Chapter 621: Chapter 621: Liar
"Continue the investigation. Don’t let a single one slip through the cracks."
"Yes."
"..."
Chloe Reed felt uneasy under his intense gaze. She turned her face away, wanting to push him off.
"My wound hurts."
The next thing she knew, he was speaking.
Chloe Reed immediately stopped struggling. She frowned at him and asked, "Is your wound getting worse?"
"Chloe Reed."
But he didn’t answer her question. Instead, he gazed at her face with extreme intensity, saying her name.
Chloe Reed’s heart clenched. She avoided his eyes and said, "This isn’t the place to talk. We should..."
"Why did you choose to leave alone?"
But he held her tightly, his almond-shaped eyes fixed on her stubbornly, cutting her off and blocking her attempt to evade the topic.
Chloe Reed’s eyelashes trembled, but she didn’t answer him.
"You do care about me deep down, don’t you? You’ve accepted me again, right?"
Walker Grant couldn’t wait for her answer and spoke directly. With every word he uttered, his eyes grew a little brighter, as if fresh blood had been pumped into him, restoring his vitality.
"You’re reading too much into it."
A gentle breeze swept by, and with it came Chloe Reed’s voice.
She looked at him, her limpid eyes utterly calm, without a single ripple. Her tone was just as even. "I just didn’t want to drag innocent people into this. I didn’t just hide it from you; I also had Daniel stop the other bodyguards from following me. I even told Daniel not to follow me, but he insisted. I don’t want to get anyone involved. I don’t want to be responsible for anyone’s life. I..."
But before she could finish, Walker Grant suddenly lowered his head and kissed her lips with force.
"Liar,"
he mumbled, kissing her to stop her from saying any more of those heart-wrenching words.
Chloe Reed’s eyes flew wide in astonishment. She never imagined he would just kiss her like that, with so many people watching!
’He might be shameless, but she still has her dignity!’
She immediately shoved him away with all her might.
"Ngh..."
He clutched his chest, a pained expression appearing on his handsome face. His complexion paled, and his tall frame seemed to sway, on the verge of collapsing.
Seeing this, Chloe Reed’s expression froze for a second. She instinctively moved toward him, wanting to catch him.
’But then it occurred to her—could this be one of his tricks? A ploy to win her sympathy?’
’She wouldn’t fall for his act!’
She turned and started to walk in the other direction, but unexpectedly, a figure suddenly charged toward her.
"Chloe Reed, go to hell!"
A piercing voice cut through the air, and in the next moment, the person rushing over tackled Chloe Reed to the ground.
Chloe Reed’s eyes widened in terror. She saw that her attacker was Sunny Reed, who pulled a packet of powder from her clothes and threw it directly at Chloe’s face!
Just then, Walker Grant charged over and kicked Sunny Reed away. But the packet was already open, and a gust of wind blew the powder onto them!
"Don’t breathe!"
Walker Grant dove down, pressing Chloe Reed to the ground and covering her mouth and nose with his hand.
But the powder got into his eyes. A sharp, burning pain immediately flared up, and his vision began to blur!
"Walker Grant!"
Chloe Reed saw blood trickling from the corner of his eye and instinctively called his name. A moment later, she felt a searing pain in her own throat and began to cough violently.
"Die! HAHAHAHA, all of you, just die!"
"It’s all your fault! If it weren’t for you, I’d still be the beloved daughter of the Reed family, the young madam of the Grant family! I’d have a doting husband and a lovely son! My life was so perfect, and it was you, you two who ruined it! All of you, just die!"
