Chapter 59: Chapter 59: Bots Are Great
Gu Xulin’s collapse gave Gu Zhao a huge fright.
"Brother! Are you trying to die?!" Gu Zhao scrambled to pinch the pressure point under his nose.
As her fingers pressed down, she noticed something red on her hand.
"Huh, how did the ketchup from last night get all over my hand?"
Gu Zhao couldn’t sleep last night, so she’d made herself a late-night snack: bread with ketchup.
But she got too sleepy while eating and just fell asleep.
Gu Xulin was jolted awake by the pain. The first thing he saw upon opening his eyes was Gu Zhao grinning at him.
’I really want to faint again.’
But Gu Zhao anticipated his move and didn’t stop pinching the spot under his nose.
"You’re trying to murder your own brother!" Gu Xulin slapped her hand away.
’Damn it, how can her small hands be so strong?!’
"Pfft, hahaha..." A staff member froze for a second before suddenly bursting into laughter while staring at Gu Xulin.
Gu Xulin looked at them, bewildered.
Gu Zhao saw the red smudge left under Gu Xulin’s nose. She fell silent and stared at the ceiling.
[Brother Lin instantly turned into a little clown hahahaha.]
[Anyone remember they were the ones trying to prank Gu Zhao?]
[I knew it! My Monkey King wouldn’t be scared!]
The two of them were delayed by the whole ordeal. By the time they got in the crew’s van and reached the meeting point, all the other guests were already there.
The terminal of XX Airport.
Director Guo was standing in the middle of the group. The moment he saw Gu Zhao, a smile spread across his face. "Welcome!"
"You’ve got a really shifty smile." Gu Zhao felt like he was definitely up to something.
Director Guo’s smile froze on his face.
"You have no manners." A little girl, about seven or eight years old, stood beside a woman with her arms crossed.
She looked at Gu Zhao with undisguised contempt. "Don’t you know you’re late? We’ve been waiting for you for a long time. And the moment you get here, you talk to Uncle Director like that. Don’t you realize how classless that is?"
[Who’s this little girl? The director didn’t even say anything, and she’s already getting offended. Is she a new guest?]
[Okay, being late isn’t right, but this kid’s tone is so aggressive. Are her parents spoiling her rotten?]
Gu Zhao: ???
Her two little followers couldn’t take it anymore. They had planned on making a more reserved entrance, but they couldn’t stand by while someone dared to talk back to their Big King right in front of them!
’What was the difference between this and attacking their meal ticket!’
"’You’re the one with no class! Our Big King wasn’t even talking to you! And we didn’t make you wait! The plane wasn’t going to take off any sooner whether our Big King was here or not, so what right do you have to say she’s late?!" Song Yi planted his hands on his hips, glaring at the girl.
"’Was I talking to you? You fatso!" the little girl sneered, her eyes filled with disdain.
Song Yi’s eyes instantly welled up. His voice trembled on the verge of tears, but he forced himself not to cry. "So what if I’m fat?! It’s not like I ate your food! You... you’re the one with no class!"
Seeing his friend get bullied, Zhong Mingrui got furious too. He stepped in front of Song Yi and stared at her indignantly. "How could you say that?! Apologize to Song Yi! If you don’t, I’ll have my Big King deliver your judgment!"
The little girl’s face was a mask of contempt. "Morons."
[!!! When she called out Gu Zhao for having no class, I thought she was just one of those strict, mature kids. But it turns out... she’s the one who’s a freaking classless brat!]
[This little girl has such a foul mouth. Is it really okay for a seven-year-old to talk like that...?]
[Isn’t that a Movie Queen next to her? Please don’t tell me that’s her daughter!! Aaaah, nooo, this kid is seriously too much.]
Gu Zhao frowned. "You must really love fish, seeing how good you are at picking bones. You’ve got the same energy as one of those gossiping aunties at the market. Isn’t that right, little Miss Auntie?"
’If this weren’t the wrong place for it, I’d love to teach her a thing or two about how to behave.’
The little girl glared at Gu Zhao. "You’re the old hag!"
Just then, the woman beside her smiled and ruffled the little girl’s hair. "Alright, now. No need for kids to get so worked up. Why don’t you apologize to each other so you can all be friends?"
