Chapter 8: Chapter 8: PAW Patrol Saves the Day

WOOF WOOF WOOF WOOF! A single bark rang out, quickly followed by a chorus from more and more dogs.

Dogs of all shapes and sizes darted out from every direction, surrounding the van.

Without a moment’s hesitation, they began ferociously tearing the van apart.

A few chubby puppies even ran to the front of the van and barked at the human traffickers.

The human trafficker who was smoking was stunned by the sight. After a few seconds, he snapped out of it and viciously kicked at a small dog that was barking wildly at him. "Fuck! I’ll kill you! I’ll make you into stew!"

"Momma! Second Uncle, Third Uncle, Fourth Uncle, Cousin, help us!!" the puppies yelped in their high-pitched voices.

Their tails wagged wildly, showing not the slightest bit of fear.

"Despicable two-legged traffickers! It’s bad enough you catch your own kind, but now you want to kick our pups?! Brothers, bite them!" A large black dog nearby latched its teeth onto the trafficker’s leg.

The puppies seized the opportunity to bite at the trafficker’s pant legs, busying themselves ineffectually.

In no time, the dogs had torn the traffickers’ van to pieces.

The traffickers were also surrounded and bitten several times by the dogs, enraging them.

One of the traffickers pulled a knife from his pocket and lunged at a dog’s neck.

Just then, a flock of sparrows swooped in, scratching, biting, and pooping on them.

The traffickers were thrown into chaos and quickly subdued by the swarm of animals.

Several police cars pulled up. The doors flew open, and a group of officers quickly surrounded the scene.

"Freeze! Put your hands... up??" The officers were stunned by the scene before them.

Three human traffickers were sprawled on the ground. On each of them stood several dogs, their teeth clamped around the men’s arms.

Several sparrows hovered above their heads.

When the traffickers saw the police, it was the first time they’d ever found officers of the law to be such a dazzling, reassuring sight.

"Officers, we confess! Just take us away, please!!" one of the traffickers wailed, unable to take it anymore. His face was covered in bird droppings, and he burst into tears.

The other two, while slightly more composed, were just as desperate to be taken away by the police.

"Officer, please, just kill these vicious dogs!"

The officers exchanged glances, for the first time finding it hard to tell who the actual criminals were...

"Chief? What is...?" a junior officer asked, feeling as if he were still dreaming.

All the dogs had raised their front paws, as if they were actually complying with the "put your hands up" command from earlier.

"Officers!" Tang Yuexuan and the others, having recovered from their initial shock, ran over as soon as they saw the police.

An older officer looked at them warily. "Are you the ones who called this in?"

"We’re filming a show here. The viewers online must have called it in," Zhong Siqi said. Seeing the wrecked van up close, he couldn’t help but swallow hard.

’That must hurt like hell if they bit a person.’

The officers lowered their guard, but not completely. "You all step back. These dogs could be dangerous."

Tang Yueying and Zhong Mingrui watched the dogs with curiosity. Gu Xulin, being afraid of animals, didn’t come any closer.

He stood at a distance, keeping a close eye on Gu Zhao, worried she would stir up trouble.

"They won’t! They only attack bad guys who steal babies." Gu Zhao slipped past them and ran toward the dogs.

"Come back! It’s dangerous!" An officer instinctively ran after her and grabbed her by the arm.

"WOOF WOOF WOOF!" The dogs, which had been docile just a moment ago, instantly became aggressive again, their eyes fixed on the officer holding Gu Zhao’s arm.

The other officers raised their guns as well.

"It’s a misunderstanding! A misunderstanding!" Gu Zhao quickly shouted. "They’re good people, and you’re good doggies."

She pointed at the people and then at the dogs, trying to placate both sides.

At Gu Zhao’s words, the dogs obediently lay down again. The officers began to question their reality.

Gu Zhao wriggled free from the officer, who was still questioning reality, and ran over to the dogs.

All the dogs, except for those pinning down the traffickers, gathered around Gu Zhao.

A few little puppies rubbed eagerly against her legs.

