeling unwell anywhere?"

Chloe shook her head, pointed to her throat, and then waved her hand dismissively.

Daniel Hayes stared blankly for a few seconds before scratching his head. "Oh, right... The doctor told me your voice was lost due to poison. But don’t worry, we’ll definitely find an antidote. You’ll be able to speak again!"

He gently guided her to sit on the bed and said with heartfelt gravity, "The most important thing for you right now is to rest and recover. Don’t overthink things. Everything will be okay."

Then, he took out a cell phone and handed it to her. "This is your phone. I charged it for you."

Chloe took the phone and typed: [Thank you, Daniel. I just want to go see Walker Grant.]

After reading it, Daniel Hayes sighed helplessly. "No one can get in right now. Just wait here. We’re all keeping an eye on him, so don’t worry. Nothing will go wrong."

Chloe clutched her phone, finally just nodding to show she understood.

Daniel Hayes continued, "You haven’t contacted Grandma Sutton in a few days. You should let her know you’re safe. Don’t let the old woman worry herself sick in Breyburn."

Chloe nodded. She was, in fact, getting worried about the old woman.

But when she thought about her voice, a flicker of sorrow crossed her clear eyes.

She was a voice actor.

’She had been thinking that when all of this was over, if she was still alive, she wanted to continue her career in voice acting.’

’But now... she was mute. Her voice was completely ruined. How could she be a voice actor anymore?’

Her eyes began to sting. She blinked quickly, forcing her emotions back down.

She found her chat with her grandmother and sent a message.

But as soon as she sent the message, her grandmother started a video call. Chloe frantically declined it.

She then quickly sent her grandmother some recent photos.

Chloe Reed: [Grandma, I’m out having fun. The signal is bad, so I can’t video chat. Look, aren’t I pretty?]

’I’ll hide this for as long as I can,’ she thought.

Her grandmother sent a voice message right back: "You little rascal, why haven’t you messaged me in three days? Are you having so much fun you’ve forgotten all about this old lady?"

Her tone was affectionately chiding; the old woman was deliberately teasing her.

A smile touched the corners of Chloe’s lips as she continued to type.

Chloe Reed: [The scenery is just too beautiful! I wanted to take more pictures to send you. I’m thinking of you every single moment.]

Her grandmother’s voice message came through again: "You’re such a sweet-talker. Fine, send me a video when you get back to your hotel so I can see you."
