Chapter 601: Chapter 601: Stop Acting
But, the worst-case scenario still happened.
Walker Grant started running a fever at three in the morning. He was delirious and in terrible shape.
His bodyguard noticed something was wrong and immediately called him. "Mr. Grant, you need to go to the hospital. Let me take you there right now."
Walker Grant’s handsome brows furrowed, and his voice was very hoarse. "That’s not necessary."
But the bodyguard was very worried. "But sir, if you keep pushing yourself like this, something will definitely go wrong."
Walker Grant’s tone hardened. "I said no, and I mean it. All of you, drop it."
The bodyguard: "...Yes."
「The next day.」
When Chloe Reed came out of her room, she had already composed herself. She was planning to mail the souvenirs she’d bought to Breyburn, but as soon as she stepped out, she ran into Walker Grant coming out of the room next door. ƒrēewebnovel.com
COUGH, COUGH.
The man’s handsome face was pale. He covered his mouth and coughed twice before looking at her. "Did you sleep well last night?"
Chloe Reed’s delicate brows knitted together as she stared at his pale face. "What’s wrong with you?"
Walker Grant’s dark eyes lit up, and his thin lips curled. "Are you worried about me? I feel awful. I think I have a fever. Want to feel my forehead?"
As he spoke, he moved closer, reaching for her hand.
But Chloe Reed dodged him and said coldly, "You brought this on yourself. What’s it to me?"
With that, she turned and walked away.
Walker Grant’s face grew even paler, and a self-mocking smile touched his lips. "But... I really feel awful, Chloe. I’m not lying."
Without looking back, Chloe Reed said, "You don’t have to test me. I don’t feel anything anymore." freeωebnovēl.c૦m
Walker Grant: "..."
He started coughing again, this time as if he were about to cough up a lung.
Listening to his relentless coughing, Chloe Reed felt her heart clench. The agonizing feeling only made her expression colder.
She went to the front desk, handed over the items she wanted to mail, wrote down the address, and left the guesthouse.
She decided to go see the desert. Arriving at the entrance to the park, she bought a ticket and followed the signs inside.
Standing at the edge of the desert, gazing at the earthy-yellow world and the endless dunes before her, Chloe Reed suddenly felt her spirits lift.
She followed the other tourists deeper into the desert, the scarf wrapped around her head fluttering in the wind.
"Hey, are you traveling alone?" A girl in sunglasses next to her struck up a conversation.
Chloe Reed shook her head. "I came with my family."
The girl nodded and glanced around. "Aren’t your family with you?"
Chloe Reed glanced at her and said, "They’re just behind me. They’ll catch up soon."
The girl nodded again. "Oh, that’s nice. I came alone. I didn’t expect it to be so windy out here. How far are you planning to walk?"
Chloe Reed stopped. "I’m not looking to team up with anyone. My family is right behind me."
She remained on guard. Glancing over her shoulder, she didn’t see Walker Grant, but she did spot the familiar silhouette of his bodyguard. Her tense brow relaxed a little.
The girl was taken aback, then she gave an awkward laugh. "Oh, I didn’t mean anything by it. It’s just boring walking alone, so I thought I’d chat. Since you don’t want to team up, I won’t bother you. Sorry about that."
With that, the girl walked on ahead.
Chloe Reed watched her retreating figure for a long moment. Instead of continuing, she sat down on a small dune. She watched the people ahead press onward, then looked out at the distant horizon, suddenly losing all desire to walk any further.