They got so into it that one of them tumbled over, only to scramble back up and continue rubbing against her.

"Human, I told you I’d take care of it! What do you think?" a large dog she recognized pushed its way to the front of the pack.

"Thank you!" Gu Zhao said, patting the dog’s furry head.

Zhong Mingrui ran over, his eyes filled with longing.

He didn’t say a word, just stared at the dogs with sparkling eyes.

One of the dogs walked up to him and lowered its head, offering it to be petted.

Tang Yueying was also full of longing; she wanted to pet them too.

Gu Zhao noticed and waved them over to pet the dogs.

With Gu Zhao’s approval, Tang Yueying immediately ran over to pet the dogs. Tang Yuexuan and Zhong Siqi couldn’t resist joining the "dog-petting brigade" either.

Seeing that the dogs really weren’t aggressive, the officers finally relaxed, holstered their guns, and approached the traffickers.

But when they got to the traffickers, they ran into a problem: the dogs wouldn’t budge.

The officers stared at the dogs, and the dogs stared back.

Silence.

Gu Zhao: "They caught the people-snatchers!"

The dogs immediately got up, yielding the traffickers to the police while giving the officers a look full of disdain.

’Staring at us for so long and not saying a word!’

They gave the police a final eye-roll before running off to get more pets.

One officer asked his colleague in disbelief, "Did they just roll their eyes at us? Do they look down on us?!"

Another officer replied, "I think... they did."

The officers: ’...When did the world suddenly become a fantasy novel?’

From a distance, Gu Xulin watched them, pacing anxiously. ’What is going on?!’

’What is wrong with Zhong Siqi and the others! How could they just let Gu Zhao run over to the dogs!’

’Why are they getting close to the dogs too!’

Gu Xulin bit his lip, steeled himself, and walked over.

"Gu Zhao!" He could feel his legs trembling.

Seeing him approach, Gu Zhao reluctantly went to his side, making sure to tell the dogs not to get near him.

They were asked to come to the police station to give a statement. Meanwhile, the viewers online were going wild.

[Someone please tell me I’m dreaming, this has to be fake fake fake fake fake fake fake fake! Holy crap, the Paw Patrol is real!]

[It’s the real-life Paw Patrol! So awesome! This is getting me so hyped! I want to become a dog and join the Paw Patrol!]

[Currently beating the crap out of my dog and asking it why it hasn’t joined the Paw Patrol.]

[@ a few seconds ago, did it fess up?]

[It peed itself.]

[Did anyone else notice the lead dog looks like the one Gu Zhao was talking to earlier!!! Can Gu Zhao control dogs?!]

[I wanna pet them too I wanna pet them pet pet pet pet pet pet pet pet!]

[Gu Xulin, you’re so whipped! You’re scared of animals but you still ran over to look after Gu Zhao!]

In no time at all, the top trending topic became:

#PawPatrolSavesTheDay!

#GuZhaoDogPackCatchesTraffickers

Gu Zhao, having just left the police station, had no idea she’d gone viral. She was busy demanding payment for the dogs and was only satisfied when the officers promised to reward them with dog food.

A few kind-hearted officers even offered to drive them to their destination!!

There was a reason for this, of course. Gu Zhao had asked them if it was illegal to ride a dog on the road.

The officers didn’t dare let them go on their own. What if there was an accident involving dog-riding?

「Wuyin Ridge.」

Tang Yuexuan watched the police car drive away, a huge smile on her face.

’This is the benefit of being on the right team!!’

When Director Guo saw them arrive, he wasn’t very happy. He wanted his guests to look miserable and pathetic! And yet, here they were, perfectly relaxed!!

However, when he looked at the other group on the livestream feed, he smiled again.

’At least someone is cooperating!’

Gu Xulin and the others were sitting on a rock, holding peaches and staring into space.

Gu Zhao had just spoken a few words to a curious roe deer that had come to peek at them from the edge of the forest.

A moment later, the deer had brought them a huge pile of wild peaches.

’This world is so surreal...’

’Oh well. Might as well eat.’