The little girl just huffed.
Zhong Mingrui and Song Yi huffed right back before hiding behind Gu Zhao.
Director Guo shot the woman and her daughter a strange look before plastering on a smile to address the group.
"For this episode, our challenge will take place on the Loni Ni Grassland! Are you excited?! Are you thrilled?!"
"As I’m sure you’ve all noticed, the Tang Family sisters couldn’t make it this time. But the show must go on, so let me introduce our new guests."
"This is our beloved Movie Queen, Zhou Lan, and her daughter, Song Jinan."
A faint smile played on Zhou Lan’s lips as she greeted everyone. "Hello, everyone. I’m Zhou Lan. I hope I won’t hold you all back in the coming days! Let’s do our best together."
Song Jinan reluctantly glanced at the group. "Hi, everyone. I hope we can all get along and not form little cliques."
As she spoke, she deliberately shot a look at Zhong Mingrui and his friends.
She might as well have called them out by name.
[AHHHH MY QUEEN! MY QUEEN!]
[She’s in such amazing shape! Her skin is literally glowing on camera. I’d do anything for you, sis!]
[No wonder she’s so bold. Turns out she’s the Movie Queen’s little princess. She definitely gets that attitude from her mom.]
"That’s probably going to be difficult," Yu Zimo remarked, standing off to the side with her arms crossed.
Ye Zuiyi simply offered a faint smile.
Director Guo cleared his throat. "We still have a little while before our flight takes off. Since we’re just waiting around, let’s all play a game."
"This game, you see, will determine what items you can bring with you for the next few days~"
Director Guo smiled mysteriously. "Everyone, look behind you!"
It was a large prize wheel. The spaces on it were illustrated with various items, like a dagger, a lighter, and so on.
Director Guo announced, "The three items each team can bring this time will be decided by pure luck!"
"Will all the junior partners please step forward! You’ll play rock-paper-scissors, and the winner gets the first spin."
Song Jinan held her head high. "All of these things are so lame."
Yu Zimo was equally disdainful. "If you’re short on funds, my Yu Family can invest."
A strained smile remained on Director Guo’s face.
’He was cursing up a storm internally. ’So what if you’re rich! My main sponsor right now is the Gu Family!’’
’And the Ye Family foolishly threw money at me just to pick a location.’
’It’s not like I’m short on cash!’
Still, the game began.
Ye Zuiyi won the first round.
Ye Zuiyi was all smiles. "Thank you all for letting me win."
Yu Zimo’s face suddenly flushed as she looked at her. "That was just your good luck. You don’t need to thank anyone."
Gu Zhao watched them, a look of utter disgust on her face.
’Is this puppy love? Ugh, kids these days. They should be "lying flat," not falling in love.’
’Of course, the female lead would have a simp fawning over her even at this age.’
’Not like me. I’ve got a brother holding me back every single day, plus a supposedly traitorous system that only gives me garbage skills.’
Putting her protagonist’s halo to good use, Ye Zuiyi spun the wheel, and the pointer landed on the dagger.
Ye Zexi’s eyes were full of adoration as he looked at Ye Zuiyi.
Gu Zhao won the next round.
She rubbed her hands together and pointed threateningly at the wheel. "If you don’t land on what I want, I’m going to burn you to a crisp!"
Song Jinan sneered. "Idiot."
Gu Zhao: "Back at you."
"You have no class!"
Gu Zhao: "Back at you."
’Time to debut my new persona: the "unflappable as a chrysanthemum" bot.’
’Who ever said being a bot was a bad thing? This is great.’
Song Jinan didn’t want to engage with this "bot" anymore, so she turned away in a huff.
Gu Zhao spun the wheel. It went around once, began to slow, and finally stopped on a windproof lighter.
"We can have a barbecue!" Song Zhe cried out happily.
Everyone else’s eyes immediately shot toward him.
Song Zhe awkwardly covered his mouth and chuckled. He couldn’t help it; his luck had been terrible during the days without Gu Zhao.
He’d had such bad luck that even drinking cold water would get stuck in his teeth. His takeout order got stolen, and when he tried to cook for himself, he nearly blew up the kitchen. For three straight days, he’d been stuck eating nothing but bread and instant noodles!
He hadn’t had any meat in three days!
