Chapter 610: Chapter 610: Lure the Snake Out of Its Hole?

Chloe Reed pulled her hand away. "You need to rest," she said softly. "Time is short. You need to get your strength back. We’re going to need you."

"Mm."

Hearing her words, Walker felt a sense of relief.

He closed his eyes and made the most of the time to rest.

The IV drip would take a while, and they could only hope that Vera Holloway’s people wouldn’t catch up to them in the meantime.

The small town was very quiet.

Chloe Reed went out to buy dinner. After a few quick bites, she sat in a chair under a large tree, watching the jungle as it was gradually enveloped by the night.

The small, black pistol was tucked behind her, its presence hard and cold against her back.

Daniel Hayes came to her side, his expression complex. "Miss Chloe, are you really going to do this?"

Chloe Reed turned to look at him. "I’m only asking you to do this one thing. Can you not do it?"

Daniel Hayes’s expression grew even more conflicted. "I can, but..."

"Then there are no buts." freёwebnoѵel.com

Chloe lowered her gaze slightly, a faint smile gracing her beautiful lips.

She stood up and let out a slow breath. "Don’t let them find me. After that, you should leave too."

After speaking, she glanced toward the clinic. Her bright eyes flickered for only a few seconds before she turned and headed into the jungle.

Daniel Hayes instinctively started to follow, but he remembered Chloe’s words and stopped in his tracks.

He sensed the bodyguards Walker Grant had assigned begin to move, all following Chloe’s retreating figure.

He closed his eyes for a moment, then took out his phone and dialed one of them.

"Stand down. I’ll follow her myself."

The bodyguard was obviously taken aback. "But Mr. Grant’s orders were to protect his wife at all times."

"This is part of his orders, too. It’s his plan to lure the snake out of its hole," Daniel Hayes lied, his face impassive.

The bodyguard knew about his relationship with Walker Grant, so he didn’t question it. "Alright, understood," he replied.

After hanging up, the man ordered his subordinates to stop following Chloe Reed. He then watched as Daniel Hayes followed in her footsteps.

As the sun set, darkness slowly swallowed the small town, and their figures gradually disappeared from sight.

Once the IV bag was empty, Walker Grant’s eyes flew open. He shot up, a sharp, constricting pain flaring in his chest.

The doctor, startled by his sudden movement, stumbled back a few steps. "Whoa, what do you think you’re doing?"

A dark look crossed Walker Grant’s face. "Where’s my wife?"

The doctor looked at him, bewildered. "She’s your wife, not mine. How should I know?"

Walker Grant’s expression turned even darker. He grabbed the doctor by the collar, his voice dangerously low. "She was here before I fell asleep. Now she’s gone. Where did she go?"

Terrified by his menacing aura, the doctor paled and stammered, "About... about half an hour ago, I think. She said she was hungry and went out to get something to eat."

Walker Grant shoved him away, scrambling out of bed and rushing outside.

A sense of unease washed over him.

The sky outside was dark, and there was no sign of Chloe Reed anywhere. He pulled out his phone and called the bodyguards to check in.

But the bodyguard sounded utterly shocked. "Mr. Grant, didn’t you order us to stand down? You told us to let Daniel Hayes follow your wife into the jungle alone to ’lure the snake from its hole’!"

Hearing this, Walker Grant’s expression instantly turned grim.

He gripped his phone so tightly his knuckles turned white, his gaze fixed on the dark jungle in the distance. Fury blazed in his eyes.
